### 3/5 — It’s alright

*2024-05-21, version 8.5.4*

Fine app for mental health with simplicity. However, don’t like the payment subscription plans.

### 4/5 — Great idea for those close to or in a crisis

*2024-05-20*

The circle feature is a phenomenal for accomplishing accountability. The feature to let your circle know if you miss a check in is amazing for anyone experiencing a mental episode but who lives alone or physically far from loved ones. The one touch check in is great as well for welfare checks for addicts for example. The journaling feature could have helpful prompts for those new or who struggle with writing their problems. Great idea for an app and could be a great service to the community

### 3/5 — Good idea

*2024-05-18*

The idea for the app is a good one. I can see how having a support circle and tracking each other’s moods could improve mental health. However, there are a few problems. One, the app can be difficult to navigate. Second, there aren’t that many features yet. Third, many features the app does have are locked behind a paid subscription model that is in my opinion overpriced. Overall a good idea that has room for improvements to really make it work.

### 4/5 — I like the concept

*2024-05-18, version 8.5.4*

But I couldn’t navigate to the support circles which I think defeats the purpose. I do like the timer and being able to set alerts to check in with my own mental health because usually I’m doing better than I think and it’s important to see and reflect on that.

### 4/5 — Good app, would like to see a bit more to it.

*2024-05-18*

I like the app. I like the idea of it. I like how you can check in at certain times of the day to see how you are feeling and that you can create like a supportive group by adding your family and friends. I would like to see an education section added, so that you can learn more about mental health and have tips for dealing with certain issues that may arise for the user.

### 3/5 — Cool app but

*2024-05-17, version 8.5.4*

A useful app for mental health awareness, but could be better. It would be cool to offer communities for different individuals struggling with varying issues. It’s nice to offer contact with people you already know, but some people don’t want to share their struggles with their closest friends.

### 3/5 — Cool idea! Needs some work

*2024-05-17*

I think that this app has very good intentions in that it is striving to make mental health a topic to share with those close in your life. This app makes it easy to touch in with close ones and check on how they are feeling and vice versa with you. I think that I would recommend an option of words to describe how they are feeling along with the scale already implemented. A list including words like "anxious, stressed, tired, excited, hopeful." I feel as though this would create topics and promote using the journal function as it would create more of a prompt for that section.

### 4/5 — Cool idea, can be expanded a bit

*2024-05-16, version 8.5.4*

Although the app is rather user friendly, I think there are a few things that could be added. I think a dark mode would be nice. A pie chart/graph of some sort showing percentages of moods would be interesting. I also think Quick Check In should have a default emotion you could assign it.

### 4/5 — Very innovative!

*2024-05-16*

I like the app and it’s simplicity. It’s a good way to keep in check with your family, especially family
members that may worry you. The only thing I wish they had were some forums, or articles. You know, like some about moods or different mental health issues. It would give you something more to do or be interested in about the app and likely to use it more often.

### 4/5 — Solid but basic

*2024-05-16*

Decent app to be able to check in and monitor your daily mood. I like that you can manually check in multiple times a day or set a check in time. It’s simple and easy to use but I would like a few more features. Something to track activities to see how that correlates to mood would be cool. Suggestions for mood improvement would be great too.

### 3/5 — Needs more features

*2024-05-16*

The simplicity of this app is both it’s greatest strength and greatest downfall. I could easily get tired of “just checking in” daily. I like that friends and family can do it too, but why check in virtually on an app when a phone call or a FaceTime is actually way better for your mental health? I think it lacks features that would truly make it an app specializing in the mental health realm. Maybe articles by qualified individuals about various mental well-being topics. It would be nice to have a checklist of sorts, with emphasis on just completing tasks one at a time. Alerts to breathe, relax, walk outside, etc would be nice and could positively impact mental health. Also quotes based on your responses- so something encouraging when you’re happy and a sort of “I get it” when you e had just a bleh day.

