### 3/5 — Service not available

*2026-06-12*

Wenn ich ein Wort hinzufügen will kommt andauern “Service not available”. Ansonsten ganz gut, aber so lohnt sich ein Abo nicht.

### 3/5 — Fix your translate

*2026-05-31*

The response i get when i try to translate something

“Translation error: DioException [bad response]: This exception was thrown because the response has a status code of 502 and RequestOptions.validateStatus was configured to throw for this status code.
The status code of 502 has the following meaning:
"Server error - the server failed to fulfil an apparently valid request"
Read more about status codes at https:// developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Status
In order to resolve this exception you typically have either to verify and fix your request code or you have to fix the server code.”

**Developer response:** Hi! Should be fixed now. We had a server error yesterday. If the issue still occurs to you, please write to support@karteto.com

### 3/5 — Good but needs work

*2026-05-31, version 0.10.1*

I signed up for a free trial only to be charged $20. Then upon practicing over the 150 words, the app consistently keeps crashing.

### 3/5 — Average

*2026-05-20, version 0.9.8*

Interface is so slow, membership is very expensive, story feature usually doesnt work

### 2/5 — Deck creation needs streamlining

*2026-05-17, version 0.9.8*

Update:
Lost another star. Continuously I make decks, and then they disappear. Sometimes they show, sometimes, poof, they disappear. I close out the app and open it again, and sometimes they reappear. Other times they don’t. Then I make a new one because the other has disappeared, only to have the original show up in the My Decks list. When I try to delete the supplicants, the wheels just spin while saying “deleting” but nothing changes. If it did delete, there is no notification saying do. Also, inexplicably, it seems the only way to get to ‘My Decks’ is to go to ‘Explore’ first. WHY? These are already created decks that should be easily accessible from the main page. Get it together. This is such a good idea, but the bugs make this increasingly frustrating to actually use this app in a meaningful way. I don’t want to spend hours troubleshooting instead of actually using the decks I have made.
ORIGINAL:
The Explore function is so wonderful and helpful BUT I found trying to do anything with the app in terms of customizing it to my needs, an incredibly frustrating experience. You need to streamline the ‘Creating New Decks’ feature- I should be able to easily create a new deck from words directly selected from the ‘Explore’ tab AND since I can’t do that, when using the create a new term feature, there should at least be a search feature that pulls up a list of possible words for me (Including words from the ‘Explore’ feature to pick from to add to the list… I am a beginner and expecting me to type in a new word in Greek and then add a sample sentence for it, is unreasonable, when the word I want to know is already is in your ‘Explore’ feature .

There should also be a ‘draft’ feature, as well, so I can add the words I want before saving/publishing. I tried to publish one, with two placeholder words, so I wouldn’t have to rewrite the entire description, and only after it failed to save did I realize that the problem is there is no direct way to add from words I added from Explore- I would first have to go in to my settings, create new groups I.e. ‘cognates in English’… and then after creating those groups, THEN go to each word (that I had already selected earlier in Explore mode), and assign EACH one of those words, one by one, to the ‘cognates in English group’ … and THEN presumably I will be able to create a new deck from that group.

That is entirely TOO MANY STEPS required to create a deck for any app…but especially for a paid app. Please allow us to automatically create a new group from selected words in ‘Explore’, which should solve the problem I described above.

Another caveat- the title space is far too few characters when creating deck or group titles. I wanted to create multiple decks of words with the following titles:
COGNATES - English (Identical/Similar)
COGNATES English (Related)
and the same for:
COGNATES-Spanish
COGNATES- Portuguese

This way I could use words I already know in my other languages that are identical or almost the same as in Greek, and ones that are related but not identical/not as closely related. Unfortunately the space allows only some of the characters needed for each of those Deck titles, like ‘Cognates Portugu’… that’s not clear/neat enough.

### 4/5 — Could be perfect

*2026-05-17*

It’s by far the best app I ever used. It won’t help you learn languages from scratch but if you need to improve your vocabulary, you can be sure you’ll memorize it faster. Now, like some others said, the biggest issue is AI. AI images are a thing but the translations are also generated by AI, which is a bummer for such app. There is an option to report any incorrect translation, but it shouldn’t be the learner’s job to do that. I faced multiple bugs due to AI already such as words being presents 4 times in my vocabulary list or being complete nonsense. If the budget was used to hire actual teachers instead of AIs, I am sure this app could become the top one on the market. It has too much potential to be wasted like that.

### 3/5 — Great potential

*2026-05-13*

Flashcard concept is great - but it has a lot of translation holes. Ie: Error messages when you try to translate sample sentences for a word, and many words don’t have an audio. So the framework is fantastic but it needs to fix these issues. Of course because it uses AI there’s also a risk of inaccuracy in translations as well.

