### 2/5 — Last update broke most basic navigation feature

*2026-02-09, version 3.9.13*

App is fine but the last update prevents the user from swiping back and forth whilst navigating for kilter problems. You used to be able to swipe back to come back to the previously displayed kilter problem: now it backs you out to the list display.

### 3/5 — buggy

*2025-12-29, version 3.9.12*

very buggy. updated the app and it deleted my entire logbook. Kilter i love you guys but please work on your app

### 2/5 — Unnecessarily slow app

*2025-11-13*

I love using the kilter board and I want it to do better.

This app is a pretty major pain point for the climbing experience. There are far too many climbs loaded in the initial state of the search. Consequently, the entire app chugs when you start typing as it’s trying to filter. As for how this hasn’t gotten fixed is beyond me. This is the core of how I use the app and it’s a painful reminder each time I search for a climb.

### 4/5 — Works well

*2025-08-10, version 3.9.1*

App is good and intuitive, the only annoying part is setting your own problems, as it is easy to misclick when setting a hold. Allowing users to zoom in when setting would be nice.

### 3/5 — Grading system is bad

*2025-04-03*

When you “quick log ascent”, you vote for the current grade of the climb. E.g, if I quick log ascent “Lack of Faith”, I voted that this climb is “6c/V5”. This is bad design, because a lot of people don’t want to vote for the grade of the climb but only log their ascent, and this inflates the vote for current grade. If the current grade does not reflect the actual difficulty of the climb, the inflated votes prevent any shift of the grade, resulted from other people who think carefully about the grade. Please change this!!

### 2/5 — clunky and slow

*2025-03-14, version 3.5.2*

app ui is just really clunky and hard to use. sorting climbs based on what you want is slow and clunky. following and searching for people/setters is clunky and slow. it's all just clunky and slow

### 3/5 — Needs Sort options and tags

*2024-12-19*

Need a way to sort the database by local climbers to your wall, you can do this manually for each angle by searching each local user, takes forever. Additionally you should be able to search for tags like: crimps slopers, pinches, tension, Gastons, etc. you should be able to sort your saved or liked items into folders, maybe you can do that with circuits but I don’t think that’s what they were intended for.

### 2/5 — Developer Feedback

*2024-11-11, version 3.4.15*

Please add “quick log ascent” for all routes. I don’t care about critiqueing a route. I just want to climb and mark done vs not.

### 2/5 — UI

*2024-09-18, version 3.4.14*

this app is super unintuitive and wonky. frankly, it needs a complete overhaul.

### 3/5 — search issues

*2024-05-03, version 3.4.6*

usable app with search issues for projects:

certain published climbs are not searchable. dunno if this has something to do with them being projects that were created before a certain date. i can verify this because i have several climbs tagged within a circuit, but those same climbs don’t appear within the main search.

### 3/5 — It’s ok

*2023-12-16, version 3.4.2*

Can’t sign in randomly
Apps routes are graded inconsistent

### 4/5 — Amazing, but… just one thing that bugs me

*2023-11-26*

This is a great way to set climbs, there are a ton of possibilities for setting, but, the reason I gave it 4 stars was that it is really hard to see the climbs you’ve set in your profile, what if I want to work on a draft? I have to search my climb every time, please put a “draft” section in the profile section of the app, same for climbs I’ve just set if I want to show friends I have to search it up

### 4/5 — Fairly easy to use

*2023-11-23, version 3.4.2*

4 star

### 4/5 — Great + suggestion

*2023-11-16, version 3.4.2*

Great app with good problems.

Would be awesome if you could see what problem is on the board when someone else is connected during a session!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Great board system, app needs re-writing

*2026-03-03, version 3.9.14*

.

### 1/5 — Climber height

*2026-02-01, version 3.9.12*

You should add a filter for the height of the route setter.
Ps i love the kilter board and app. One star to draw attention to my feedback

### 1/5 — Great board system, app needs re-writing

*2026-01-16, version 3.9.12*

The Kilter board system itself is great. Great fun to climb on, super useful as a training tool also. The biggest let down is the app, which is an awful user experience, and really needs a fundamental overhaul. It could do with a proper UX designer looking at the usability and workflow 🙏🏼 There are too many holes in the workflow to mention. Pro board system, amateur app.

