The subscription is very cheap and I like being able to support the developer. I do wish there was a way to import inventory from a CSV. I’m maintaining it right now in google sheets and cannot imagine re-entering it all on my iPad or phone. ### 1/5 — Loses projects! *2024-07-27, version 4.8.4* Wanted to like this app. Entered three projects and firing schedules. Went back to the project screen and they had all disappeared, lost them and the firing schedules. Unusable so will request a refund. Tools are also a ‘subscription’ feature - why?! Why would I pay a recurring fee for something so basic? ### 1/5 — Apple sign in not working *2024-02-13* Error message ‘sign-up not completed’. Alternatively Apple ID appears to be accepted but app stays on login screen. **Developer response:** Hiya. Thanks for reporting this. This looks like a recent problem, but I can absolutely reproduce the problem, so I'll look at it and try to get it fixed just as fast as possible. In the meantime, the 'sign in with google' provider is still working, or if you'd rather, you can simply sign-up with any email address and password of your choice. I’m using it on an iPad, maybe that’s the problem, but I don’t have a Mac computer. It asks you to enter a kiln but won’t let you change the manufacturer from Paragon. Strike one. It asks you to enter the glass type but won’t let you change it from Bullseye. Strike two. Not sure if I want to invest any more time here. **Developer response:** Hi LemurianG. I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble. The app should certainly work just fine on an iPad, and although I can never say that there aren't ANY bugs, I'm pretty confident this isn't one of them. The only thing that's in common with the two problems you report is that they're both drop-down selections. These work in the standard way on iPads and iPhones - you click on the item you want to change (the word 'Paragon', or 'Bullseye' in your example). At the bottom of the screen, a scrolling picker will appear - you drag on that to scroll the list until the one you want is in the middle (highlighted in a different grey), and then press 'Done' (or, actually... just click outside of the picker). I'm afraid I've checked, and I can't reproduce the problem on my iPad, or my Phone. Is it possible that you clicked, and didn't notice the picker appear at the bottom? I'm sure we can get you through this - I can absolutely confirm that it is possible to select different options in the drop-downs, and thousands of active projects on KilnHelper attest to it. -- Jules ### 1/5 — Not for US glass artists *2023-07-13* The app defaults to mm and Celsius. Yes, you can change mm to inches and Celsius to Fahrenheit when filling out a kiln schedule, but when you get to the other screens, it displays the data in mm and Celsius. Filing out the kiln schedule is also more complex than it needs to be. I shouldn’t have to name each segment unless I want to. Overall it makes keeping track of kiln schedules take longer. Definitely not worth the $2. I’m going back to my paper sheets in my binder. **Developer response:** Hiya. I'm sorry you're not happy. The app does indeed default to mm and Celsuis (imperial measurements being standard in only 1.5% of the world's countries, after all). But... we love our American cousins, so the app not only supports both sorts of measurements, but you can also change the default for all projects. Simply select 'User' at the bottom, followed by 'Show settings', and then toggle the degrees setting, and the 'Units of length' setting. While you're there, you can also adjust defaults for other things like glass type, if you mostly work with a particular glass vendor. From that point on, you'll be defaulted to your preferred unit of measure. Kiln Schedules would like a name for each segment - it's true. The app doesn't really care what it is, though - so a simple '1', '2','3' would make sense. You might also want to note that the naming tends to be useful - most of the time our users are doing firings that are a variation on previous ones, so it's quite common for them to copy a previous firing and adjust it accordingly. The segment name provides a lightweight way to keep track of what you're up to. But... ultimately, if paper works better for you, then you should absolutely use what you feel most comfortable with. I hope, though, that knowing what you now know, you might give it another go. If you refer to the glass as ‘Spectrum’, then you’ll get the spectrum/Oceanside glass database as you expect. I’ll try to get that made a little clearer in future versions ;) ### 1/5 — Sign up not working *2023-01-22* I just bought this application, but the registration does not work! Also, the ability to log in with the help of Google account does not work! And unfortunately, the application is completely unused and inactive without signup & registration! I wasted my money! Update: I live in Iran, but the Google registration system works fine here and has no problems! I am also enrolled in bullseye glass online classes and have been using their online classes with ease, apparently this problem only occurs with your app! I’ve not had any other reports of signup trouble, and telemetry suggests that at least some users are still managing to sign ins and signups are still working in most regions. If you can give me some more information, then I can probably help. In particular, the back end uses Google cloud services, so if you were (for example) trying to access it from a country that they are forbidden by US law to provide service to, that might cause a problem. Could you confirm where you are based? Failing that… if you’re still not happy, please request a refund from Apple. Just to be clear… the likely thing that’s not working is a part of Google’s cloud infrastructure - specifically Google Firebase. It’s rather hard to pin this stuff down, and I’m certainly not an expert on geopolitics or US sanctions compliance, but Firebase is listed on the list of services that block IPs from Iran, so that’s not going to work. Sorry… I can’t solve that one. As I say… your best route is to request a refund from Apple. Sorry! ### 5/5 — I love this App! *2023-01-11* I’ve been fusing glass for years and never really found a great way to keep my projects, photos and firing schedules in one place and easily accessible, until I tried Kiln Helper! I use it on my iPad, but it is available for phones and across different platforms. You can enter each piece as a new project, including information like date, kiln used, the materials used, and a firing schedule or schedules depending on your project. There is plenty of space for project notes as well as firing notes. When you enter a firing schedule a handy graph is also displayed. The best part is being able to add multiple photos for your project - no more firing schedules on paper while the photos are on the phone! Projects are displayed as either a card with a large photo or in a detail list with a smaller photo. The materials aspect is good as well. If you use Bullseye glass you can either enter a product number or scroll through a listing and select the specific product you want. There is also a description field if you used a material not on the list. It’s not a difficult app to learn although it did take me a little bit to figure it out. I had a couple of questions and contacted the creator who was very helpful. Regarding having to log in, I don’t find it an issue considering you have to log into almost every program you use that stores data.