### 4/5 — Could be perfect with a few tweaks

*2026-04-16, version 0.9.3*

I’m excited about this app because I think it has a lot of potential. I’ve used Anki for 5 years and this might make me move over completely. I love the interface and the addictiveness of it. Having the audio and the pictures and example sentences all really help with learning the words effortlessly. A few suggestions though: 1: improve the accuracy of definitions because I see a few errors and it makes me not trust new languages I don’t know anything about, 2: allow us to tap to unhide translations of the example sentences on the cards for those we can’t figure out, 3: don’t have the app turn off Spotify music while using the app, but maybe just lower the volume of it. I like listening to classical music while studying, 4: have more data/stats on how many words will be due on which days (this will help gauge how many words to start learning per day), and info on when a specific word will be reviewed again., 5: remember to add “to” in verbs to avoid confusion. I.e.: “to play” instead of “play”. 6: (and this may already be a feature, but I’m not sure) allow for multiple cards of the same word for different meanings. In Spanish, llave was listed as “wrench” instead of “key”, but apparently wrench is a lesser known definition for that word. But it only allows for one card for llave.

### 2/5 — Überteuert und frustrierend

*2026-03-22*

**Developer response:** Germans are the toughest reviewers! As you say, it's getting better and maybe, just maybe, one day we'll get 3 stars from you :)

### 4/5 — Great potential, bugfixes needed

*2026-03-10*

Really nice app, could become amazing. As an experienced language learner i believe in it.

Please fix the asynchronous descriptions - i need the articles and correct examples without having to press the (i) every time before.

Didn’t find another way to provide feedback, hence you‘re getting it here

Pricing is fair if the look and feel gets improved a bit

**Developer response:** Hi! The articles and descriptions are already loaded up without having to press the (i) in the latest update for any new words that you are adding.
If you still have this issue or can describe it in more detail, feel free to send an email to support@karteto.com.
Thank you for the review! We are improving the app all the time, so it will only get better.

### 2/5 — Easy to use

*2026-02-28*

I really like it but I have one question. Once a word is categorized as “learned” will it show again like one month later or not at all? I prefer it’ll show up because I’ll forget.

**Developer response:** Just 2 stars for the "really like"? You are a tough person :)

The app uses spaced repetition. The word will come back to learn relatively quickly (minutes, then hours, then days) as you learn it. There is an option to mark it as learned - that way it will come back in a month. This is for the cases where students don't want to see a particular word in their study deck anymore, but would still like to keep it in the library.

There is also an option of turning off the "Spaced Repetion" toggle in the settings - that way all words will show up to learn, regardless of their current status.

### 2/5 — Too many audio mistakes

*2026-02-25*

I really like the concept of this app. The combination of image of sound structured vocabulary learning is engaging and well thought out. The idea behind it is definitely strong. However, the audio qualities is unfortunately inconsistent in Hebrew, pronunciation of depends on correct vowel marking and without the text to speech frequently produces incorrect pronunciations. This makes it difficult to rely on the audio for accurate learning. My teacher definitely advised against it, too bad. If the developers improved the handling of realization or reviewed the audio more carefully, this app could become truly excellent.

### 2/5 — Potential but needs a lot of work

*2026-02-16*

I like the general idea for this app and it’s fun to use! But there are also just wayyyy too many incorrect translations by the AI that if you’re actually trying to learn this way you’ll spend lots of time learning the incorrect thing. For the hefty subscription price they’re asking, it’s absolutely inconceivable to me why they don’t at least double check their words are correctly translated BEFORE they let their customers study them. I would def consider subscribing after the free trial if there was any kind of quality control, but as it is the creators of the app are essentially asking you to pay a king’s ransom for a half-baked product that will actually set your language learning progress backwards, seeing as you’ll have to subsequently UNLEARN all the incorrect translations this app’s AI spits out at you. Disappointing, because the app has potential, but as it is I think it’s utterly obscene they want to charge you €10/ week to study AI auto-translated words which haven’t been verified for accuracy.

### 1/5 — Blank cards

*2026-02-11*

Great concept but poor execution. Cards appear blank and never load. Also £24 per month, in this economy?

### 3/5 — Good, but problems

*2026-02-08*

I love the illustrations. There are two problems with the app. It does not give the article with the word so you don’t know if the word is masculine or feminine. Some of the words have sample sentences that don’t include the word. For these two reasons, especially the first one, I cancelled my subscription

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — U have to pay

*2026-07-03*

Useless

### 1/5 — I put password in that is more than six characters long

*2026-06-14*

It tells me the password must be more than six characters. Did you even test that the sign up process works???? What a joke

Developer response “What is the issue? It is standard practice to request a longer password as shorter ones don't give enough protection.” Did you even read it? I said in the title “I put in a password that is more than six characters long” which satisfies their stated requirement but was not accepted.

**Developer response:** What is the issue? It is standard practice to request a longer password as shorter ones don't give enough protection.

### 1/5 — Interesting concept but sloppy execution

*2026-06-11, version 0.10.4*

The AI images are really weird and off-putting

### 1/5 — Useless for learning new words

*2026-06-06*

So I choose words I know, then get presented with them again along with words I don’t, then the words I don’t know have zero context… how the hell am I supposed to learn them? Useless.

**Developer response:** Only add the words that you want to learn to your practice list. Each word has a part of speech, example, definition, antonyms, synonimcs, collocations and a phonetic transcription - plenty of context.

