### 5/5 — Way better than Duolinguo

*2022-12-09, version 1.6.9*

In comparison to duolinguo, this app allows for a fast pace vocabulary learning which is so much more fun and stimulating. HIGHLY recommended for beginners who wants to learn Japanese but doesn't know where to start.

### 5/5 — This app is cute fun and educational

*2022-05-17*

Love it

### 5/5 — Cute and fun

*2022-02-18*

it’s essentially kana & vocab flash cards, wrapped in a very cute package with some RPG elements. the RPG elements lend well to learning, i think. while you help riko get stronger, you’re getting stronger too!

it also looks like it has a pretty good amount of content. the first two dungeons are pretty short, but there are 7 more after that with 28 lessons (plus two bosses) each. imo that’s gonna be well worth the price tag to get rid of ads.

### 5/5 — Fun way to learn

*2021-12-01*

If you really want to learn Japanese but have a hard time with other Japanese learning study material This could help you

It’s fun, and engaging, you always feel like your learning more and more every time you play

So give it a shot if you want to try learning Japanese in a simple yet fun way

### 5/5 — I give my recommendation.

*2021-11-08*

I have a hard time remembering hiragana katana and kanji after I learn them but on this app I actually remember them after playing, it is a video game style so you advice by beating people up while playing, it just a fun way to remember the characters.

### 5/5 — Pretty Good

*2021-10-23, version 1.4.1*

The design of this game is rather ingenious. Simple and easy to learn the mechanics and straightforward as can be. Quick to pick up, it’s quite like any other word game which says a lot, since the game actually contains Japanese lol.

The game to me is more like, “I’m playing the game and incidentally learning Japanese” more so than, “I’m playing the game to learn Japanese”. So for me, it’s quite fun. Try it out.

### 5/5 — LOVEEEE

*2021-10-18, version 1.4.1*

I downloaded this app 2 days ago and it’s so much fun. I tried out A LOT of apps but non of them were this good. I also watch the ads til the end because I want to support you guys as much as I can. <333

### 5/5 — Great app for learning Japanese

*2021-10-09, version 1.3.4*

I really like the app and the “game play”. It really helps with learning vocabulary/kanji and listening comprehension. I love the levels and boss fights and I hope that there are more to come (like all JLPT and additional vocabulary) It’s a nice thing that the app is completely free to use but you could buy gems or remove ads, but IMO that’s completely optional and you don’t have to buy it. I feel like the app is really underrated and not a lot of people know about it. Much love and I really appreciate the app and would 100% recommend it. Also it’s available in English, German, Spanish, Italian and French, so you don’t necessarily have to speak English to learn Japanese with this one.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2021-06-27, version 1.2.1*

With most other Japanese learning apps they are always slow and repetitive, but with kawaiiDungeon it feels like I know a lot and I do!

I recommend this to anyone who wants a fun battle themed app that with teach you Japanese quickly

### 5/5 — Game your way to success

*2021-06-03, version 1.1.1*

Want a fun way to learn Japanese? This is perfect.

I’ve always struggled learning as I have a relatively short attention span and a lack of ability to keep up with goals, however this game like way to learn it really sticks in my mind.

The game mechanics are quite simple, you get asked a question, get it right within a certain time period and you can defeat the evil villain. Alongside that, the currency earned after each battle allows you to upgrade your equipment or roll new ones.

Overall, if you’re a beginner at Japanese who, like me, has struggled with motivation then this way of learning is perfect.

### 4/5 — Doesn’t deserve the 1 stars

*2021-06-02*

I’ve only played through the beginning but the app is cute and educational! It’s style is similar to duo lingo except it gives a traditional gaming element to it.

If I get some spare time, I would be happy to sit through the app.

TLDR:

Simple + Cute
Works similarly to DuoLingo

### 1/5 — First App was great

*2023-01-23, version 1.7.6*

They made a great app really helping with learning but that one never got iPhone X and above screen size support. Now they created this game which isn’t bad on the first glance but is destroying itself by Being another of these games with loot boxes and inapp purchases. I’m still subscribed for the other game, definitely worth it tho.

### 1/5 — Hätte Potential

*2022-12-07, version 1.6.9*

Pure Scam, seid vorsichtig!

