However, since the last update, I found a couple of bugs. 1. I cannot connect to help through the chat box. It keeps saying “Something went wrong. Please try again later.” 2. In the lesson for “Too Much”, two sentences are switched around. ### 3/5 — Voice recognition problems *2025-12-07, version 4.0.9* A fun and engaging program. It is very much helping me learn Japanese, however, the voice recognition consistently does not work. It is not helping me pronounce the various kana. And if I’m slightly off it is not offering any way to correct it. This is a very discouraging flaw. For basic vocab and characters. Other than that I don’t think it does a very good job in teaching people Japanese. It misses important things (like adding 〜さん after a name) and the vocabulary and sentence structuring is very robotic once you get past basic x は y です。 I love the concept, truly, but as someone who has studied Japanese for a while and used this app as a fun refresher I would not recommend it to a beginner. ### 3/5 — Unknown badge notifications *2025-05-25, version 4.0.9* The icon shows a badge notification, but I can’t find anything in the app about what this notification is or how to remove it. Plz fix it ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — This app is not very helpful *2026-04-26, version 4.0.9* There are free resources out there that are much more helpful. I have 2 main complaints about this app. First, there is absolutely no point in playing an audio prompt then asking how to write that in romaji. That’s literally just English. Second, on the questions where you need to type your answer, you type using the English keyboard and the app automatically converts it to hiragana. But then it marks it incorrect because you didn’t use kanji. But the app doesn’t give you a way to insert the kanji. You need to download the Japanese keyboard onto your phone from the Settings app in order to type kanji (granted, you should do that anyway if you’re learning Japanese). But even then, these beginner level questions are requiring you to have already learned a lot of kanji. ### 1/5 — WARNING - *2026-04-09, version 4.0.9* DO NOT SPEND THE MONEY!! It does not actually explain grammar or anything. And if you ask questions it shuts off the reporting feature. It makes you figure things out. I saw a review that has a very similar problem. They have the same iPhone as me (iPhone 8+) and every time I open the app it asks me what language I speak and then I hear the background music start to glitch and then I’m kicked out from the app. I’m really disappointed because it looks like such a fun game and can help me continue learning and brushing up on my Japanese like I’ve been needing. But as soon as I found what I’ve been looking for, it has bugs. So unfortunate. Great concept but the app is defective. Developers please follow up with a bug fix, response or solution to this problem because I would be extremely happy to play your game. ### 1/5 — App no longer working. *2024-06-04, version 3.12.3* Decided to give the app another go after quite some time. They made a change I didn’t like, but as I can’t remember what it was (I do remember it was quite a big change) I decided to try again. I have kept the app up to date & the App Store says it runs on this iPad (mini 5), but the app starts to load but then crashes before it fully loads, so within less than 5secs. Went to the “App Support” link on the App Store but it didn’t take me anywhere to get support. Just a basic website with a couple of reviews & links to download the app on Apple or Google or go to their store. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — So far so good ! *2026-08-15, version 4.0.9* I really like this app, it really helps you stay interested and focused with its creative game set up, almost like a real class. I super recommend this app if you want to learn, it’s well organized and treats you like a real student as you climb up the ranks. I just wish it gave us control to go over the specific assignments we still have trouble in. It does seem to give you an option to go over your mistakes but only when you pay for the premium, which I don’t mind I’ll find another way to go over the mistakes, but if that was free it would’ve been perfect. Nonetheless really well made app 👏👏👏 ### 5/5 — Best in class *2026-04-17, version 4.0.9* By far the best language learning app we have ever played. Cute, and very thorough. Good pacing and retention is also really good. Well worth turning off the ads for. Only complaint is I’d like another chapter of the story. It’s very useful for studying! It follows a learning path similar to most textbooks which makes it a great way to get some extra practice in if you keep pace with whatever textbook you’re using. Additionally, it’s a great way to review things you’ve already learned. I love that it’s grammar heavy, teaches kanji, and provides voice audio and pictures to help you really grasp everything Please continuing to update this app! It really helped me learn the basics like hiragana and katakana before I started Japanese classes in high school. I feel like it gave me a really good foundation to succeed in those classes because we learnt the topics in a similar order. I don’t think I’d be where I am today in my language learning journey if it wasn’t for this app, I’m truly grateful. It has been lovely to see the app grow and get polished over the years and I try to recommend it to all beginner learners.
