### 2/5 — It’s a book, but it could be a lot better

*2019-12-18*

In the 1990s, I had a computer program version of this book that had animated interactions. Over 20 years ago. It’s pretty sad that this version for iPad is about as minimally interactive as it gets. I was expecting more, I wouldn’t have bought it so quickly if I’d known it wasn’t at least as good as that old version.

Don’t buy it.

### 3/5 — Great Educational Application, Bad Bug

*2019-10-30*

Ever since upgrading to a new iPhone without a home button, there’s no easy way to exit the app. In fact, it will trap you in unless you restart your phone. The only reason I chose to write this review was it was a reason to leave the screen without having the hassle of restarting my phone 🤣 once they catch up with technology again, it will get 5 stars.

### 4/5 — Wonderful book Just Grandma and Me

*2018-01-19, version 2.7.3*

The price for the book is okay. However, once exposed to the original and how fabulous the interactive component was, it is disappointing that with IT such as it is, it is not available. I would have easily paid $14.99 + for it, and so would many others! You would see generations purchasing this! Now, if we can just encourage Apple to quit with their incessant upgrades!!!

### 3/5 — Meh

*2017-05-01, version 2.5*

I agree with the other reviewers in that this version pales in comparison to the one we used to run on our Mac. There are some nice reading aids, but it is not nearly as interactive as the original.

### 2/5 — Grandma and Me

*2015-12-02*

Bought this based on a cd bought back in the 1980s which was fully interactive. By pressing on the objects they all did some action. However this version just reads the book and tapping on an object only
name appears in writing, not much to keep non readers interested.

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2013-02-22, version 2.1*

I love the broderbund interactive Living Books with Little Critter and was so excited to see them offer as an iPad app. NOPE! These are simply an ebook that will read you the story. No interaction what so ever.

### 2/5 — A nice start but…

*2012-10-11*

I found an article which mentioned that the original Brøderbund titles had been re-imagined for various mobile devices including the iPad and had to try this one out. Spent ages with my granddaughters playing with those books on what was then sate of the art Apple kit (remember OS 9?). Sadly this is not the same product at all. Not the same voice, similar art, and nowhere near the rich interactive experience of the originals.

It's rumoured that these books will also be coming to the Mac OS proper, I hope these implementations recapture the depth of the originals, each page was loaded with "secret" surprises if you touched them. For instance, the beach scene, touching the radio rewarded you with tuning sounds, crackle and a reporter giving you the weather report for little critters beach. Those versions of the Mercer Mayer books were a triumph, I'de never seen anything like them before or after.

For the price I guess this offering is fair value, and all of the current target audience will never have seen, or enjoyed the riches in the original Brøderbund versions.

### 1/5 — Disappointing!

*2012-08-01, version 1.09*

I too was so excited to see this app that I didn't read the reviews. I loved the computer version and assumed, wrongly, that it was similar. Calling it an interactive book is stretching it - it reads to you and that is it. Back to searching for a truly interactive book.

### 1/5 — Disappointed!!!!!!!!

*2012-07-19*

I was so excited to find Grandma and Me in the apps store because I used the computer version first with my children and then with my grand kids. I thought it would be fun on the IPad, so I downloaded it. I can't tell you how disappointed I was with this program! What happened to all the animation! Why couldn't you just convert the original? You already had the program. I didn't mind paying money for this app because I thought it was the same story base! I am going to delete it even though I paid for it. I wish you could find a way to bring back the original. This version is extremely lame!

### 1/5 — Sadly poor

*2012-07-03*

Poor low quality scans of the original. Story and voice still evocative, but a very thin joyless version of the original triumph. Please give us the brilliant, original version in full. Some people would pay good money for it :)

### 1/5 — Kein Vergleich zum Original

*2012-06-02*

Sehr schade :-(

### 1/5 — Lazy Remake of the Original

*2012-06-01*

The original PC story/game was a classic for a reason. The developers left out the interactive fun of finding the little objects in the scene and watching their animations and sound effects. Instead, all we get is a spider and grasshopper. Even the VoiceOver of Little Critter is different and lacks the endearing quality of the original. I was really disappointed. My two-year-old wasn't thrilled either. Come on guys...

### 4/5 — Good but not great

*2012-05-15*

If you remember the original version of the online for Mac/PC book with it's quirky interactive elements that kept small minds entertained for hours then you will be slightly disappointed in this version as I was.
There are still areas to click but they only display the written word of the items and there does not appear to be any animation at all.

Still a nice story and good support for learning to read.

### 1/5 — Enttäuschend im Vergleich mit dem Original

*2012-05-13*

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2012-05-05*

As a talking book it's fine but I remembered the original Broderbund software from when my kids were little and this is just a pale shadow of that.
As the is no opportunity for interaction you would be better just watching some of the movies of the original on you tube.

