  top, the article photo fills the width and fades smoothly into the background,
  with a clean headline, summary, and clearly labelled buttons below.
- **Whole picture, no awkward cropping** — article photos now keep their full
  width; only a thin sliver of the top/bottom is trimmed.
- **Smoother swiping** — moving between stories now cross-fades gently instead of
  jumping, and feels noticeably lighter and faster.
- **Loading indicator** — a subtle spinner shows while a slower image loads,
  instead of a blank box.
- **iPad** — the new design now applies on iPad too, centred in a comfortable
  reading column.