Edit* - downgrading to a 1-Star for the canned response.

You say to submit suggestions to your 'support' email but you know you don't respond to them in any case. So your standard response speaks volumes about your approach to this I'm afraid.

Make an API available, and you'll see plenty of 'suggestions' about how this app could be done better.

The Kilterboard experience is let down by the current app associated with it unfortunately.

There is a very clear disconnect between Kilter's product/brand and how this app currently represents it.

Hopefully Kilter can make their own version in future.

### 1/5 — Can’t create account

*2025-11-19, version 3.9.12*

Can’t create account. The app keeps crashing when I tap on the username field.

### 1/5 — Missing key features

*2025-06-20, version 3.6.0*

There should be a way to see the current route on the board, and if there is a way it’s really not obvious at all. Why? Because I don’t want to have to ask the people around me what the grade is on the board

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2025-05-04, version 3.5.3*

As others have said, the whole app needs a complete overhaul. It’s unintuitive and doesn’t even connect to the board 1/2 the time.

### 1/5 — Grade disarray

*2024-09-11, version 3.4.14*

Board is awesome. Shame the app facilitates such poor grading.

Moreover, my review above was actually self-explanatory had you cared to read it properly. I wasn't offering any suggestions for incremental improvements. I said the app needs a fundamental overhaul - that was your feedback.

### 1/5 — Not showing starting holds with different shape

*2023-11-18, version 3.4.2*

Why you changed the feature of showing starting holds with different shape? It’s really difficult for ppl who are not color sensitive to figure out the starting holds when there are a lot of foot holds.

### 1/5 — 254MB?!?! Why???

*2023-08-31, version 3.3.39*

Don’t understand why this app takes so much space. Lighten it up!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Done everything I needed

*2026-02-28, version 3.9.14*

Have had no problems, I don’t know why reviews are so low. Main page needs to be updated. Everything else has been great.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2025-11-29, version 3.9.12*

I just started using kilter board because I got into rock climbing. Overwhelming amazing experience

### 5/5 — pretty good

*2025-08-15, version 3.9.1*

for the size of the company this a good app. few bugs

### 5/5 — Easy and intuitive

*2025-03-10*

The app plays well with other users so that many people can enjoy the wall with quick transitions/pairing from one problem to the next. The developers also seem receptive to making improvements and listening to user feedback.

### 5/5 — Loving the kilter board and app

*2025-01-13, version 3.5.0*

Great board and app - easy to use and with loads of great features to help with training. I only wish I can send friends some Strava style kudos after sending their projects!

### 5/5 — plz plz plz

*2024-06-19, version 3.4.8*

Can you guess add a feature to have AI make new original climbs? I live settings climbs but sometimes I need some inspiration or just don’t feel like designing one by myself.

### 5/5 — Climb

*2024-04-12, version 3.4.4*

Try my climb “The crux of death”

### 5/5 — Allow climb editing after posting

*2023-07-03, version 3.3.29*

I absolutely love this app and the kilter board, however I find it annoying that I set a climb and forget to add a no match sign or add a hold and I then have a ruined climb that I can’t edit, nor ever re-use that climb/name

### 5/5 — Training Has Never Been Easier

*2022-10-06*

I spent years training on the Moonboard back when you had to print out each individual problem from their website, three-hole punch it, and put it into a binder if you wanted to access problems from the data base.

The way this app functions to make training better and more time efficient feels like cheating. The more I dig around the app and pay attention to all the features and small details the more impressed I am.

### 5/5 — Kilter board review

*2022-08-13, version 3.0.3*

I enjoy the ease of use of this app. It is very intuitive and I enjoy the links to the IG videos. I would suggest adding a “dance party mode” where the lights on the board create a party vibe 🕺💃
