Kanachan is a Japanese keyboard where every kana is printed on a key and stays where you left it. If you are learning Japanese, the standard iPhone keyboard asks you to memorise something you cannot see: on a flick keyboard each key hides four more kana in four directions, and you only find out which is which by holding the key down. Kanachan takes the opposite approach. Every kana has its own key, visible at all times. There is no hidden rule to learn — if you can read the kana, you can find it. The layout is the JIS kana layout, the same arrangement used on Japanese computer keyboards. Kanachan converts by reading a dictionary file stored inside the app, so you can leave Full Access switched off and still type and convert normally. Full Access is only needed if you want the keyboard to remember the words you pick and to use your own dictionary. Both of those write to a database on your iPhone. It was caused by the keyboard quitting unexpectedly at the moment the host app changed the document you were typing into. - Unexpected keyboard shutdowns are now recorded in the diagnostic information. If the problem happens, sending us that record lets us pinpoint the cause. - Adjusted the memory levels at which dictionaries are released. The previous levels were too high, so iOS could shut the keyboard down before the safeguards had a chance to act. SIX LANGUAGES - The app and keyboard are now available in English, French, Spanish, Korean, and Traditional Chinese as well as Japanese. A language selected for the app takes priority; otherwise, they follow your device language. - Japanese conversion and the dictionary are unchanged. DISPLAY FIXES - Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards showed the internal name of the extension. It now reads "Kanachan". - Fixed an issue where the version shown on the About screen did not match the installed version. - Fixed an issue where Full Access could continue to appear enabled based solely on an old write record. The screen now shows the last write time and explains how to check again when the status cannot be determined. CLEARER DIAGNOSTICS - The diagnostics screen was filled with routine records, which buried the problems that matter. It now shows problems and a short summary by default, with an option to show the latest 40 detailed records.
