Frame a single photo or video. Make it a work. Kakou is a photo framing app from Japan — shaped by washi texture, traditional color, and the quiet craft of "飾る" (kazaru, "to frame"). Pick a photo or video, pick a color, frame it. Done in three taps. --- ◆ Start framing the moment you pick. Pick a photo or video and you're in the editor. Frame color, border, and ratio adjust with a live preview — the same workflow for stills and motion. ◆ Frame your videos, the same way. Up to 60 seconds, with trim and mute, exported as a framed MP4. ◆ Color is part of the work. Eleven traditional Japanese colors — sumi ink, shu vermilion, ai indigo, and more. A custom picker for anything else. Inner border and background set independently. ◆ Six border styles — solid, double, film rebate, washi edge, mat V-cut, glass. The washi edge mimics the torn fibrous edge of Japanese handmade paper — procedurally generated, every export unique. The film rebate border can carry the frayed fade of a darkroom print. Photos flow in monthly sections, and you can filter by album, favorites, or videos. Trace the right edge of the screen to glide straight to the month you're after, like following a bookmark. Switch between a woven masonry layout and an even grid. Touch and hold a photo to share, favorite, or delete it on the spot. Favorite photos carry a small folded-corner mark. Fixed an issue where the V-cut border with rounded corners could appear clipped at the four corners. Plus small refinements and bug fixes. ### 3.3.1 — 2026-07-21 Fixed an issue where the letter spacing of titles and gear info was not applied correctly to photos exported at original resolution. Place them above the photo with Above, split them top and bottom with Split, or give the bottom margin more room with Bottom Wide. The record of how a shot was made stays with the finished frame. Location is off by default; turn it on in Settings. Glass border: A new border style places a thin glass plate in front of your photo. Light bends at the edges and the plate floats above the surface. Adjust its presence with three Clarity levels — Thin, Clear, or Deep.
