There aren't many things like this nowadays, but rather various and sundry "R2-D2" type gadgets that require virtually no creativity and are overpriced and underwhelming. And a great, great deal of the fun is in the construction. This little "Scarrax" is a whole new ball game - think erector set for the modern era. At first, the build is almost overwhelmingly intimidating : a sheet of flimsy looking black plastic and a heavy sticker sheet. Also, of course, the "block" that contains all electronics. The plastic parts seem virtually incapable of doing what is advertised, and the printed plastic sticker sheet to make the robots body? Doesn't seem possible the entire project could be anything other than an overpriced joke... Well! Using nothing more than small plastic rivets (and there are spares, don't worry), you create what's nearly a living, fun -loving organism. The app itself guides you firmly and well, and videos are embedded right in place for the difficult to understand areas. You aren't going to be snapping plastic parts into one doohickey and fiddling with batteries and light bulbs - you're going to be, well, folding plastic to shape then press-riveting it into place. And the end result is absolutely amazing. The little critters run exactly like cockroaches (which mechanics they actually use), are VERY fast without using a single wheel, and can be programmed to do pretty much anything, from dancing, hunting other robots, or simply exploring. My point is this : your kid will have a true sense of pride owning and operating his robot, having built it from seemingly nothing. And as far as features go - the Sphero and similar devices can't hold a candle to the Kamigami's brilliance of design and continually evolving programming. Trust me - I'm 55, and though I bought it for my nephew I couldn't resist building it for myself. Now I've ordered three more to complete my collection! I can't recommend these highly enough. I like to make YouTube videos ### 1/5 — good package, but NO functionality. *2019-09-21, version 1.4* Building it is sort of easy, it’s a great package. The “coding”, however, is terrible. This is basically no different from a remote control car from 20 years ago. Basically, it has several awesome sensors on it, but you’re not allowed to use them in any way through the code! It would have been so easy to implement this! You’re also not allowed to store several strings of code on the phone, so say goodbye to actually learning something. You have to start from the ground up, from memory, every time. You are unable to create your own actions (upside down, freeze tag, edit your creations, etc). After a while it just got boring. I deleted the app for storage and stuff. But the creepy thing is, it keeps re-downloading after I deleted it. It’s as if Kamigami is haunted and want’s it revenge for me deleting it LOL. So yeah. Thanks.
