## What is Killer Sudoku?

Killer Sudoku for people who hate ad-bloated puzzle apps.

Bento is a hand-curated Killer Sudoku game for iPhone and iPad. No ads. No subscription. No login. No tracking. Just puzzles, made for the bedside table.

WHAT'S KILLER SUDOKU?
It's the Sudoku you know - fill the 9×9 grid so every row, column, and 3×3 box has the digits 1–9 - with a twist: the grid is divided into colored "cages", and the digits inside each cage must add up to the cage's number (with no repeats). It plays like Sudoku crossed with a math puzzle, and once you've tried it, regular Sudoku starts to feel one-dimensional.

REGULAR SUDOKU
The classic game, no cages. Rows, columns and boxes, nothing else to keep in your head - the one you already know how to play, built with the same care as the rest of Bento.

100 HAND-CURATED PUZZLES
Every puzzle in Bento is generated and verified for a unique solution - no broken puzzles, no guesswork required. 20 Easy / 25 Medium / 25 Hard / 30 Expert across the adult catalogue. Plus a fresh daily puzzle every day, free forever.

KIDS MODE
A separate catalogue of 48 puzzles on smaller 4×4 and 6×6 grids - perfect for teaching the cage-summing mechanic to a young learner. Brighter colors, more forgiving scoring, more hints. Toggle on the home screen.

ONE-TIME UNLOCK
Bento Pro is a single in-app purchase - no recurring charges. You get every puzzle in adult and kids modes, every difficulty. Try the first 3 puzzles of every difficulty plus the daily puzzle for free, indefinitely. No coercive trial periods, no manipulative free-but-not-really tier.

DESIGNED FOR FOCUS
• Neobrutalist sticker UI - bold colors, satisfying tactile feel
• Classical-grid mode for purists who want plain white cells
• Strict mode (3-mistake game over) for players who want the tension
• Per-puzzle stars track your cleanest solves separately from your fastest
• Full undo history, smart hints, pencil notes
• Replay any solved puzzle; share your trophy card as a PNG
• Daily streak counter

PRIVACY-FIRST
Bento collects nothing. No account, no analytics SDK, no ad network, no server you talk to. Everything lives on your device. The only network call the app makes is to Apple's StoreKit when you tap "Unlock for Bento Pro" or "Restore Purchase."

WHO IT'S FOR
• Sudoku players bored of vanilla 9×9 and looking for the next twist
• Parents who want to teach their 6-year-old logic puzzles without screens of ads
• Anyone who's deleted a "free" Sudoku app after the third 30-second ad in five minutes

The app has challenging puzzles, smooth controls, and just the right difficulty ramp. Eye-friendly sudoku app for anyone that is perfect for quick brain workouts and mental exercises. Highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Great take on Sudoku

*2026-05-04*

I play sudoku daily and came across this game. It’s like sudoku but on a more challenging level. The fact you need to do match alone with just lining up numbers adds so much more difficulty and forces me to really use my brain.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.0.3 — 2026-08-26

Bento now plays two games.

Regular Sudoku - the classic, cage-free puzzle - joins Killer Sudoku. Tap the tag under the Bento title on the home screen to flip between them.

It's a whole second game, not a display option: 100 new hand-built adult puzzles and 48 new kids puzzles across Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert, its own Daily Puzzle, its own stats and streak, and a calm blue theme so you always know which one you're in. Everything you already use in Killer - notes, hints, undo, favorites, the 1-5 star score - works exactly the same.

Adult and Kids each get both rulesets, so there are now four separate progress tracks and four Daily Puzzles. The Daily stays free forever, and the first three puzzles in every difficulty of every bank are free too.

Nothing you have already solved has moved, and no streak was reset.

New to Bento? The welcome tutorial has a new page introducing the two ways to play.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-05-07

Bento now speaks seven languages.

The whole game - menus, settings, the win screen, the rulebook - is available in English, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), French, and Japanese. The app picks your language automatically from your iOS preferences. Want to override it just for Bento? Settings → Display Language lists every locale we ship.

While we were at it, we added a brand-new rulebook in Settings → How to Play. Classic Sudoku rules, the cage twist, every gameplay tool, Daily Puzzle, Kids Mode, Strict Mode, Pro - all in one scrollable place. Skim it, search it, come back when you need a refresher.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-05-05

Smarter notes. When you commit a digit into a cell, matching pencil-marks in the same row, column, 3×3 box, and cage are erased automatically - one less thing to keep track of while solving. Mistakes don't trigger the cleanup, so a misclick won't wipe out your notes. Undo restores everything.

Resume any puzzle, anytime. Tapping a puzzle from the picker now picks up where you left off - even if you've opened the daily or another puzzle in between. Each in-progress puzzle keeps its own progress slot.

### 1.0 — 2026-05-04

No release notes.