### 1/5 — I put password in that is more than six characters long

*2026-06-03*

It tells me the password must be more than six characters. Did you even test that the sign up process works???? What a joke

**Developer response:** What is the issue? It is standard practice to request a longer password as shorter ones don't give enough protection.

### 1/5 — No refund

*2026-05-30, version 0.10.1*

I signed up for a free review to check out app. Was instantly charged $118. Cancelled subscription within 1 hour. Was denied a refund 2x’s. Even if app is good being charged instantly is deceitful.

### 1/5 — Stuck at set notification time

*2026-05-27, version 0.10.1*

Iphone 15 Pro, iOS 18.7.7
Iphone 16 Pro, iOS 26
Can’t forward, no way to report error

### 1/5 — The audio frequently mismatches the text

*2026-05-15, version 0.9.8*

I’m trying the German vocabulary and out of my first 20 words 3 of the audios are complete gobbledy gook. They don’t match the text in any way. I’ll be deleting the app.

I assume the app has been built on AI.

### 1/5 — Be careful

*2026-04-12*

You get impression 1st week is for free but it isn’t with some subscriptions. When trying to cancel they state that goes only through ApplePay and the latter states it goes only through Karteto. Go with other apps for more clarity

**Developer response:** There is a free trial on the annual and quarterly subscriptions, but not on the weekly subscription.
This is clearly shown.
All payments are handled by Apple, Karteto does not handle payments.

### 1/5 — Charged for a free trial and it beyond confusing

*2026-02-22, version 0.8.4*

It’s impossible to know what is going on. They’re not teaching. They are just throwing random stuff at you and there is no clear path about how to proceed through a lesson. And yes they charged me $20 for a free trial.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Stopped working, deleted all of my flashcards

*2026-06-23*

Stopped working after a few days delete all my flash cards. Does not appear to have any support.

**Developer response:** HI! Support is available through support@karteto.com. Between 22nd and 23rd we've had an outage with a 3rd party service that we rely on. It is now fixed. The outage didn't impact any flashcard history. Please contact support, so that we can figure out what happened in this case.

### 5/5 — Really great app

*2026-06-19, version 0.10.5*

Loving this app so far. Opportunity to build a deck to practice vocab is keeping me sharp! Love the design, works really well.

### 5/5 — Best flash card app

*2026-06-17*

Very well designed and intuitive app. I’m using it for Polish learning. You can create custom word lists and practice them in blocks by quickly removing words by swiping right and keeping words for re-practice by swiping left. App support is excellent, I had a question and they answered the same day. I highly recommend this app.

### 5/5 — (UPDATE) No articles for German words

*2026-05-25*

Below I rated the app before the articles in German were added, now that they have been added, I can safely say it’s the best flash card app for German, I love it!

————————————
I love this app and the idea of having that map of words to see progress. The fatal flaw is, there are no articles in the words for German vocabulary which makes it pretty much useless since German words must be learned with its article. If that is included in the next update, I’m pretty sure it would be a big change.

**Developer response:** The articles for German are coming soon. They already get added when you fully open the word information, soon they'll also be automatically added from Explore and Word Map.
If you see an improvement feel free to add the extra stars ;)

### 5/5 — Best vocab flashcards I’ve tried

*2026-02-25*

Finally a flashcard tool that feels useful and fun. Clean, simple, useful categories. And feel like I can progress at exactly the pace for me. I will be deleting all the other flashcard apps on my phone.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2025-12-21*

Love this app! Just one suggestion - I think it would be great if there was a simple way to archive words you’ve learnt so you can focus on the newest words instead of spending time going over all the ones you’re already familiar with

**Developer response:** Thank you!

To archive the word, just press "My terms", press the 3 dots next to the word you want to archive and then select "Mark as Learned"

### 5/5 — I really love this app

*2025-12-04*

Wow everything you could want in a language learning app. This is peak. Learned more in 5 minutes on this app than any other language learning style I’ve tried. Amazing job. My new favorite app

**Developer response:** Love this! Thank you so much!

### 5/5 — Memorizing

*2025-09-15*

Cards goes until memorized. Would be good if it could end in 3-5 attempts and repeat failed cards next day.
Next day retry shows better if card really remembered.
Confirming of card memorizing in a week and in a month would be most robust way to ensure proper learning.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much!
The spaced repetition algo we are using now does indeed return the words pretty quickly in the beginning, but after 5-7 repetitions it already moves to days.
We take this feedback and will introduce more customization for the time intervals in the future.

### 5/5 — This is a great app the only thing i would recommend is

*2025-08-28*

Please give users a fluency test when the download so they can see the words the already know instead of having to put them in

**Developer response:** Thank you for the idea! We'll get it done (just not super quickly as there are a lot of improvements we are already working on).

### 5/5 — The perfect trainer!

*2025-08-28*

I wish this app was developed long time ago! The way it helps ypu memorize the words, the circles of levels (A1-C1) is an innovative idea that would encourage you to complete each! The words you don‘t know in the circle you add it to the deck then leave the rest for the app! Not just once it shows you the word with voice pronounciation, but multiple times to make sure you remember it again…Great APP
