## What is KanaPractice?

Hiragana and katakana are the foundation of Japanese reading — and KanaPractice teaches you both, one character at a time.

Spaced repetition tracks every character individually, showing you what you need to review and when. The more you practice, the smarter it gets.

Two ways to practice:
  - Recognition — see a kana character, type the reading.
  - Production — see a romaji reading, choose the right character.
Both directions are tracked separately, because mastering kana requires both.

Word reading
Move beyond individual characters. Practice reading real Japanese vocabulary — greetings, common verbs, everyday nouns  — written entirely in kana.

Four mastery levels
Every character has a mastery level based on your history: New, Practicing, Learning, or Mastered. You always know where you stand.

Reference charts and dictionary
Full hiragana and katakana charts with mastery indicators. A searchable dictionary of 7,000+ kana words. Look anything up, tap to practice it.

KanaPractice Pro
The free tier covers all of hiragana basics — 46 characters and 200 common words, fully unlocked. Pro adds katakana, voiced and combo kana, the full word library, and deeper stats.

- iCloud sync — Your progress now syncs automatically across all your devices via iCloud.
  - Study reminders — Optional daily notification to remind you to practice
  - Word Reading is now fairer — The English meaning is hidden until you answer, so it no longer gives away the answer
  for loanwords.
  - Smarter spaced repetition for vocabulary — Fixed an issue where common kana (like う) were overrepresented in Word
  Reading sessions; "Words Requiring Attention" now only shows words you've genuinely gotten wrong.
  - No more repeated words in a single Word Reading session.
  - Richer character stats — Character detail pages now show response-time trends and which characters you commonly
  confuse.
  - Fixed a display glitch where combo kana (きゃ, しゅ, etc.) could wrap awkwardly in session results.
  - Cleaned up a handful of duplicate/incorrect vocabulary entries.
  - Various reliability improvements to backup, restore, and sync.
