## What is K Cast?

K Cast is an app that enables you to securely communicate pitches to your catcher using only hardware you likely already have—your phone and AirPods. No need to buy expensive hardware or set up confusing electronics.

Give your catcher one AirPod that is already paired to your phone. We highly recommended you put the phone in transparency mode to let outside sound in. You can then give your pitcher an Apple Watch(worn on the glove hand under a black wrist band) with the Apple Watch K Cast app running to completely remove the need for the catcher to signal pitches to the pitcher. This will speed up games, eliminate pitcher/catchers getting crossed up on pitches and prevent those pesky runners on second base from stealing your pitches and signaling to their hitters.

Next, in the K Cast app, tap the location in or outside the strike zone where you want the pitcher to pitch the baseball, select the pitch type, and tap Send. That’s it. The application lets you know the pitch was transmitted to the catcher’s AirPod. The catcher then signals the pitch to the pitcher.

K Cast is secure and enables  you to effortlessly send pitches to your catcher without having to use cumbersome signs or codes that can be stolen by overzealous coaches with too much time on their hands.

Tips:
- Make sure your phone is not muted and the volume is at a reasonable level. A muted phone will not speak the pitch or location to the catcher.
- If you have multiple catchers, you can give each their own AirPod tip.
- Put your phone in "Do Not Disturb" mode so any calls or texts don't disturb the catcher.
- If you are using the Apple Watch app, you probably want to have the pitcher take it off between innings and put it on a portable charger so that it doesnt run low on battery while pitching.

## Key features

- Secure pitch communication

- Optional Apple Watch integration
- Eliminates traditional signs

### 5/5 — High school use

*2026-03-18, version 1.3.3*

Currently using this for high school softball pitch calling, and it works great with earbud combo. However, I would love for the pitch selection to be a menu of buttons instead of a slide. That would speed up the game for pitch calling.

### 4/5 — Cool App

*2025-12-03, version 1.3.3*

This is a cool, easy to use app. The catcher messaging doesn’t send to the watch like the pitches. Is this something that can be fixed?

### 4/5 — Custom Messages would be a nice addition.

*2025-04-15, version 1.3.3*

Adding some customization of the messages would be a great addition. As well as the ability to add pitches and pick offs to select bases.

### 5/5 — Affordable alternative to what the pros have!!!

*2025-03-21, version 1.2*

Had some issues at first because my Apple Watch was timing out (need to alter the sleep function to increase the time before the screen turns off).

The app works great! I still wish you could wipe the screen (press a button and the last play goes away on the smart watch in case the watch goes to sleep and stays locked on the last play and the catcher doesn’t realize that you’re not calling the same pitch over and over). Glad to hear you’re adding some good situations! Still wish you could put some encouragement in there or something custom-like if you’ve been working with them on a custom play.

Great work! Thanks

Had some issues at first because my Apple Watch was timing out (need to alter the sleep function to increase the time before the screen turns off).

The app works great! I still wish you could wipe the screen and it would be super cool if you could put custom plays in there or words of encouragement to your catcher…or even remind them of an aggressive base runner, drop 3 situation, etc.

Great work! Thanks

### 5/5 — Softball User

*2024-12-21*

Works great for communication from coach to catcher.
Wish it had an option for screw ball as well.
Would be nice if it had a blank spot to type in own command

**Developer response:** I added the "screw ball" pitch type and it'll be released shortly. I'll also look into allowing users to build their own pitches by typing in custom pitch types but no promises on that one...

### 4/5 — Good premise- needs improving

*2024-08-31, version 1.1.3*

Seems to be glitchy when going to roster to edit pitchers. So far have not been able to customize pitches per pitcher.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2024-05-15, version 1.1.2*

Great app and very simple! Could you add some softball pitches? Rise Ball and Drop Ball for example.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.3 — 2025-03-23

The Apple Watch app should now be far more reliable in receiving messages from the K Cast app. Also, there is haptic feedback on the watch to let the pitcher know that a new message was received from the app.

### 1.3.1 — 2025-03-22

New! Apple Watch support!
Added ability to send messages to the catcher

### 1.2 — 2025-01-15

The new K Cast Apple Watch companion app will now also receive the pitch being called from the phone app. Pitchers can wear the watch under a black wristband on the glove hand(where rules permit). Of course, you dont have to give the watch to the pitcher, you could instead let the catcher wear it if wearing an Air Pod while catching isnt their thing.

- the Apple Watch must be paired to the iPhone where K Cast is being used to call the pitches
- The Apple Watch app must be installed on the watch and running in the foreground

### 1.1.3 — 2024-05-17

added a few pitches for softball like Rise Ball and Drop Ball.

### 1.1.2 — 2024-05-14

Added: option for pitcher to "fake shake off" a pitch and "pick off" pitch type to tell the catcher to let the pitcher know they should try to pick off the runner.
