### 4/5 — Memories

*2024-12-11, version 6.0.2*

This takes me back to some good times in my teens (I’m 57 now!) playing this for hours on my Commodore 64. It’s good on the app but one issue, I don’t get the pictures of the trophies on my iPhone 15. Any ideas?

### 4/5 — Good game

*2024-04-07*

The game is fun to watch and play. I love how simple it is manage your team and add new players into your squad. Something I want to see more are more heightened shots in the highlights. In the goals scored in the highlights, the ball is always glued to the ground, so I would love to see shots with height. In addition, it would be nice to see actual goal or net physics in the game. Moreover, another thing to add are pitch designs and stadium customization to add a level of creativity to the game. Thank You for your time for reading this. May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you. Have an amazing day.

### 4/5 — Blast from the past

*2023-06-23, version 5.0.5*

I’ve always loved this game, so basic and straightforward. Taken BCFC to the top flight to find I need £328m to buy a defender! Just got the sack for sending the club bankrupt. Not sure why players cost that much to buy? A glitch perhaps?

### 5/5 — Wow

*2022-01-27, version 5.0.5*

Amazing blast from the past, this is where it all started… it’s an amazing trip down memory lane and makes me feel like 8 again.
More please 👍

### 5/5 — Great rewrite of a Classic!

*2022-01-15, version 5.0.5*

Great game. Hours of fun, and true to the 80’s classic I used to ply on the old Spectrum. Kept me very busy over Christmas!

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2021-03-16, version 5.0.5*

Spent countless hours in my teens playing this.
Now spending countless hours in my 50s lol

### 5/5 — Since 1984

*2021-03-14*

I played this game in 1984 for the first time... It was released in 1982... In ZX Spectrum 16kb

Wonderful and very simple Soccer Manager game ...👏🏽👍🏽😍

### 5/5 — Back to the simple 80s

*2021-03-13, version 4.0.2*

Instantly back to the 80s. Still as addictive if not a little easier. Given the years of experience (:

Be cool if results of other fixtures could be voice read out. Like how it was done on world of sport / grandstand.??

### 5/5 — KT FM

*2021-02-08, version 4.0.2*

Just got this classic game.. brings back hours of my youth.. brilliant 👍👍

### 5/5 — Matt Phillips

*2021-01-01, version 4.0.2*

Quality game from the 80s. Loved it then and love it now, change club and player names, all good!

### 5/5 — My divorce is imminent

*2021-01-01, version 4.0.2*

What can I say, a true to life port of a game that was hugely important in my young life. After playing CP2077 and then playing this, it’s obvious that you don’t need a next generation console, a gaming rig or £1000s to enjoy a game that will take you in a journey. It’s as good now (if not better) than it was, best of all no 10 minute loading from tape and being able to play anytime, anyplace. I’ve put in on my iphone and iPad and believe it will also play on my M1 Mac mini. My life is now complete.
The wife is suitably unimpressed. Kevin Tom may be named in the forthcoming divorce lol.
Seriously, if you’re looking at this game it’s probably because in your distant, pre mortgage and kids life, you played this on the Spectrum, Atari 800xl, C64 , CPC, BBC Micro or similar and are wondering if it is as good as you remember? Yes it is and best of all the price isn’t that bad (recall it being £2.99 back in the 80s). Anyway, just buy it. Spend 10 minutes going “yeah it’s ok “, then an hour thinking “this is good”, then give up sleep, relationships, food etc as it slowly takes over your life.
Thank you Kevin for ruining my life. “COYI”. :)

### 4/5 — Great memories

*2020-12-28, version 4.0.2*

Great memories from back in the day as a zx spectrum owner. But after paying £4.99 gutted that Sunderland were not among the teams

### 5/5 — Brilliant game

*2020-08-20, version 4.0.2*

Easy to play and addictive, I have a question. How can you buy the plus features button and is there a tutorial

### 5/5 — Brilliance Returns

*2020-08-01*

No football game you play right now would exist without this. This was the catalyst. The first immersive game on a computer ever. If you think the current Football Manager game is detailed and comprehensive, there is only one reason. Kevin Toms. We had to make all that tactical stuff up in our heads. We had to imagine, but Kevin Toms gave us the platform upon which to use our imaginations. And he gave us every management simulation you play today. Everything.

### 5/5 — Takes me back

*2020-07-31*

A fantastic modern day version of an 80’s classic ZX Spectrum game. Takes me back to when I was a kid. So much better than football games today where it takes you months to get through a season. This is a perfect pick up and play even when only got 5 mins, play a few games and then continue where you left off later 😊

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Just terrible

*2025-09-04*

This lacks all the charm of the original and offers nothing in return. Quick overview: it’s easier and more fun to play the original. Longer rant: Interface is appalling, when there’s a goal it shows the time (Kevin said in an interview he didn’t include the time originally to add to the suspense - this takes it all away), removing and selecting players is fiddly and rubbish, the font is rubbish, the main menu is rubbish, etc. This game could have been so good, but it’s emphatically not. I’m not sure where the love is coming from; it doesn’t even invoke nostalgia it’s so weird and different from the original.

