I love this app. Highly recommend it, it’s especially been a game changer for my mornings. I do have two concerns: - If I leave the house and my connection switches from WiFi to cell the music is often interrupted with the intro message meant to play when first connecting. This is a huge bummer when I’m really in rocking out to the music. - I suspect this app might be eating battery a little bit (I have not narrowed this app down to the cause, but there’s a strong correlation) ### 4/5 — Great Station but Buggy App *2026-04-07, version 4.4.2* KEXP is obviously the most amazing station out there, but the app as of late will stop playing for me when I exit the app… Kinda makes listening to music while doing other tasks challenging because I have to keep the screen on and the app front and center. ### 2/5 — Interruptions with talk and ads *2026-03-01, version 4.4.2* Most of my listening experience are limited to windows of 15 minutes. As I drive in errands. I have tracked the amount of DJ talk and ads. It’s about 50% of the time. Why do I care that ‘Michael in Santa Clara is listening’ and on and on. Then they talk over the music like 1970s AM radio. KEXP where the music used to matter is now KEXP where the DJs ego matters. ### 3/5 — Stopping problem *2025-09-30, version 4.3.1* For the past few weeks the app has consistently just stopped for no reason and I’ve hit a point where I’ll need to go somewhere else to listen to music via my phone on commute. Hoping it can be fixed soon! For now I’ll still be tuning in via car radio when I can. ### 3/5 — Great station, lousy interuptions *2025-09-18, version 4.3.0* Great station. Great music. Great DJs. Love everything except the annoying ads/promos played OVER the music randomly in the app. It’s very annoying. Also it would be nice to play the archived shows for a day instead of only by show. The special day themes are great and would be nice to hear again as broadcast. (the old app could play shows by day) Overall KEXP and app are great. Just please fix the small things :-) ### 3/5 — What No Smart TV *2025-08-18, version 4.2.0* …wish could have the app on my tv for my Bose entertainment system mann ### 2/5 — Best music, but new app deleted several years of favorites *2025-08-05, version 4.1.0* I upgraded to the new app. When I did, many years of favorited songs vanished. Maybe I missed a subtle warning somewhere? Saving favorite songs is/was the only thing a listener could keep or customize for themselves. It was a big blow to lose that history. ### 4/5 — iOS app has more features but the macOS app gets the job done *2025-05-28, version 4.0.1* KEXP is awesome and the new iOS app is fantastic. The macOS app doesn’t have all the same bells and whistles but for the basic task of listening to live radio with track listing it’s got you covered! One quirk I hope developers might fix. This app lets you pause and continue to play from the same location you paused. I sometimes find myself hours behind what is live and reflected as the current track. There are two small UI changes that could dramatically improve this experience: (1) a “Go Live” option that re-syncs with the track listing and what is currently on air AND (2) a mechanism to know which track is playing when you are not listening live (i.e. showing the track in the history in a different color maybe). Absent these features, it can be a bit difficult to know what you are listening to is not live and find the right track id….even closing and reopening the app the usual mac way won’t necessarily correct your position in the stream, requiring a user to kill a “Runner” app that is spawned in the background to get back to live music. ### 3/5 — not as intuitive *2025-05-13, version 4.0.1* The new kexp app is not as intuitive and much clunkier than prior versions. ### 2/5 — Three iterations and it’s still trash *2025-05-03, version 4.0.0* Doesn’t consistently start. Access to archives? Links to the songs as they're played? KEXP has been my WFH companion for years and the app is almost perfect. My only critique: there's no option for Landscape mode for iPad users! ### 3/5 — Please fix the display area *2025-01-14, version 3.19.4* Very frustrated that after several years of requesting this fix, the developers have yet to address the inability of the user to view the standard info icons in the upper corners of the iPhone display. The KEXP app covers these areas. Please fix. ### 3/5 — Advert *2024-11-13, version 3.19.4* I would listen to this religiously if it didn’t come out with that advert ‘every’ time I hit play. If they wanted to put it in between shows I’d get it, but it’s bad user experience this way round. For example, when you turn on the car radio it doesn’t play the ‘same’ advert every time… no other music related app does this, definitely something to consider changing… ### 3/5 — Great Content, but Buggy *2024-11-10, version 3.19.4* I love the content on KEXP, and for that reason am a heavy user of the streaming archive. However, I’ve recently (over the past couple weeks) experienced pervasive bugs with streaming. Case in Point: I queued up DJ Miss Ashley’s Sunday show just now. When it first started, it was just constant silence. So I clicked on the “jump to time” feature, and it displayed 2:55 (instead of 12:00). So I moved it back to 12:00… nothing. After queuing up another show and then retrying, it now says I’m listening to DJ Miss Ashley @ 12:00, but I’m in fact listening to the beginning of The Roadhouse. Please help! 