### 4/5 — A very nice app

*2016-02-16*

It does everything that it promises and has some really cool features. The only complaint that I have is that the ui could use some updating.

### 3/5 — Good features; sound is not for me

*2012-05-06*

You can choose all twelve keys as well as put a couple intervals on to the root note, and fine tune the pitch up or down 50 cents. That being said, I do not like the sound one bit. Check out the demo on the website and make sure you can deal with the tone cos it is odd to play along with in my opinion.

### 4/5 — Great app for intonation exercises

*2011-12-22*

Love the app but would be better if the drone continued to play when you turned the screen off. But other than that, no complaints!

### 4/5 — Solid

*2011-06-08*

Good app-the drones are incredibly useful when working on tuning, and the complex waveforms (not just straight sine waves) are a big plus. Only four stars because the design isn't the best (the on/off button is too big, the note buttons are too small, and landscape orientation would be nice) and it would be nice to have multiple octaves. To the person asking for e flat-play d sharp, close your eyes, and you'll hear e flat :-)

### 3/5 — Missing notes

*2011-03-08*

This app really needs e flat and a flat!

### 4/5 — Usefull

*2010-11-01*

Very usefull and handy to practice tuning your pipes

### 3/5 — Cool, but

*2010-06-17*

A few more options wouldn't hurt

### 3/5 — Good...but...

*2010-01-08*

Some modulation ability would be nice. Perhaps some reverb? Good tone, though :-)

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No sound…

*2022-03-02*

Doesn’t even play any sound!

### 1/5 — No sound

*2021-03-06*

Used to work now no sound

### 1/5 — Nice idea but useless

*2018-01-02*

The PWM generating the tones creates horrible sidebands , at least on my iPhone 7. Especially given that pitch is also a product of overtones , and that the user can choose to add intervals - and not consonant with the overtones generated in the fundamental - those overtones make this useless.
Ewww!

### 1/5 — Not good

*2017-06-07*

The pitch is way too low. Maybe if you're playing tuba it would be useful. No way to adjust the octave. Save your 99 cents for something else.

**Developer response:** Tryeiyrdgjii, the app description clearly says that it's based on Uilleann bagpipes drones, which it absolute matches the pitch of.

### 1/5 — Not the money worth!

*2016-04-24*

It Sounds like alien tones.

### 1/5 — Very abrasive tone

*2015-07-28*

Can't imagine practicing to this; one of the worst sounds I've ever heard.

### 1/5 — Not worth paying for

*2011-08-27*

Not at all what I expected. Noise sounds computer generated and is impossible to tune to. Don't waste your money.

### 1/5 — Will it work 4 highland bagpipes

*2011-04-25*

??

### 2/5 — Needs support for internal speaker

*2012-01-28*

Mostly fine, but drones do not sound through the iPhone's speaker. It can only be used with an external sound device such as headphones or speakers. This is an issue for me as I prefer to play without wearing headphones and portability is affected by needing an external speaker.

### 3/5 — It speaks nothing at all

*2020-07-17*

on the iOS 13.5.1 iPhone.
If it becomes able to speak something as great drones I will tap five stars!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2023-11-01*

This is an excellent practise tool. I play Uilleann pipes and flute and find this app very useful.

### 5/5 — Rock solid stability

*2022-12-16*

Sound generation has always proven itself dependable across software updates (iPad 9, iPadOS 16.2)

### 5/5 — “Does what it says on the box” - very very well!

*2019-08-31*

Just what I was looking for to back an A3 Just Intonation flute I am having made.
Thanks for doing this Michael, I will be looking to get more of your apps!

### 5/5 — Très bons bourdons !

*2017-05-03*

....Pour instruments à hanches doubles

### 5/5 — Simplicity

*2016-08-08*

Simple function, simple layout. Easy to use.

### 5/5 — It works perfectly with the built-in speaker!

*2012-01-28*

Trumpet13, the drones work perfectly with the speakers. If you don't hear anything from them, it's because the mute switch on your iPhone is on. It's the very first thing listed on the app's support website FAQ,

### 5/5 — Really useful

*2011-06-14*

I just bought this and I'm really impressed. Very nice for intonation and impovisation practice, especially for strings players.

### 5/5 — Love the drones

*2011-01-10*

Stable app that is just what it says it is.

The tunability factor is awesome.

Helpful update to make:
As a singer, it would be more usable to me if it was possible to have an additional octave for both sets of drones.

### 5/5 — Good Practice Tool

*2010-06-09*

I love using this app while practicing Celtic fiddling. The sound and tone quality are great! I think that many give low ratings because they download it without realizing what it is exactly. It's exactly what the title says it is:
"Just drones"
This is a really nice tool for those musicians out there looking for a pitch reference while playing. I think it's a very neat app.

### 4/5 — Well done.

*2018-02-10*

I’ve had this app on two phones over several years. I’m surprised to see low ratings from some but I guess they didn’t know what Uilleann pipes were.