**Developer response:** I respect your opinion and sorry to hear that it was not what you were looking for. The interface and look is meant to be retro, it is not modern, it is functional. I will explain the timer point. The game doesn't show a continuous "How much time is left" - that is the important point to maintain uncertainty. Showing the time of an actual goal, still does not indicate how many attacks are possible in the remaining time, the uncertainty remains.

### 1/5 — Review

*2020-09-19, version 4.0.2*

I remember playing this back in the day but this is a truly terrible remake. Waste of money

### 1/5 — Rubbish

*2020-07-27, version 4.0.2*

Don’t bother waste of money

### 1/5 — Awful

*2020-03-25, version 3.1.1*

God knows how this hit so many good reviews, it’s awful and the biggest waste of £2.99 on here. Don’t be fooled by the romance of playing the old game like I did, keep ya money because this game is terrible.

### 1/5 — Poor

*2019-10-03, version 3.1.1*

Boring game not worth downloading if it was free

### 2/5 — So disappointing.

*2025-01-19*

I really wanted to love this, I spent so many hours on the Spectrum playing the original FM in the 80’s that perhaps, my hopes were set too high.

Playing on the iPad the first thing I noticed was there are four divisions of only 16 teams, and you only play each team once. This makes the seasons really short.
There isn’t a fixture list, you can’t see what round of the cup you’re playing in, you can’t see the whole squad on one page as everything is double line spaced. Further, you can buy 5* players for a few quid whilst in div 4 but once you’re in div 1 they cost 10 times as much.
I know this game replicated much of the original but there was an opportunity to make so many little improvements that weren’t taken and fundamentally the game is not challenging enough to hold your attention.
On level 4 difficulty I’d won the first division and both cups in my 4th season and then just stopped playing. Is there any point starting again at a higher difficulty level? I doubt it, if anything it just means that I’ll lose more games against obviously weaker opposition.

It’s just such a missed opportunity.

**Developer response:** Unfortunately the things you are not liking are the things I was asked to create. People wanted me to faithfully reproduce my original and many people love it for the similarity and game play. I discussed with players about adding new features and they asked me to leave it alone.
So, I separately created a new game, Football Game 2, which is also available, and which allows me to evolve the game from its retro roots step by step.
The star ratings of players are related to the division you are in. The difficulty increases with every skill level. At 4 it is moderate, there are 3 more to go. But the point with difficulty is the game is designed to allow people to choose the difficulty, or challenge they prefer.

### 3/5 — How to report a bug

*2025-08-20, version 6.0.2*

I just bought this and found a bug, how do I get it to you?

### 3/5 — Ok

*2020-10-22, version 4.0.2*

Ok after hic cups in first season when I had no transfers, reloaded and played again and this time was offered players

### 3/5 — Nostalgic fun but.....

*2019-10-31, version 3.1.1*

Very excited to see this as bought back great memories of my teens playing into the early hours on my spectrum.

However, would like attendances as per original game as these went up and down according to league position and effected your finances. Kevin can you please port this in. Also please make the highlights a bit shorter for speed.

### 3/5 — Fun for a while

*2018-02-27*

I’ve had the game about a week and it’s been great fun see my team start from Division 4 and climb to top division and lift European cup and other cup along the way.

But when you reach top division l, I found the game started to lose appeal.

Also, while I accept the game on iPhone is to replicate the original. It has also exposed the flaws of the original and I would hope improvements are made.

Eg you can still win a game without a goalkeeper (unrealistic). You can still have much higher stats than an opponent but still get hammered.

It glitches occasionally. It also has the iPhone camera flash up in bottom right hand corner of screen for no apparent reason.

It could do with a timer while showing highlights. Also corners and pens would enhance viewing experience. And maybe a half time chance to make subs.

It doesn’t tell you which round of cup you are through too.

You can run out of money but still carry on playing, making losses each week but not getting into debt.

Edit : thanks for the response Kevin. I didn’t mean to be too critical. I think it’s a great game. I was merely trying to offer suggestions where I felt the game would benefit.

I would be interested if you made a companion app -which had more features and improvements. While I commend u for staying true to the original, I can’t help but feel (just like the game itself as moved on in the subsequent 35 years), that an enhancement here or there wouldn’t go amiss.