### 4/5 — Good idea! Could definitely expand features!

*2024-05-15*

I think is a great idea especially in a world where people are more and more removed from each other. I couldn’t evaluate the emergency contact feature without paying to subscribe, so not sure about how that works but as more features are added that would be a good one to make part of the free subscription. I think if people are in a place where that feature is going to come in handy they may not be willing to pay to access it.
I think it would be cool if it could access your phones contacts, I for one don’t have very many peoples numbers memorized so I had to switch back and forth to add people.

### 4/5 — Helpful App

*2024-05-15, version 8.5.4*

A really important app that focuses on mental health and monitoring an individuals mood. This app offers a direct line to a persons family friends who are their to support them when their mood is down. Something that could be a good addition would be more motivational quotes and resources that are accessible.

### 4/5 — Good idea but could use UI improvements

*2024-05-15*

I am having trouble adding a review, but I think if it could be implemented better this could prove a vital tool in the pursuit of mental health! I wish there was an easier way to add people to my circle & that the signup process wasn’t so clunky (took me 5 tries just to get my phone to let me in!) but other than that I could see myself using it!

### 4/5 — Decent mental health app

*2024-05-14*

The best part about this app is its simplicity. It seems like a good resource, especially for people who might live alone and/or the elderly.

I like the idea of checking in and having your contacts know how your mental state is. It’s easy to choose what mood you’re in & you can add notes if you want to. The reminders for check-ins are useful.

I think it would be beneficial to have some mental health resources on the app such free meditation links or maybe some self-help articles.

### 4/5 — Just Checking In App Review

*2024-05-13, version 8.5.4*

I like the concept of being able to check in multiple times a day, documenting when and why your mood shifts, and partnering with trusted people when your mood. I just wish there was more engagement between the people you’re partnering with. Mood booster games or maybe a note to support the persons mood.

### 4/5 — Straightforward and easy to use

*2024-05-13, version 8.5.4*

The simple navigation makes it easy to use and track daily changes in mood.

### 4/5 — Idea is good, needs more features

*2024-05-13*

First of all, I think that apps like this are a good way to manage your mental health and a lot of people like myself can find that useful. I like that you can check in a few times a day and write down what’s going on at the moment. I also like how you can join support circles and also include your friends into it. With that being said, i think the app can also be improved by having better interface. The check in button should be bigger and more obvious to users so they can easily tell where to go to check in. I’d also love to see new features on this app like educational resources on mental health or small to-do lists that people can do to manage their mental health.

### 4/5 — Great app - could use some fine tuning

*2024-05-13, version 8.5.4*

Great app. Love the concept. I think the app could use some find tuning. It just seems a little outdated and I wish there was a simple way to see who is already on the app that you could connect with. Tried to add my friends and we had a bit of a challenge but nonetheless I will keep using this app!

### 4/5 — Good mental health tracker

*2024-05-13, version 8.5.4*

Pretty good app to use to track feelings and mental health. You can set reminders to make it a part of your daily habits. I had a bit of an issue adding emergency contacts as it said I could add 3 but then needed to subscribe and was a bit confusing on that part. But other than that pretty easy to use.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Freezes

*2025-11-07, version 9.1.22*

I installed this app and it started to take the tour, then froze where it shows how to check in. There’s no way out of it or to skip the tour to avoid the problem. Restarting goes back to take the tour and freezes at the same point again. So the app has a great idea, but I can’t use it.

### 1/5 — Keeps freezing

*2025-09-03, version 9.1.22*

Just downloaded and can’t get thru the instructions without it locking up

### 1/5 — Can’t even set up the app.

*2025-01-28, version 9.0.16*

App won’t let you scroll during set up, leaving you unable to get past the enable push notifications screen.

### 1/5 — Glitchiest app I’ve ever used.

*2024-11-09*

Great concept and so simple that I’m baffled how it can have so many problems.

Constantly have messages sent to say I haven’t checked in when I either (a) have checked in or (b) haven’t had the reminder I’ve set. Or conversely I get reminders I haven’t set when I’ve already checked in. Details randomly disappearing, unable to contact support team and no useful help section/instructions.

To top it off, having paid £30 for a years subscription (doesn’t expire til March), today the app has deleted all my details and is telling me I need to subscribe for £30 a *month*(!!!) to have SMSs sent to my emergency contacts if I don’t check in (so what I’ve already paid for…..)

