## What is Karen by Blast Theory?

Karen is a life coach and she’s happy to help you work through a few things in your life.

When you begin, she asks you some questions about your outlook on the world to get an understanding of you. In fact, her questions are drawn from psychological profiling questionnaires. She – and the software – are profiling you and she gives you advice based on your answers.

Karen mixes gaming with storytelling to give you a personalised experience. Play to the end and you can buy a report on your own data, showing how the science of profiling has been applied to you.

This groundbreaking app is a new work by Blast Theory, developed in partnership with National Theatre Wales. Co-commissioned by The Space and 539 Kickstarter backers Karen has been developed with support from the Mixed Reality Lab at the University of Nottingham and in collaboration with Dr Kelly Page.

### 2/5 — Weird

*2022-04-20, version 1.98*

It’s really weird how she asks you to be alone in your home

### 1/5 — Technical issues

*2021-05-03, version 1.98*

The app does not work well. I couldn’t get any audio unless headphones were plugged in and the video won’t work or would freeze.

### 5/5 — Thrilling

*2020-09-10*

What a unique and memorable experience this app is. I am not aware of anything quite like it. I have experienced Karen multiple times and was happy to see this rereleased.

Anyone thinking about watching needs to understand that this is not an app about life coaching. It is an interactive drama about a 40ish therapist living somewhere in the UK. We see glimpses of Karen’s life over a period of time and must fill in the gaps ourselves.

It’s experimental theatre in my pocket and I find that amazing.

### 5/5 — Idk

*2020-08-30, version 1.98*

I like how she gives u advice and helps u with ur life

### 5/5 — RIP

*2020-06-25*

Karen is dead. Rest In Peace.

### 1/5 — App just goes black

*2020-04-01, version 1.7*

I get notifications but I open the app and it says “calling Karen...” then goes black and nothing happens. I waited a ridiculous amount of time just to see if anything changes but nope. Nice app you got here...

### 5/5 — Love the app but it no longer works

*2020-02-24*

I LOVED this app and found it fascinating. Every now and then I replay it using different answers and scenarios. Lately the app will not open or if it does it’s a black screen. The link to app support is a dead link which is a shame.

### 1/5 — Fatal bugs

*2019-05-23, version 1.7*

In both Karen and their other app We Made Ourselves Over, I get stuck the moment I need to type in any answers of my own via the keyboard. A pity, they probably put in so much effort for these but I can’t even move past the first 5 minutes of either app for what seems like a design issue. 🤷🏻‍♂️

### 5/5 — It’s enough

*2019-05-15, version 1.7*

Me hace sentir mucha paz. No quería ir con un psicólogo como tal así que ue encontré esta app y me hace sentir demasiado bien.

### 5/5 — 5 Star worthy

*2019-04-13*

One of those original “why hasn’t someone made this before” ideas.