**Developer response:** Hi Well firstly the game is always in steady improvement, but I wonder if you just played it on the basic skill level. There are seven skill levels. I have people playing hundreds of seasons. You are not correct about the goalkeeper, if you get yourself in that position one of the defenders is the goalkeeper and less effective. Hence your defence is weakened as it says. Bear in mind this is a by request from the public, renewal of the original game. I am not going to turn it into a different game, I can tell you many fans of the game want me to leave it as untouched as possible. The camera icon popping up is a minor remnant of a feature of capturing screenshots. This is still present on other platforms but Apple removed the API I was using. I must have missed removing one icon. No, I will not add a timer to the highlights. This is something I discussed with many players, it is not in the original. Nor were corners penalties etc. Along with half time and subs. Again you are talking about making a new game, I have discussed this with players and that is something I can do, I may well do, but not change this game, which has a lot of happy memories linked to it for players. You cannot run out of money but not get into debt. The debt is added and you can go bankrupt, which happens often.
So all in all, if it is not what you want, I am sorry, but it is keeping thousands of people very happy playing hundreds of seasons. The simplicity is a big plus to them. The pick up and easy play without complex decisions is the key. Edit: Yes, but that was what I was trying to communicate. There are thousands of players and I have had discussions with them about enhancing the game. The overriding response is that the faithfulness to the original must NOT be harmed. It is a retro- rewrite. It's not that I cannot do changes it is that I must not, for the support of the majority of players. The only way is a second app, which is where you are leading and that is the consensus with existing players of this re--creation. So I will not be changing this significantly for that reason. The years and players memories and nostalgia, are the reason, not the problem or lack of creativity for me!

### 5/5 — Age 14 again

*2026-05-15*

Proper funny how I still love this, keeping it real to the original and the basic principles really does mean I’m reliving my youth. At 52 you’d think (as my wife tells me) I’d be too old for ‘games’
My response “This isn’t a game, it’s more important than that” as I grab my first skill 3 transfer midfielder….i needed him! KT is clearly capable of updating or improving the original but the class in keeping the basics of the original mean I can stick some earphones in and hopefully get what will be a strategic, well earned promotion 🤞🏻

### 5/5 — Chris

Football Manager

### 5/5 — Superb game.

*2026-01-30, version 6.2.37*

Great game from the master of football management games. This really brings back memories and its just as addictive as the original. Bargain price too. Kevin Toms is a legend.

### 5/5 — Great Game

*2025-09-28*

Really enjoyable but after playing for 20 seasons the transfer market becomes impossible. I have £1000m in the bank but virtually NO 5 star players become available any more. Mainly 1 and 2 star players with the odd 5 star keeper. Please put a fix in place to ensure that transfer market is realistic especially after investing time over 20 seasons. Brilliant game though. My thanks Kevin

**Developer response:** I am glad you are enjoying the game. About the transfer market there is no fixed reason that you would only get 1 or 2 star players. But chance can happen. I have had it happen for a full season then it changed.
I will look into it to see if there is a bug though.
You can further discuss with me using the support email support@kevintoms.atlassian.net

### 5/5 — Excellent apart from.

*2024-09-12*

I feel like I’m 10 years old again playing this.. only discovered it yesterday.. amazing.. only downside maybe is.. only 1 transfer player to look at per week.. no full transfer market to look at.. I love and remember that it’s so basic.. without this game .. the others wouldn’t exist.. Kevin toms take a massive bow..you well and truly deserve it sir.. thank you for taking me back 🥰

### 5/5 — Serious bug on recent release

*2024-07-06, version 6.0.2*

An excellent so 5 stars, however the latest release seem to have made it unplayable. Sat on a train and had to quit it before i can get 3 games in!

### 5/5 — Best Football Manager Game Ever!

*2023-12-16*

This game is just genius. Brilliant fun and so addictive (under which the original game was released) without taking hours and hours assessing player ratings, squad depth, pitch metrics… blah blah yawn. Select a team and you’re good to go. Players have age, skill and fitness ratings. Pick the best team based on those and off you go. Buy new players (or not) , sell the others, random injuries and a whole load of teams and player names that will ring a memory bell with older fans. Highlights are simple yet exciting. This was how it was kids! Thank you Mr Toms for resurrecting this classic for the modern age but no thanks for probably costing me at least 3 ‘O’ levels back in the 80s playing this instead of revising 🤣

**Developer response:** You are welcome, and fast and fun, was my intention in re-creating it!

### 5/5 — Great game with 1 issue

*2023-09-17, version 5.0.5*

Both my goalkeepers got injured so I couldn’t continue playing the game. I had to start again from scratch.

### 5/5 — THE original that started it all

*2023-08-23, version 5.0.5*

Classic game just how I remember it from all those years ago. Simply brilliant

### 5/5 — An addictive game of football management

*2023-07-21*

I’ve taken my team from Division 4 to the top. This game provides hours of entertainment in what seems like minutes. Easy to save so can play on my phone anywhere at anytime. Also a full retro experience (or new experience).
