I’ve got the touch screen KM which rocks and I love being able to see the graph of the kiln cycle. This app falls woefully short of expectations. There’s no over-time displays to show you where you are in your run. And if you happen to switch to the “Old View” and try to return to the “New View” the app completely forgets your kiln and you have to reconnect (which you cannot do while the kiln is running). ### 1/5 — Won’t link *2025-08-09, version 2.5.0* App won’t link to kiln even tho the kiln is on WiFi network. It just won’t go past Link. Scared the barcode and everything ### 2/5 — Underwhelming *2025-02-23* For such a great kiln company who produces beautiful high end kilns the app is really disappointing by today’s standards. It’s clearly not a priority at Skutt. There are some really straightforward improvements that would make the app more compelling with the first being inclusion of the graph that you see on the controller screen during and after a firing cycle. Please rethink your business model - you’re missing a big opportunity to provide a great app to people who pay big bucks for your kilns. As someone else said, at least let us move to the next segment or end the program remotely. How hard can that be? ### 1/5 — App stopped working… *2024-04-23, version 2.5.0* Like others here, my app just flat out stopped working. It was fine for months. I hadn’t fired anything in maybe 5 or 6 weeks, which doesn’t seem that long to let it sit! Set up a firing and opened the app to the same error others have reported. I tried re-downloading and upon trying to reset my password, also found that process to get stuck/not work. These kilns aren’t cheap, and a simple app that functions would be nice! Skutt, please fix this! ### 2/5 — Lost Opportunity *2024-02-08, version 2.5.0* Come on Skutt. This is one of the very few areas you can show some innovation in your otherwise static, very mature product line. This app is a basic readout of temperature, which isn’t even formatted for vertical orientation on a phone screen (you lose the first and last digit once the temp goes over 1000°) lol Perhaps look at the SensorPush app to see what can be done with a couple basic metrics to present data over time etc. Then allow control over the KTM from the app to at least shut the kiln off remotely. Not sure what the Engineers or Educational Support (YT tutorials etc) folks do to fill up their weeks over at Skutt. ### 1/5 — Too bad 0 stars is not an option *2023-12-06, version 2.5.0* I love my kiln but unfortunately the app is garbage. I can not get it to do anything but login. I was hoping to be able to check my classroom kiln from my home to make sure everything is firing well but I can get it to work. ### 1/5 — Frustrated *2023-11-11, version 2.5.0* Can’t even get the app to accept info and open. ### 1/5 — Does not work *2023-07-14, version 2.4.0* This app stinks obviously Skutt does not have an IT department or even an IT person or contractor that can fix it for them…. Oh well the kiln still works well so that’s a plus. ### 3/5 — Could be much better *2023-03-12, version 2.4.0* While it allows me to link to my kiln and see the current temperature, it’s not much more helpful than that. I would like to see alerts for errors with sound notifications and also sounds for the alarms set in the program, for instance I usually set an alarm for 1,000 degrees during the firing and it would be helpful to have that alarm ring through my phone app. Access to the graph of the program running would be helpful too. ### 2/5 — Inconsistent *2023-01-28, version 2.4.0* I was very excited about this feature but unfortunately the app is inconsistent. It often loses connection with the kiln and is unable to reconnect. I don’t trust this app to give me an accurate reading when I’m outside of the studio. Hoping for an update soon so this issue gets resolved. ### 3/5 — Stopped working *2023-01-18, version 2.4.0* UPDATE: I got it working again by updating the firmware on my kiln controller. It’s only been one day but so far it is working again. Now if I could only make adjustments to the program as it is firing. I used the app fine for awhile. Packed up my kiln a year ago to move and got it back out recently and now it doesn’t work at all. Getting the same error everyone else reviewing reports. Tried deleting the app and trying to start over but no luck. ### 1/5 — so annoying *2022-09-14, version 2.4.0* the most annoying app. it does the bare minimum and you have to keep refreshing it and tricking it into working at all. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Not Even Functional *2026-07-10, version 2.9.0* The app completely doesn’t work. I invested in this particular kiln after being told I could monitor and connect through the app and it turned out to be an outright lie. Do NOT purchase the Skutt KMT kiln sitter. ### 1/5 — So disappointing *2026-06-03, version 2.9.0* The app is very frustrating at best and really old at worst. Seriously Skutt, hire one competent product manager, user experience designer and engineer. That’s all it would take given the simplicity of your app. ### 1/5 — Why is this such a terrible app? *2025-12-20, version 2.9.0* Dead links, endless loops, poor UI, ambiguous icons, lack of utility. It has it all! ### 1/5 — App is crAPP *2025-12-10, version 2.9.0* Purchased the skutt kiln with this app specifically for remote monitoring. As a basic monitoring app the interface is beyond not user friendly. It’s as if someone decided, “let’s make an app that could be useful, but let’s make sure it’s not.” But at least I could check my kiln’s temp. Now after their ‘update’ I can’t