## What is KavaCrawl?

KavaCrawl is a budget-first, data-driven guide for the kava community. It ranks bars, not people. There are no public profiles, no follower counts, and no popularity contests, just prices and value.

RANKED BY THE NUMBERS
Bars are ranked on price and value from real menu data. The best deal rises to the top, and nobody's opinion of themselves gets a vote.

COMPARE BARS SIDE BY SIDE
Put two bars next to each other and get a clear verdict on price and value.

PRICES, AND HOW OLD THEY ARE
Every bar page lists its menu and prices. Menus are refreshed weekly, and freshness labels show how current each price is. A number that has been sitting there a while is marked as one.

MAP OUT A CRAWL
Build a multi-stop crawl around your budget. See the route and travel time between stops, and get directions to each one.

KEEP THE DATA HONEST
Prices change without warning. Spot one that's off at your local bar? Send in a menu update so the next person has the real number.

FIND BARS WITHIN RANGE
Search around your location and filter by distance: 5, 10, 20, or 60 miles. The 60-mile setting is for the committed.

ASK BULA
Bula is a built-in AI assistant for kava questions. Ask about specials and deals, or reviews of spots near you.

WHERE TO BUY KAVA
Making your own at home? See nearby shops that sell kava.

YOUR LOCATION, YOUR CALL
Location is used to find bars near you. Nothing else is required to browse.

Made by kava drinkers, for kava drinkers. Bula.

### 1.4 — 2026-08-25

KavaCrawl now includes official news channels (announcements, jurisdiction watch, lab results, and the Bula Wire) keeping users updated on kava-related news, plus an updated channels experience and refreshed place detail view cards for browsing kava bars. Background geofencing now powers social check-in notifications when you enter a group's area, with a check-in sheet and adjustable on/off toggle. Menu pricing data gets automatic weekly OCR-powered refreshes for more accurate, up-to-date prices across tracked locations. Push notification and login flows (including Firebase-based password recovery) were also improved for smoother, more reliable access.

### 1.3 — 2026-07-18

This update is all about knowing what to expect before you walk in the door.

Typical Prices
Bar pages now show a Typical Prices section, so you can see what a shell, kratom tea, or specialty drink usually costs at each spot before you go.

Fresher, More Accurate Menus
Menus are now refreshed every week, and we fixed several pricing errors so what you see in the app matches what's on the board.

Official KavaCrawl Group
Join the new official KavaCrawl group for news, updates, and announcements straight from the team.

Better Notifications
Community notifications are now more reliable, so you won't miss new posts, events, or check-ins from your groups.

Thanks for crawling with us - see you at the kava bar!

### 1.2 — 2026-06-15

1. Dark mode check-in sheet fix
The check-in cards were rendering incorrectly in dark mode - colors were bleeding or not
adapting properly. Each app theme (green, ocean, etc.) now has properly paired light and
dark color variants, and the place cards were updated to use them correctly.

  2. Groups archive overhaul
A significant cleanup of the Community Groups feature:
  - Removed a bunch of redundant code from the community backend worker and service layer (cut
   ~160 lines down to ~96)
  - Tightened up the group detail and settings views
  - Fixed the archived groups list so it loads and displays properly
  - Minor fix to how new groups are created

  3. Bula AI API correction
A one-line fix to the Bula AI assistant tab - it was pointing at the wrong API endpoint, so
  queries weren't going through.

  4. Forgot password on the login screen
Added a "Forgot password?" link on the email sign-in form. Tapping it opens a sheet where
the user enters their email (pre-filled if they already typed it) and taps "Send Reset
Link." Firebase sends the reset email using your existing password reset template, and the
sheet transitions to a confirmation screen. The link only appears in sign-in mode, not
  sign-up mode.