If I could contact the company I’d be asking for a refund as it’s not fit for purpose.

### 1/5 — Trying to register

*2024-01-18*

Tried to register, but on the first screen where it asked for my phone number it pops the keyboard up over the field to fill in and the button to submit response. No matter where I clicked or swiped or rotated my phone I was not able to access to button to continue the process.
I am using an iPhone 12 with iOS 17.1.2.

### 1/5 — Lots of flaws

*2023-08-25*

It can be nice when it is working. There are frequent updates and with each update it gets worse.

**Developer response:** Hi Kiki, thanks for using Just Checking In. We apologize for any recent hiccups you may have experienced. We are pleased to announce that we've successfully squashed those pesky bugs. If you haven't already, please update the app, and we would greatly appreciate an updated review. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and our primary goal is to ensure that everyone can easily check in. Stay tuned for continuous improvements, and we appreciate your patience as we strive to provide the best experience. Please email us at Support@JustCheckingIn.co if you have any additional concerns.

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2023-02-09, version 8.3.0*

It was good at first. They updated it and now it does not work. I can not see when my contact is checking in. My contact or circle does not see me either. They added back the comments section which is nice but to bad your circle can’t see when you check in.

### 1/5 — Stops working

*2022-04-10, version 6.0*

Every time I check in the app freezes up and then my parents end up calling me worried about me due to not checking in

**Developer response:** Hi Mrs Marley, just checking in. It took us a while but we have now fully updated the app to meet our users needs. Please update your app to the latest version, you will be pleased with the many upgrades we made. We hope you reconsider your rating after testing. Also, email us anytime at admin@justcheckingin.co

### 1/5 — Does Not Work

*2021-12-01, version 5.9*

The app does not notify your selected contact when you check in. Only if you SOS or don’t check in. I wanted an app that would let my contact know that I am ok today. A waste of money (yes you do have to pay to use it).

**Developer response:** Ken, we noticed the same error and have updated the app to do as promised. It is our intention to keep loved ones connected. The app is Free and will notify your contacts when you check in. The premium feature is to receive sms alerts and SOS alerts. Please Update your existing app and let us know if it is now, as you expected. Also email us at Admin@JustCheckingIn.co for your refund. The Free version does all that you need. Oh! We added an additional feature that allows you to input a personal message when you check in. We look forward to hearing your feedback and updated review.

### 2/5 — Did not work

*2025-10-26*

I subscribed to the app so I could have friends and family get notifications without downloading the app. I was diligent about checking in daily, but somewhere along the line I stopped getting reminders and missed a couple of days. No one got the text alert. I got back on the habit of checking but again daily reminders kinda stopped and I missed a few days this time, again no one got their alert. I’m very upset to have spent money on the app thinking it was helping and it didn’t work.

**Developer response:** We’re truly sorry for this experience. This happened on an older build of Just Checking In, and the reminder and alert issues you described should not have happened.

We’ve since rebuilt and relaunched the app with major improvements to reminders, check-ins, notifications, and support-circle alerts. The new version is live now and working much better.

Please contact us at [support@justcheckingin.co] with the email used for your account so we can review your subscription and help make this right.

*2024-05-13, version 8.5.4*

I enjoyed checking out this app. I plan on showing my therapist the app to see how it could be helpful. I like that it keeps a history of your moods over the days. It will be really cool to check back in a year and see how my mood fluctuates. Hopefully I can convince my friends and family to use it.

### 5/5 — Good app for a support circle

*2024-05-13*

This app is very helpful at creating a support circle for people struggling with mental illness. The app is clean and straightforward. I wish I knew about this app sooner as it would have been helpful during past crises. It’s also simple. I think this could be useful for patient and provider relationships. I will be letting my therapist know about this app! As a plus, the branding looks professional. I like the home screen clock layout.

### 5/5 — Check ins

*2024-05-12, version 8.5.4*

I did really enjoy the app. I think the check ins is a great way to buildings positive mental habits. Also it’s cool to be able to revisit your thoughts and track the data. I do wonder if I would be one to build social circles though. Not looking to have strangers in my group and asking friends to join might be a stretch for me.