🙏🏼 Until this is fixed, I’m going to have to give up on the App 😢 ### 2/5 — IOS Version Issues *2024-09-29, version 3.19.4* The IOS version of the app seems to have gone downhill. I have major issues trying to play shows in the archive. I finally gave up and started streaming via a browser on my iPhone. Very frustrating. ### 2/5 — Love KEXP *2024-05-30, version 3.18.3* This app is a bit silly. The app randomly goes into commercials in the middle of a song. Super annoying. I stopped using the app as often. It ruins the experience. ### 2/5 — Support Landscape Mode PLEASE! *2024-05-06, version 3.18.3* Just barely better than using the iHeart Radio App. Not allowing landscape mode however, makes it unusable on my iPad. ### 4/5 — Looove KEXP! But app stops playing music ): *2024-04-08, version 3.18.0* App stops playing music as soon as my screen shuts. So I can only listen while the app is open on my screen and my phone screen is on. Not sure if there is a workaround :/ Regardless, I LOVE KEXP ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Stops after a minute or two *2025-09-22, version 4.3.0* Tried using it a few months ago but it stops playing after about two minutes. Tried again just now and the same results. ### 1/5 — Pretty, but fails *2025-09-21, version 4.3.0* Earlier versions of this app were more reliable. This one stops streaming, then plays opening announcements again… and again. I feel like kexp needs to get serious about their app. My streaming has decreased significantly because of the inconsistency and I’m sure there are others. The KUTX app sounds better and never cuts out. Call the KUTX people for guidance and stop allowing whoever is responsible for this app to continue ruining the listener experience. ### 1/5 — New app, Same problems *2025-09-01, version 4.2.0* The greatest radio station on earth deserves an app that doesn’t lag, cut out, and always restart with an ad. Full bars, full wifi, still cuts out. ### 1/5 — Request to add a common feature *2024-02-21, version 3.17.0* When using this app on the iPad the app orientation doesn’t rotate when you turn the iPad sideways. Is there a reason why this is not a feature in the app? my iPad is not set to rotation lock so I know that the app doesn’t support this. This seems like an oversight because most apps support screen rotation nowadays. ### 1/5 — Love KEXP, but… *2023-01-15, version 3.12.1* No landscape = 1 star. It doesn’t matter how great the app may be otherwise- there’s no excuse for not allowing landscape in this day and age. I never use my iPad in portrait. ### 1/5 — Constant Issues *2022-11-08, version 3.12.0* Love the station and am annoyed with the app. I have to delete and download regularly. Why? Well today I have a blank screen when I went to listen to an archived show. Headers are there but nothing else populates (not the first time I’ve had this issue). I’ve also had to reinstall because it just stops streaming (had this happen more than once). Rebooting my phone does not resolve either of these issues, deleting the app and reinstalling does. ### 1/5 — WHY *2022-08-18, version 3.11.1* I never want to use this app because it takes five minutes to load and then I’m held hostage by an ad so when this app accidentally shuts down I have to go through this process all over again, missing whatever the DJ is saying or the song I was getting into. If you live in Seattle just use the radio or download a different radio app. ### 1/5 — Bad Info *2022-07-23, version 3.11.1* Well, it mostly plays the music. But the “now playing” display and playlist is always about a half hour off. Feels like one step fwd and one back with every update. Mostly use it for playing the streaming archive. Whatever changed about a month ago makes the app completely useless for this use. Moved back to using the web-based streaming archive player. Not perfect but reliable. Please reduce the fast forward time to 30 second increments. 5 minute skips is way too much. If I don’t want to listen to a song then I’ll end up landing halfway through the next song or past it. 30 seconds gives me way more control.