even log in. Can’t update my password… so I’m sure the new interface is lovely and the app probably works perfectly… once you’re logged in (okay, doubtful). Of course calling skutt’s helpline is an exercise in wasting time because they ‘know it’s an issue’ but it’s the company that built the app that has to fix it so I should call them. Seriously? Hard no. That’s YOUR job Skutt tech support, et al. Oh and on top of paying about a grand extra for the kiln, skutt wants me to pay a monthly access fee for the full use of the app? Are you kidding me? What a joke. Highly DO NOT recommend this product or the app. ### 1/5 — Disappointing *2025-12-07, version 2.9.0* This app works less than half of the time. I constantly have to close and reopen it to find my kiln, which often disappears from the list (of 1 kiln). Also, it never "remembers me" so I have to plug in my log in info manually every time. Aside from that, it's disappointing that it doesn't show you the same info if you were at the kiln. Mostly just current temp and if it's done or not. No ramp info etc. Seems like this whole app is an afterthought and skutt does not care if it sucks. ### 1/5 — Will not connect *2025-09-29, version 2.8.0* I’ve tried multiple times over several months and have never had success fully connecting the app to my kiln. I purchased the kiln new earlier this year and it has a touchscreen controller. I have WiFi connected to the kiln and to my phone. The app always gets stuck at the point of naming the kiln. I don’t expect a slick,fancy app - Skutt is obviously not a software company - but the idea of being able to monitor the kiln without being in the room was a selling point and it’s frustrating to have the app exist but not work. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Meh. *2026-06-14, version 2.9.0* I’ve had this free app for years and it is nice to be able to monitor the temperature but can’t see the history or skip ahead or anything else. There is a place that tells you if you want to see more to upgrade to premium but there is no place to do that. I would happily upgrade for as much as I use my kiln. Frustrating. ### 5/5 — Additional features *2025-11-13, version 2.8.0* I love this app, it is great to be able to keep track of my kiln anywhere. One feature I would love is either functionality with the Apple shortcuts features or the ability to get notifications when parts of my firing and cooling have occurred. Shortcuts functionality would be insane, think when room temperature reaches 100 F, then turn on vent in room type of functionality. I’d be even willing to help build that enhancement for your app ### 5/5 — Love the details *2025-09-14, version 2.8.0* I love the details that are available when I view the status of the kiln in the recent update of the app. Thank you. ### 5/5 — GREAT app! *2025-09-07, version 2.8.0* Connects to my kiln and allows me to monitor the status of the firing, stages and temp. I have read some of the reviews of this app, and am a bit disappointed in the pottery culture reviewing this app. Why not just go buy a mug instead of hand crafting it and cooking one in a kiln? Don’t get so spoiled by your phone that it makes you judge a corporation that is not a software company. They make kilns. They make great kilns, and this software is fantastic, as is the connectivity to the kiln. Take a moment while you sip your matcha from your hand made mug, and appreciate what it takes to operate a small, hyper-specific business serving makers. This app is a gift. ### 5/5 — Free Version pretty good *2024-11-19, version 2.5.0* Currently, I only have the free version of this app. And I find it very easy to use. It’s helpful to see the basic information of what’s happening and mostly to just keep track of the temperature as I wait for it to cool. The historical data can be downloaded from Scuts dedicated page outside of this app if you’re only using the free version. If you’re only looking for the basic info: temp, fire time, speed, and cost, this is great. If you’re looking for more information overtime, you’ll need to purchase the full app. ### 5/5 — Mine stopped working also theres a quick fix *2022-04-22, version 2.0.9* Just download updated firmware its right on the menu. I also had to reinstall app on phone. Just click the WiFi icon on the kilns touchscreen and then click update firmware BOOM! ### 5/5 — Great! *2020-07-01* YOU MUST CLICK THE KILN IN THE FIRST SCREEN TO ACCESS THE SECOND SCREEN!!!! I had mine for over a year before someone let me know there is more information available. Input your info. When you get to the kiln and temp on the orange screen click on your kiln and it will open the green screen with the firing info! Love this app! I can check on it from anywhere! If you have trouble connecting to wifi(my kiln I in my garage) get a WiFi booster! ### 4/5 — Great app *2024-06-22, version 2.5.0* This app is great for monitoring your kiln. It was easy to set up. No more worrying about what my kiln is up to. I can just look at my phone and see. Super convenient! My only request is to make it easier to add users. ### 4/5 — Make sure to update firmware on your Kiln *2021-12-01, version 2.0.9* My app stopped working. I noticed it was wonky the last few times I fired my kiln but yesterday I couldn’t connect to my kiln at all. I tried all the troubleshooting tricks like unlinking and reconnecting my kiln, reinstalling the app, rebooting my phone etc with no resolve. Then I was looking at my WiFi connection on my kiln touchscreen and realized I needed to do a firmware update. There’s an actual icon on your screen to check and update the firmware.
