Just a lil warning that this game is pretty “old school”(aka not cool) in its treatment of mental illness, suicide, abortion and homelessness! Looks like it was released in 2016 but really kept with its 90’s setting in terms of attitude!
It was really fun to play but gee…

No Spoilers but...NEEDS huge TRIGGER WARNINGS for abortion, family trauma, adoption/neglect, suicide, mental health and Religious trauma; portrays all very well. Great game, definitely an "M" rating. GOOD MYSTEY & PUZZLES are easy enough by listening to Kathy. That said PLS THINK about whether the above issues REALLY bother you B4 BUYING/PLAYING!! 1) You play the whole game as Kathy and to progress you MUST confront said issues and deal with her inner "demons". That said the game does make u think about life itself..and you face moral dilemma, just as you do in "Whispers of the Machine" 2) .MUCH more enjoyable than Blackwell series, provides @ 6-7 hr game time if u want it to. Good acting and soundtrack adds a lot... wear earbuds!!! 3)All in all thanks to devs (again) for another thought provoking point and click game:) 4) Took one star off for the things mentioned for Trigger warning. You truly experience the essence of these situations and people should know that:) 5) Also..As another reviewer said... swearing is prevalent ( plenty of gd and fbombs so be careful round little ones:)

Eigentlich ein schönes Adventure. Es setzt auf längere Gespräche, die alle gut in Englisch synchronisiert und auf Deutsch untertitelt sind. Es beginnt somit ziemlich vielversprechend. Leider driftet es dann in viele Klischees ab und wird vorhersehbar. Immerhin sind die Rätsel weitgehend logisch, auch wenn hin und wieder dasselbe noch mal gemacht werden muss. Spielmechanisch hat es aber nette Ideen, wie der Notizzettel, der mögliche Gesprächsthemen vorgibt, sodass neue Gespräche mit bekannten Personen erneut wichtig werden können, wenn entsprechende Hinweise auftauchen. Auch die Orte sind schön gemacht und Laufwege erspart sich das Spiel durch die Mechanik mit dem Motorrad. Ich fahre also immer von Hotspot zu Hotspot statt durch Dutzende Bildschirme laufen zu müssen.

Doch so gut es am Anfang auch gefällt, am Ende wird es eben sehr klischeehaft und 08/15. Das Potenzial vom Beginn versickert und zur Mitte hin hatte ich eigentlich keine große Motivation mehr weiterzuspielen. Habe es zwar durchgespielt, aber gefesselt hat es mich lediglich am Anfang. Besonders die vielen Klischees nerven irgendwann nur noch.

Technisch ist das Spiel zudem unzulänglich. Kein Breitbild-Format, das iPhone wird heiß wie ein Toaster und der Akku geht schnell in Richtung null. Zudem ist die Steuerung grausam. Wirklich schlecht bis fast unmöglich zu bedienen! Wie das auf iPhone richtig geht, zeigen Geheimakte und Lost Horizon. Das hier ist kaum klickbar, so klein sind die Objekte.

Skandalös ist, dass der Entwickler/Publisher die Steuerung und das Bildformat nicht per Patch verbessert, sondern stattdessen jetzt einfach eine neue (kostenpflichtige) Version als Directors Cut verkauft. Das ist schon frech, wenn ein Spiel in diesem Zustand veröffentlicht wird. Zumindest Steuerung und Bildformat hätten behoben werden müssen. Wer als Erstkunde einen Patch will, soll nun demnach noch einmal zugreifen und Geld ausgeben.

Ich werde von dem Entwickler daher nichts mehr kaufen. Wenn ihr unbedingt wollt, kauft zumindest nicht diese Version, sondern den Directors Cut. Laut Beschreibung fixt der einige Probleme. Ob das wirklich so ist? Keine Ahnung. Unterstützen würde ich das Konzept persönlich nicht, dass auf Patches verzichtet wird und stattdessen eine neue Kaufversion veröffentlicht wird. Ich fühle mich als Käufer schlichtweg verarscht.

