Build a Japanese reading foundation that sticks.

KanaDaruma takes complete beginners from hiragana and katakana to useful starter vocabulary through short, focused lessons. Hear each sound, recognize its shape, recall it before revealing the answer, and revisit mistakes after a helpful pause.

WRITE ON PAPER
Listen to individual kana you've learned, write each one on paper, and photograph the page for an optional five-part Daruma Score. The score is friendly practice feedback, not a calligraphy certification. Core lessons and Situations work offline; photo scoring requires an internet connection.

It renews automatically unless turned off at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and you can manage or cancel it in your Apple Account settings. Free kana lessons and one chapter a day stay free.

• Say it in Japanese: the meaning is the question and the Japanese is the answer
• Write what you heard: build the word from the clip alone, with nothing spelled out
• Fill the gap: one kana is cut out, and the choices are the ones learners really confuse
• Match words to their meanings, which word chapters never actually offered before
• The word builder is cued by the meaning now; the reading is one tap away if you need it
• A new word shows its Japanese first, and the meaning waits for you to ask
