It's been great to give our 10-year-old a bit more independence while still knowing we can contact him if needed. We love the security of knowing she can contact us anytime if she’s on a play date. However I’m hoping the novelty wears off soon, as she called me 52 times in one day, all while we were in the same house 😆 my only feedback would be that the watch is quite big on her wrist (it’s actually bigger than her wrist, but it doesn’t really seem to bother her) and the Velcro strap we bought is actually too big on the smallest setting. We wanted to try a different watch as the Spacetalk is quite chunky and the touch screen is not as responsive as it could be. The KidsOClock price was excellent and it arrived very quickly after I placed my order. It was quite easy to set up and there was online help that I utilised when I got stuck on setting up the password. The watch is similar in size to an Apple Watch and my son loves the style. He also loves changing the faces. He enjoys keeping track of his step count each day too. The touch screen is responsive and the app is easy to use. It does everything I need it to do such as keeping track of my son’s location and being able to call or text each other. In my opinion it is much better than the last kids smart watch we had been using for several years. I used to have to encourage my son to wear the last one. He loves wearing the KidsOClock and the battery lasts longer than the last watch too. My daughter has started taking the school bus going to school & back home starting next term. We feel more assured as she can check in with us as she gets to the school & when she’s on her way to home. We especially love that we can disable the watch during school hours, also limit the contacts she has on her watch. We think we can genuinely put off needing to give her a phone for a bit longer. It has exceeded expectations and has made him much more comfortable catching the bus to and from school. Knowing that he can contact us if something goes wrong has given him a confidence boost and I feel much better knowing I can check on his location if he’s running late. The only thing I wish is that it was waterproof as he keeps forgetting to take it off before jumping in the bath!! I wanted something that was a positive introduction to technology, that allowed for the features I wanted, such as gps location and ability to call known numbers. It’s straightforward to use, I feel confident using the app alongside it to customise the experiences, and the phone plans offered are very reasonably priced. In terms of constructive improvements, my child said they’d like to be able to use emojis in the text function, not just the chat function, As a parent, I don’t always have the app open, so when a new chat comes through the app I don’t always get to see it (I often get notifications on my watch that theres a message in the chat but I can’t read it unless I’m on the app on my phone) We are happy with the purchase we’ve made ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Notifications need work *2024-05-30, version 1.1.16* Update: have recently returned and refunded the GL30. Between the times when the watch would just consistently call the emergency number (meaning I needed to remove the SIM from the watch) to times when the gone could not be located despite being able to call through to having no effective control over the app notifications and being spammed with notifications, I feel that the watch and app had potential but the developers/ manufacturers chose to stop developing the product and thought it was “good enough”. It wasn’t for me though. Would love the ability to choose what notifications to get. Seeing my child leave a fence - definitely. Seeing health data or steps targets? Not so much. Also how is it I can call my child’s device but none of the services through the app (location, health) can reach his device? ### 1/5 — Useless watch and app don’t waste your money! *2024-03-16, version 1.1.16* Has never been a great watch, app is so basic that it’s almost useless. I don’t even get all the messages that my son sends me. The location tracker takes a whole minute to give you the wrong location. The phone calls are hard to hear. And when you contact supper they couldn’t care less! Great safety for our children. Every single time without fail. My wife on Android has no such issues. GPS locating is also pretty bang average, when it’s literally one of the main reasons a person buys this watch. I give you two stars as it’s a nice looking watch, but it doesn’t cover the main reason a parent would buy it, so two is me being kind. I purchased these after comparing reviews to better brands which I know are really average.. right now this is as average based on its performance so far. But this app is a confusing, bug-ridden mess. The location doesn’t always update - I have to manually force it. We have been really pleased with the product and its functionality of being able to make calls, track steps and take photos. In relation to the app that accompanies it - we love that it is free and not a subscription based product. It is logical to use and has great features like find my watch, although there are some limitations. The watch has to be turned on in order to be found (which proves tricky with the battery life only lasting around a day), and when wanting to disable/enable in class mode, it has to be connected to the Wi-Fi so you cannot do this remotely. You can however set features to preserve power which is useful. Be sure to turn off notifications on your phone if you don’t want to be spammed by endless call logs/sms and voice recordings lol ### 3/5 — Location function not very accurate *2025-01-03, version 1.2.0* I have now purchased my second KidsOClock watch for daughter after she asked Father Christmas for one. Her older brother has had a GL20 for over a year and we could be happier. Great that the kids can get out by themselves with the confidence that they can call if need help. I didn’t want the kids to have a Mobile phone so this was a great alternative. The safety and reassurance for me when my kids walk to school is unmatched. The only thing we would love to see different is the ability to download new games on the game section. Otherwise they have been amazing. This watch has given both us and him the confidence for him to ride with friends knowing he can call if worried and we are able to track where he is. It is also really nice to be able to text him if we are running late for pickup, preventing him from stressing if we are not there when the bell rings. He loves the autonomy of using the alarms to remind him of important tasks and chores which enables him to feel more successful and independent. We also love that the product is local!
