But I’ve seen other reviews from teens and kids that look very immature, so I’m going. To try to keep this as mature as possible. Qustodio does its job. It’s good at limiting screen time and blocking certain apps and websites. However, it sucks at determining which searches are safe and which ones are not. I had searched something about redshift for science class and it gave my parent a warning about drugs??? What????? I searched up ‘Death by Glamour’ on YouTube because I think the song is fire. A warning about….hate speech???? Every time stuff like ts happens I have to explain it to my parents, and it’s really annoying. REALLY annoying. Qustodio needs to invest in their program being able to do a little bit of digging first to see if the search is actually harmful or not. Qustodio also lied about my screen time—said I was on Genshin Impact at three in the morning??? I am NEVER on my phone at three in the morning, plus I don’t even have Genshin on my phone. Got in pretty big trouble for this, though. Alsoooo there are SO many ways to permanently or temporarily disable Qustodio without notifying parents. As an older teen, around the ages of 15–18, I genuinely feel like this app has made my life so much harder. I didn’t have this throughout my childhood, and now, as I’m a high school student ,some of the most important years of my education I’m suddenly given a screen time limit, even though the majority of my schoolwork is ONLINE. Imagine coming home after a long day at school, using your phone or computer for things you actually need to do, and then suddenly your screen time runs out. Now I CAN’T EVEN UPLOAD MY SCHOOLWORK. How is that supposed to help me succeed academically? I’m trying to live my life like a normal teenager. I’ve been good throughout my childhood, and now I have a strict parent who already limits me, and this app has basically given her another tool to control my screen time even more. I understand that the developers want to help parents set boundaries, and I completely understand wanting to protect younger kids from excessive screen time. BUT THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 10 YEAR OLD AND A 16 OR 17 YEAR OLD. Some parents take these restrictions way too far, and apps like this give them even more control without considering the situation at home. I can’t even have a proper conversation with my mom about it because it just turns into yelling, so I’m left feeling completely powerless. I genuinely HATE what this app has done to my situation. I’m angry that something designed to “help” families has made things worse for me. I’ll never understand why older teenagers are treated the same way as little kids when our responsibilities are completely different. Parents, PLEASE think carefully before downloading something like this for an older teenager. If your goal is to get your child off their phone, take them outside. Go for a walk. Do something together. Make being away from the screen actually enjoyable instead of simply taking it away and giving them no choice. And to the developers PLEASE consider making this more age appropriate. When a parent sets up the app, there should be an option to enter the child’s age, and the restrictions should actually reflect that age. A teenager in high school should not have the exact same limitations as a young child, especially when schoolwork, communication, WORK (just like you have to do everyday so do teens, we have responsibilities too) and everyday responsibilities increasingly depend on technology. Before making an app like this, PLEASE ask yourself if you were a teenager living in 2026, how would you feel if your entire day was controlled by a screen time limit even when you needed that technology for school? It does its job, and nothing outright fails to work. The only problem, as someone monitored, is that the search notifications feel somewhat all-or-nothing. Even many benign searches trigger the notification of (x was looking at y), leading to the opposite intended effect where the notification gets ignored. However, this isn’t major. I doubt there’s any good solution to this that doesn’t introduce loopholes. Hence ‘crude’.
