Or is it less? Update: Developer clarified that it if full Jouyou plus more in the app description, cant ask for more than that, thank you! **Developer response:** Fair question, and as of version 3.0 the answer is: more. Every school-taught kanji and beyond — 3,000 in total, all JLPT levels, with audio and stroke-order diagrams. The description now says so explicitly. ### 3/5 — Contenu amélioré *2026-07-15, version 3.0* L’app est bien réalisée avec pleins de bonnes idées. La maj 3.0 passe à 3000 kanjis. Malheureusement la plupart des kanjis n’ont pas de dessin afin d’aider à mémoriser le kanji ce qui était justement l’intérêt de cette application. Il faut les importer nous-mêmes. ### 3/5 — Around 250 kanji not enough *2025-08-24* The app is amazing. Very helpful for new learners. However I was disappointed to see it has only around 250 Kanji to study. I was expecting all kanjis like 2000+. Also There is no option to categorize Kanjis in JLPT levels. This could be an awesome app. What a waste. **Developer response:** Great news: version 3.0 grew the app from ~250 to the 3,000 most used Japanese kanji — every school grade and every JLPT level from N5 to N1, with example words and audio for each. Lessons are organized by theme, but all JLPT levels are covered, and you can build custom lessons too. Is it supposed to work like this. Cette fonction bug et c’est bien dommage car ce concept d’appli m’a vraiment plu (Pour ça les 4 étoiles au lieu de 5) J’espère que vous allez régler le bug 🙏🏼 ### 3/5 — Stürzt ab *2021-03-23, version 2.1* Eigentlich eine super App die sehr liebevoll gemacht ist und super zum lernen der Kanji. Thanks for coming back to the app after all those years! ### 4/5 — A wonderful app with some problems *2019-03-29, version 2.0.1* This app is wonderful, I tried TONS of app and this is the best for learning kanji for sure. There are so many ways to test your knowledge and the graphic is so good. But. You pay to have the kanjis of jlpt n5 and n4 and this can be a little too much BUT it is written in the description of this app. The major problem for me is that, when I tried to create a new lesson (to include only jlpt n5 kanjis) I couldn’t find the way to add more than one...how should I separate the kanjis when I list them, to make the app recognize them? Combien de kanji quand on paie ? ### 1/5 — What even is this app? *2021-01-06* I came here to learn kanji but when I open the app I see a zoomed in picture of a textbook page, but such that you can only see half of the page. It doesn’t allow you to scrub across the page either. It does, however allow you to scroll down to what appears to be a child’s artwork, which is quite cute but not at all helpful for learning Japanese. **Developer response:** What you saw was the community area: learners share photos and drawings as memory aids for each kanji, so a textbook snapshot or a child-like doodle can appear there — that's user content, not the app itself. The app is study cards (readings, example words with audio, stroke-order diagrams) plus quizzes where you draw the kanji yourself. Version 3.0 now covers 3,000 kanji. Give it another look — and info@oktoid.org if it's still confusing. ### 1/5 — Incomplete *2020-09-03* This demo version had me really excited, and I was ready to purchase the full version. Unfortunately 300 is not nearly enough for me. Bump it up to 2000 for the JLPT N1 and I’ll buy in a heartbeat. Also disappointing that I had to search comments to find out how many the paid version had to offer. This really ought to be on both the app presentation and at the point of purchase.... **Developer response:** We took you up on that — and went further: version 3.0 has 3,000 kanji, covering every JLPT level including N1, all with audio and stroke-order diagrams. The description now states the numbers up front, too. Hope you'll give it that heartbeat. ### 1/5 — DO NOT PAY FOR THIS. *2018-10-18, version 2.0.1* Don’t fall for this scam! This is a “demo” version of Kanjipic, a better app. There is literally zero content beyond some samples. The program then encourages you to make your ‘own’ content (why’d you enter thousands of kanji into yourself for something you paid for?) except even this function is literally missing, you can’t make organized folders, lessons etc. for yourself even if you were inclined to do their job for them. DO NOT PAY FOR THIS. ### 1/5 — Disappointing *2018-07-21, version 2.0.1* The free version has only 18 (eighteen) kanji. My dog knows more than 18! If you look at the screen shots here at the app store page you don't have to bother downloading the free app. By the way, there is absolutely no indication as to how many kanji are in the paid version. 18 more? Fifty? One hundred? ### 1/5 — What a pity! *2018-02-10, version 2.0.1* A very well done app! Unfortunately, it has lots of problems! The worst is that, after paying for the complete version, I discover that just a very small number of kanji are available! I pay but they tell me I can add some new lessons! ‘I’ have to do that? ‘I’ have to add draws, I have to make exercises! 4,99€ for what? A nice graphic? ### 1/5 — Not worth $4.99 *2017-02-26* Good user interface. No options to customize and limited on the amount of Kanji. **Developer response:** Both limits are gone: version 3.0 has 3,000 kanji (every school grade and JLPT level), and custom lessons were rebuilt — write words or exact kanji and build any study list you like. The app you reviewed and today's app share little more than the name. ### 1/5 — Misleading *2017-01-11* The demo version has awesome pneumonic pictures. However, when you purchase the app you discover the the new kanji don't have pictures, you expected to make your own. Very disappointing. **Developer response:** Actually there is an option to download images shared by other people. ### 1/5 — Extremely low level *2016-12-18, version 2.0.1* This app did not make it clear that it is for BEGINNERS and is therefore useless for those studying Japanese currently. I wasted money on an app which has no use to me, and want a refund. It offers the in app purchase option to 'unlock all' and so one would assume it had a vast number to unlock. No, it has a grand total of 253 kanji which is about 1/4 of ehat I should currently know and need to study. I’ve tried lots of Kanji apps and this one combines many elements to help you learn as fast as possible. I’m using it on an iPad and it’s smooth, fast, and intuitive to use. The only reason this app doesn’t have more reviews, is that unlike other apps, the developer doesn’t pester you for review. In fact the devs haven’t made it easy to get back here to the App Store to even leave a review! Some of the older reviews here complain about lack of customization and it seems to have been addressed. There’s tons of flexibility for customization. Note to developer: Your app deserves more reviews ... please add a button to leave you a review so you can get more reviews for this excellent app you’ve developed. **Developer response:** Thank you for this — and you're right about the review button; it's noted. Version 3.0 meanwhile grew the app to 3,000 kanji (every JLPT level) with audio everywhere. Free update, and reviews like yours are exactly why we kept going. ### 5/5 — Great App but little Kanji *2020-01-29, version 2.1* I really like this app most compared to other Kanji apps on the App Store since it has a very well integrated writing mode. Sadly there are only Kanji for N5 and N4. Si les dessins, parfois loufoques, ne vous plaisent pas, l’application vous permet d’importer vos propres images... une bonne chose si comme moi vous utilisez le livre « Les Kanji dans la tête » ! Vous pouvez également créer vos propres leçons.
