Not the most feature-rich, but the learning options are useful and the gameplay and graphics are excellent. Have a great day! ### 4/5 — Need online multiplayer *2020-08-31* I’m new to Koi-Koi. Having played it in Yakuza and have Koi-Koi Japan (cost a couple bucks and has online multiplayer mode) on Steam. I was hooked so I was looking for a mobile version. This game’s UI is well designed. The AI seems to be good on hard. However, there is no sound for me. I tried restarting my phone, uninstalling and reinstalling the app but still no sound. Yes, I can listen to music while playing but part of the experience is for the game’s music to pump up when you choose to Koi-Koi. For a game like this to not have online play feels very incomplete. But when i play against a hard opponent in a twelve month game it keeps crashing. Not cool. ### 3/5 — Fun but cheats *2018-03-01, version 2.0* Like most digital Koi Koi games, this game advertises that it has two difficulty levels, but it’s clear that “hard” mode simply makes the game cheat more often. ### 4/5 — No music *2018-01-14, version 2.0* This app and game are great! I had a good understanding of the game before downloading but now I feel very confident in regards to making yakus and scoring. I like that it hints, it helps speeds up the game for me. My only complaint is that you cannot listen to iTunes or Spotify while playing the game. I have tried everything but nothing works. Even with the music and sound effect volume down, anytime I make a move it will kill the song. If anyone knows a work-around or if I’m doing something work please let me know. Had to spend lots of time online learning how to play before getting the hang of it. Added a star because I love this game and I finally saw the winning hand explanations. Thanks for playing! ### 3/5 — Looks great, but gameplay needs serious work *2017-10-09, version 2.0* I really want to like this app more, as I can appreciate how slick it looks and how nice the animations are. However hard mode is seriously broken. It’s not fun to play when Kiki ends a round after getting a single hand. I would say this happens 9 rounds out of 10. If you want to win you’re basically forced to end the round yourself if you get a hand first because it’s almost guaranteed Kiki will end it next. I’ve played a couple other hanafuda apps over the years on iOS and android that had some good, challenging computer opponents, so I know it’s possible to do without resorting to cheap tactics. ### 5/5 — The new koi koi champ *2017-09-22* It’s really nice to see this getting a much needed update. There isn’t much to choose from for koi koi aficionados, so I thought the transition to ios 11 meant the end of koi koi on my ipad, but you’ve come along and saved the day. I’ve played both easy then hard options. I used to win enough times to want to go back, but not now even in the easy level I rarely win a game so it’s delete and goodbye for me, sorry you changed the game so much ### 1/5 — Controls phone audio *2018-05-23, version 2.0* I hate apps that control phone audio. I use my phone to play music through my Bluetooth speakers, this app dominates the audio. Why do designers make an app that blocks other apps? ### 1/5 — Koi Koi is an awful version of Hanafuda *2018-02-06, version 2.0* I bought this game when my IOS would no longer support hannafuda. I do not enjoy it at all. The cards are small and hard to see, they hide the cards taken, they demand that you manually place your card on the card you are matching, and otherwise plays it’s own CT’s so fast you can’t see them. Terrible. ### 1/5 — Please how could you give this game a good rating *2013-03-31, version 1.1.2* Waste of money ### 2/5 — Probability matrix gives computer the advantage *2021-05-18* I have my own deck to play hanafuda and I’ve never received Moon/Cherry Cups on first draw three games in a row. Also the computer receives more matches when drawing from the deck. As I have been playing hanafuda for over a decade I can still win most matches but having a play against a score of 30+ is quite difficult on the third hand after only 3 draws. But now it doesn’t let me play my own audio while I play Koi-Koi... It’s sad, this was a really fun way to keep my hands busy. ### 2/5 — Flashy updates ruined app for me *2017-10-28, version 2.0* Used to play this a lot, but the recent interface changes have taken away the fun. The cards seem smaller and less attractive. I liked the simplicity of the old version better. ### 2/5 — Old app *2017-05-15, version 1.1.2* Not sure why they sell apps that have not been updated in 5 years because it may not be compatible with newer versions of iOS. As for the game the card moving animation is slow even when set to "fast" and it doesn't show scores by round. ### 3/5 — Not for Non-Beginners *2026-05-21, version 2.2* This helped me get into the game and understand it a bit, but the tutorial is lacking and there is no option to turn off the hints in the game for what to match or do next. Kinda disappointing but still using it… ### 3/5 — Pretty good, but not perfect *2024-02-02* This is a decent version of koi koi, but it seems to be in dire need of some rules tweaking and settings. Currently there are no month yakus in the game, for instance. I also wish you could just tap cards instead of just dragging them… and I wish there was a landscape mode. There is another review that complains about there being no sound in the game, but this is untrue! The game has some nice calm music and sounds, BUT you have to turn off the silent switch on your phone for sound to work :). **Developer response:** Hi there! Thanks so much for playing Kiki! Have a great day! ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Works and looks great on my Vision Pro! *2024-07-26* The graphics are good–way more colorful and friendly than what you usually find on a koi koi app–and the controls fit well with the Vision Pro’s hand gestures. I am looking forward to trying this app with friends and family! Definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a fun koi koi app. It would be even nicer if it were localized in other languages such as French. ### 5/5 — Nice implementation of the game *2023-02-21, version 2.2* Cool little game, pretty easy to work out how to play this version. I wanted a two player game which my other koi kois don’t have - so this game is great for that. One issue though is the cards aren’t as nice as in other apps so it’s not always easy to work out which card is which and that’s a shame particularly as I want to play with a friend who is unfamiliar with the game or card faces. Also the cards that you have won aren’t very well displayed - the sets that are shown are very small and you can’t see the Basic (kasu) cards at all as the app just lists the number you’ve won and doesn’t display the card faces. This is an issue when you are trying to remember which cards have been played and other koi koi apps do a better job of showing you the full field of play. I also like it when the game shows the open hands at the end of a game so that you can see whether you made a good decision in continuing or stopping play but this app doesn’t do that which is a shame. But the play is challenging enough so that sometimes the game wins, sometimes I do (another reviewer said the computer player was too simple but I haven’t found that to be true) and I’m really enjoying the game. Plus the developer responded to my comments - always a plus - so I’m upping my stars to a full 5. PS Developer: would it be possible to have a stats section so you can see a record of wins and losses? Thanks. 2023 iOS 16 update: Still works perfectly under iOs 16 and still loving playing it. This game is awesome at showing you how to play! However, the ability to flip the phone and show what you have for sets (someone else mentioned this) doesn’t appear to be happening for me. It would be nice to have a zoomed image of what I have and maybe month suits in the help menu or somewhere handy. Either way, I am learning how to play! Just repetitively trying will get your brain recognizing the sets. It’s very fun. I’m glad I got this game. I would love to see more Hanafuda games like this, with an awesome tutorial. Same game and after playing this game a few days I am picking it up quickly and learning it as I go along. Perfect game for beginners or relearning the game (like me).
