## What is Kawari?

Colorful logos, seals, marketing promises, tiny fine print: packaging tells you everything except what you actually want to know. Whether a product fits your diet or contains an allergen is impossible to tell at a glance on the shelf. Kawari shows you both: not just whether, but also why.

Informed. Not influenced.

You set up your rules once. With every scan, Kawari automatically checks whether a product is right for you. And wherever an ingredient is the reason, you see it marked right in the ingredient list.

### 5/5 — Empfehlenswert

*2026-07-05*

Klare Empfehlung!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.0 — 2026-08-10

This update answers the question that really matters in the aisle: why?

• Ingredient highlighting: Kawari marks the ingredients relevant to your rules right in the ingredient list, with support for all 14 EU allergens. Tap an ingredient, read the explanation.
• Rule results explained: a tap on the info icon shows the data source and the concrete triggers behind the verdict.
• Clearer rule titles: every rule has the same name everywhere, with the result spelled out in words below it.
• Improved allergen detection: more accurate matches, more cautious all-clears, more precise trace wording, more products covered.
• Additive badges in the product detail are linked to the lexicon: tap one to open its explanation right there in a sheet.
• FAQ expanded significantly: new articles on number mode, camera features, sharing a product, the additive filter, the E number lexicon, Open Food Facts, adding a product and correcting data. Several articles corrected for accuracy.
• Product detail: the back button now floats bottom right and fades out subtly while you scroll.
• Fixed: a layout glitch on the scan screen on certain iPhone models, the scan frame now sits right on every device.
• Fixed: database updates now take effect immediately after downloading, and the update notice disappears reliably.
• Smaller improvements in the filter and while scanning.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-07-03

This version is all about additives: a complete E number lexicon to look things up, plus a new way to scan barcodes even when they're unreadable.

• Number scan mode: reads the EAN digits under the barcode when the barcode itself isn't readable or is missing.
• New additive lexicon: every E number with a short description, origin, example and concerns, all backed by sources. Find it under More.
• Info tips in the filter explain every additive category.
• Allergens even more precise: free-from claims in the ingredient list now count, and traces appear in red when a matching rule is active.
• Swipe to save now shows your saved list status right away.
• Easier on your battery and data.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-06-16

This time an update for your wrist: a better camera while scanning, clearer
reasons and product data in your language.

• Optical zoom and light control as buttons in the Scan tab.
• Macro lens for close-up scans at the label.
• The reason and the highlight in the ingredient list now line up, with the
ingredient named as it appears on the packaging.
• Product data in your app language and matched to your shopping country.
• Power usage optimised: easy on the battery, keeps your phone cool.
• Terms of service and privacy policy translated into all 10 app languages.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-06-12

More safety, more languages, more countries.

• Additive filter: ten categories based on the EU regulation, from colours through phosphates to preservatives, or one specific E number. You decide what Kawari watches out for when you scan.
• More reliable additive detection: Kawari now also catches an additive when it appears only in the ingredient text, as a functional class (e.g. “emulsifier (lecithin)”) or by name (e.g. “curing salt with nitrite”, “diphosphates”, “aspartame”). Instead of a false green tick, you see a yellow highlight on the relevant spot in the ingredient list.
• E numbers you have personally blocked are also detected when the ingredient list names them only by name.
• More safety with allergens: if a product is missing its allergen information, Kawari now also reads the ingredient list and still warns you. This works even for products in other languages.
• Gluten-free labels are recognised: if a product carries a verified gluten-free seal, the gluten-free filter shows green.
• Clearer notices when data is missing: you now see a separate “unclear” message per allergen instead of one general one.
• Palm oil is also detected from the ingredient list when the product data gives no palm oil status.
• More precise reason: if a product is flagged, Kawari now names the specific ingredient responsible, in your language (for example “gelatine”).
• More accurate organic detection: products labelled “non-organic” are no longer shown as organic by mistake.
• More cautious when data is missing: if no ingredient list is available, we show “unclear” instead of a green confirmation, and that per additive category.
• More privacy: the vegan check now runs entirely on data from Open Food Facts. No third-party service is involved anymore.
• Products are shown in the right language, even when only a field in a foreign language is available.
• Product database updated: more products, better recognition of Swedish and Norwegian ingredient lists, more accurate Nutri-Scores for prepared products.
• Six new languages: Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish.
• Many new countries: from France, Italy and Spain through the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, the United Kingdom and Ireland to Scandinavia, the USA and Canada.
• Tidier product page, smaller bugfixes and various design corrections.

### 1.1 — 2026-05-26

NEW
• Product cards with new layout and colour-coded status badge
• Scan sheet: tab bar slides away on expand, action buttons appear
• Scan sheet: status pills show product count per result colour
