It teaches the very beginning concepts of algebraic manipulations in a way that kids can grasp at a much earlier age than is typically taught. The critical stuff: From what I can tell this game only covers the simplification of equations which is hardly the "basics of algebra." It is cute, fun, and addictive but is only tutoring algebra in the utmost basic sense. From what I can see, there is no real purpose to chapters and levels. Once you get past the introductory phase of the game, the chapters and levels all appear to be the same. There are some quirks, bugs, and just arbitrary unintuitive decisions in the UX. Too many to detail here but the most glaring one is the choice to place the card row behind the window drag bar making it extremely difficult to select a card without accidentally dragging the entire viewport. The artwork and general style of the game is catchy and well made. The smuggling of algebraic concepts via arbitrary symbols is clever. I'd love to see a version of this game that continues past the mere simplification of equations and on to actually doing algebra. ### 2/5 — Sad *2023-09-27* I’m very disappointed in this. I owned this game a few years ago before Kahoot! bought out DragonBox. It is ridiculous that I have to pay to play something I have used in the past. I will most likely end up buying this, but I am still upset about how the app was changed. ### 1/5 — Apps shouldn’t be listed as free unless they’re truly free *2023-08-12* It’s not good product design to list something as free on the App Store and gate the experience immediately. Today was the day and I discovered that it was only playable with a subscrption now?! What the heck. 10 Euro per month which was a game for a couple of dollars before. Also the game has no sound and wasn’t updated for the newer iPhones where you have the gesture to switch apps on the bottom which leads to my kids closing the game once per minute or so. Just downloaded the app, and I paid for a full year subscription. After that the app just crashed. And it keeps crashing on restarts. Already paid for the subscription and cannot even use the app. Please fix this asap. ### 1/5 — SCAMMM BEWARE!!!😵😡 *2026-03-03, version 1.14.1* I was happy to start my math journey, so I paid $20 for the buyout of this app! The second I clicked to create my account, the app shut down and stopped working. Now I can’t even open it! The code is that bad, but it’s funny how they can take your money and then just stop working. I wasted $20 as a college student and consumer! Please beware. So replacing numbers with fish just makes the concept of algebra way more confusing than it needs to be. They know that 1-1=0. But why does fish+night fish=0? How do I explain that night fish cancels out fish if they aren’t touching box, but if they do touch box, suddenly night fish cancels out night fish, and fish cancels out fish? So much easier to build upon their previous knowledge of math, and they can see that 1 divided by 1 =1. ### 1/5 — paid for the app already *2025-03-05* i bought this app during lockdown when i was going to school full time and haven't used it since i passed my math class. 4 years later im trying to redownload it and it's a whole new app acting like i didn't already pay for the app before and i don't want to pay again it isn't fair i have to pay for it again. i bought both algebra apps back before kahoots owned the app when it was 5+ and 12+ and geometry but it isn't showing i bought it. **Developer response:** Hi there! Every time I start the app, it prompts me to purchase a plan again, then when I go through the flow to repurchase, Apple says that I already purchased it, then when it prompts me to “get it again for free” the app gets stuck forever on a loading spinner. The programmers of this app have no idea how to implement the functionality to allow customers to use the app that they have paid for. Do not under any circumstances give these people your money. ### 1/5 — Great game, terrible support *2023-10-17* We’ve purchased the subscription at the beginning of the year as our son enjoyed the apps. He went off it for some time and when we returned the log in page change and we were unable to regain access, none of the emails worked. We contacted customer support with hope of resolving the issue however they have been terribly slow with their replies and have now gone completely silent since our last message on 6th October. I would pay more for additional puzzles. *2024-06-08* This game is beloved by my math loving son, who learned algebra with a great deal of help through this app. I wish there were 10x as many puzzles! There's enough puzzles to introduce each concept (and it's really broken down to tiny incremental conceptual steps brilliantly) but not enough to get to mastery once all the concepts are introduced.