### 2/5 — Just grandma and me

*2012-03-26*

I love this book for my grandkids. However, 9 years ago I purchased a DOS cd version and it was the best!!! The grandkids who were toddlers at the tome loved all the whistles and bells of that program. They could click on numerous parts of each page and some action would take place. We have over the years been disappointed that this was not updated for newer computers. AND I continue to be disappointed that this app does almost nothing compared to the old DOS version. My younger grandkids are being cheated. Please come out with that very fun version for iPads. SOON.. Thank you,

### 1/5 — If you had the original DOS version...

*2018-04-20*

This is not like that at all. The voice is different and there is zero animation. No interaction at, save for teaching vocabulary. Very sad and disappointed.

### 1/5 — Not like old version

*2017-09-02*

Doesn't have the sound effects like on the computer version from the 90s. Can't click on things in the book and doesn't make sounds. I wish I could get my money back.

### 1/5 — Better than this App!

*2014-12-24, version 2.5*

If you are disappointed in this App because it is not like the original computer version you should check out all the Wanderful interactive storybooks! These are the original Living Books brought back for the iPad. You will love them!!

### 1/5 — Pathetic

*2014-10-23*

If you at all remember the original interactive CD you will want to throw this sad small brown stain of a book into the sea.

ALL the fun of the original has been stripped out in a pathetic on selling / buyout of the original material that has resulted in this very flimsy diluted & dumbed down version.

Why oh why the only other reviewer gave this 4 stars is beyond both grandma and me.

### 1/5 — ガッカリ

*2014-05-28*

あちこち、クリックして、仕掛けアニメが動き出す、あのリビングブックではありません。ただの電子絵本でした。がっかりしました。

### 1/5 — Just Grandma And MeI

*2014-02-25*

I do not like this version of Just Grandma And Me at all!!! We bought the computer version many years ago for a child that was like a grandchild to us. We now have our own grandchildren and have been using the computer version with our granddaughter. I thought it would be nice to sit on the couch with her and let her touch the screen on my ipad and she could make the birds sing or the cow moo as many times as she wanted to!!! But not with this version! I'm not even going to let her know that I have it on my ipad! It's just like a story book.....all still pictures.....you can't interact with the story at all! I'm very much disappointed and would not have made the purchase if I had know! I don't guess we can get a refund????

### 1/5 — Just Grandma and me

*2014-01-13*

Was very disappointed in this app. Having owned the original interactive version, and having watched my daughter enjoy it for so many years on the computer (finally wore it out) could not believe the "pale version" of the original that this app presents.

Although the original pictures and artwork remain, this version is nothing more than flipping through a series of still pictures in a book. None of the charm or delight of being able to touch the screen and play interactively with various creatures in the story now remains. The creativity that went into the orginal was just amazing, and was what made it such a delight and so appealing to kids.

This version has been gutted to nothing more than a series of still pictures. What a shame. The story is not even well read by the child narrator. Would not have bought it if I had sampled it first.

Hope they decide to fix this. This has been a classic and much loved computer story in our family for so many years.

Developers, please fix this so it can be a winner again and charm a new generation!

### 1/5 — Very Disappointed

*2013-04-29, version 2.1*

I wish I had read the review before I bought this. I too thought it was the interactive version and it is not. I felt that I was misled.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2012-12-18, version 1.09*

I was hoping for an equivalent of the original PC game which was a classic. A key element that made the original a classic was the animations/interaction and the endearing voice of critter. This app does not have them. I would happily pay more to see a full version with the animations.

### 1/5 — Don't waste your money,Pale imitation of the original CD version

*2012-10-25*

All of the great animation in the original version have been stripped out and replaced with just the word for the item .
Turns it into a dull lifeless version.

### 5/5 — Entertaining for a read along

*2012-11-20, version 1.09*

My daughter has enjoyed it, she likes stories being read to her so its fun for her, not to interactive but ok

### 5/5 — Niedlich, einfach schön

*2012-11-18*

Es kam 1994 schon als Living Books heraus und ich freue mich, dass es in den App-Store geschafft hat. Super und weiter so.

### 5/5 — Very good

*2012-01-20*

### 5/5 — Just me and my mom

*2011-12-03*

Excellent story rendered well to the computer age. Great value for money!

### 5/5 — Didn't miss what we never knew

*2011-04-19*

My granddaughter asks for the Little Critter books over and over. The old PC versions sound magical but we never saw them so we are happy with these. :-)

### 5/5 — Reviews are too harsh. Best I've found in the iPad series.

*2011-03-21, version 1.08.1*

This may not stack well to the PC versions of yesteryear, but my 3 yr Son can't get enough of the Dr. Seuss and Little Critter books. In fact he prefers the Little Critter books, because he love to search for the spiders, mice and grasshoppers thru out the pages.

### 5/5 — Great lLittle Story!

*2011-02-22, version 1.08.1*

I haven't experienced the original version that was mentioned in previous reviews, but my granddaughter and I both LOVED this one! The narrator is a child, it isn't too long and the illustrations are adorable (so I'll buy a couple more). I can even relax while the automatic story tells itself...a mini-vacation for grandma!

### 5/5 — Love these books... and my two year old does too! LOL

*2010-12-12*

I love these little critter books. My two year old loves them too. These OceanHouse books are among the best for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch apps for kids out there!