This was an absolute knockout. The story is compelling - a nice 90s throwback a la Twin Peaks and The X Files, creepy and atmospheric, but not to the point that I found it hard to play. The voice acting is excellent across the board, and the character design is fantastic. Kathy is so fun and relatable, but definitely not a Mary Sue. The puzzles were challenging, but not frustrating. I am PRAYING that there is a sequel coming!

Why not give us possibility to download directors cut? Do I really need to pay for the game again with small dlc? You keep updating and patching it when original version owners are left behind. Let early adopters download dlc for free or small fee.

I used to love this game. Now, the bugs make it extremely annoying to play. Every task is complete for day two but I can’t leave the manipulated message for Erica. The option for me to use my inventory isn’t even available. I won’t be playing again. Don’t waste your time with this game.

Game itself is great- have enjoyed playing it…but keep getting fatal crashes, freezes, or errors every few scenes.  Forces constant saving, restarting, and repeating puzzles which gets annoying.

Currently can’t make it past beginning of day 2 as working with the sound file on dorm room computer fatally crashes every time.

On day 1 everything had been done and yet wouldn’t allow me to go to the next day. Looked online for the walkthrough and it seemed I was right and had done all the steps, looked at everything, solved the puzzles, went to the correct locations exhausted all the dialog and so would never be able to go to the next day. Not great anyway to be honest but more annoying to waste time.

Ughh Apple made me buy this game multiple times, even though the App Store shared I should have been able to share with my family’s plan. Furthermore, multiple skips when the story needed to move forward made this unplayable and not a fun game. I tried to enjoy playing this on my own, problems with the interface led me to program walkthroughs and the glitches I experienced even after seeing how this game should behave led to my 1 star.

Am excited to move forward with this app, but we are stuck on Day 1 and can’t seem to advance.  Pretty sure we’ve found all the clues we’re supposed to find (have consulted multiple walk through to confirm) but the way to return to her dorm room never comes up - she can only go to Grandma’s, the cemetery, sherriff’s office or the Myers house- can’t figure out how to to get back to the dorm and start day 2.  It’s been almost a week, we have quit and started over a few times, help!

This is exactly the kids of game that I used to love in the 80s and 90s.  It was pretty tough and I had to look up a few of the answers, but I really enjoyed playing it, the old fashioned graphics were super and the plot was so perfect for the vibe of the game. I hope there are more of these! I actually got the recommendation from ChatGPT.

Avevo dato una valutazione molto bassa perché la prima parte del gioco mi sembra lentissima e poco attiva. In realtà l’ho ripreso ed è veramente bellissimo, se come me all’inizio vi trovate un po’ spaesati, resistete e aggiungete luoghi. Vi divertirete.

Kathy Rain besticht vor allem durch seine besondere Atmosphäre, die ähnlich wie bei David Lynch´s Twin Peaks an der Schwelle zwischen realer Detektiverzählung und bizarrer Anderswelt angesiedelt ist. Was als normale Ermittlung beginnt, erhält zunehmend bizarrere und düstere Züge und nimmt den Spieler derart gefangen, dass man das Spiel zum Ende hin gar nicht mehr aus der Hand legen möchte. Auch die (Haupt-)Charaktere sind gut konstruiert, haben Persönlichkeit und Hintergrund und können mit einigen zynischen, sarkastischen oder bissigen Kommentaren aufwarten, die auch bei der großen Menge an Dialogen keine Langeweile aufkommen lassen. Die Rätsel sind angemessen schwer, aber nicht unlösbar. Manchmal sind die Hinweise ein wenig sehr kryptisch, aber mit ein wenig Nachdenken und Probieren ist alles zu bewältigen. Ein echtes Highlight für Fans von düsteren Point&Click Adventures, die den Fokus vor allem auf die Handlung legen und den Erzählfluss nicht durch unnötige Quests behindern.