### 1/5 — I like it, but…

*2022-01-23*

I have to delete and re-download this app whenever I close out of it. It’s very frustrating.

### 1/5 — Incorrect Japanese

*2021-05-27*

I've already learned a lot of Japanese over the past 5 years, and can easily say that the Japanese in this app is not correct in many instances. The pronunciation is all over the place and often incorrect, and some of the words are just plain wrong. If you are trying to learn Japanese, do NOT use this app.

**Developer response:** Hi Darkstarzoom9, our Japanese vocabulary are all recorded by a native Japanese VA, so you can be sure that the pronunciation is correct. When you see words that you think are wrong, please let us know through the in-app contact form, so we can assist you with that!

### 1/5 — Not as great as expected

*2021-05-24*

Self explanatory

### 3/5 — Confused, sort of good though?

*2024-12-08*

I like this game a lot , but I think they should think of a new way to have you pay. The weapons are confusing. I’d rather pay $10 and not have to worry about upgrading things that I barely understand.

They make the bad guys hard to beat because they want you to upgrade. It’s just not the right move I think for charging money.

### 3/5 — Cool vocab learning app but…

*2021-12-25, version 1.5*

The app keeps crashing while launching. At the beginning it launche eventually, but the last couple days I wasn’t able to open the app at all anymore (Iphone 12/ IOS 15.2)

### 4/5 — very helpful

*2024-08-16*

small suggestion. it would be useful if the player can see what weapon the enemy will be using on each level before starting, so we can equip the stronger weapon too. i find myself just using the magic ball for the neutral damage and not trying anything else in case i pick wrong

### 4/5 — Good overall

*2021-07-23*

It’s decent overall, but I don’t like it as much as their other game Kawaii Nihongo. I’d rather they’d focus their efforts on releasing more levels on there. That game was genius.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Amazing but dangerous ad

*2025-12-15, version 2.5.6*

The app is really good and I don’t think they manually choose the adds inserted into the game but one of them tried to pass itself as discord to steal my credentials 😱. Please dev fix that!

### 5/5 — Love this game!

*2025-08-21*

I find it hard to keep up on daily Japanese practice, especially when it has a streak kind of thing like duolingo, but this kawaiiDungeon keeps it fun and interesting. The daily quests are engaging, the wording and rewards keeping it from feeling like a hassle or chore, but something to earn or complete.
One thing I would like to suggest or see done is to have a way to buy fox fires or other supplies to upgrade your weapons because it’s gotten to the point where I get more coins and star fragments than anything else and would like to be able to upgrade my supplies. I’d also like a guidebook on how you max out your weapons.

### 5/5 — Nice

*2024-11-07, version 2.5.6*

Nice for learning!

### 5/5 — Fun way to learn Japanese

*2024-08-20*

I love the game and the story line and the ability to learn Japanese all the while.ありがとうございます　😊

### 5/5 — very helpful

*2024-08-16*

editing my review as i noticed i was overlooking the solution to my problem. i use this app every day and my japanese is getting a lot better! i recommend also using kawaii nihongo alongside this for best results

### 5/5 — Language learning

*2024-08-02, version 2.5*

I like this learning app. It helps you learn lots of words. I’m learning Japanese on here.

### 5/5 — amazing game 1 suggestion

*2024-07-07*

amazing game
only suggestion is that in player vs player please make it so if you both get the answer right then only the fastest will be able to hit or will do a little more damage so that its more who understands material better 🙏🧛🏻🧛🏻

### 5/5 — Vocabulary

*2024-04-07*

I’ve tried Japanese vocabulary words and it tajes too long to learn them, but in here you can learn like 5 vocabulary just in just 2 minutes, it’s actually a good app ngl unless there are alternatives

### 5/5 — Cooler Kampfspaß

*2023-11-01, version 2.0*

Mir gefällt das Game-Lerning.
Die Extra-Sachen und Werbung ist verkraftbar.

### 5/5 — Great Game

*2023-04-15, version 1.7.6*

This is a great game. I came here to learn, and I stayed here for the fox girl telling me that she is proud of me. Thank you developers, for giving my life meaning.
