I’ve been using it to track all of the really important techniques I’ve learned in class. Once I realized that I could save instructionals from YouTube it totally changed the game! ### 5/5 — Love this for BJJ notes *2024-10-09, version 1.0.3* It’s so cool that after class I’m able to track the techniques. Thanks so much!!! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Money grab *2025-04-13, version 1.2.9* You can tell this app has had a lot of effort put into it, but without paying for a subscription it’s literally just the notes app. Pretty much a waste of time. Don’t download this unless you are willing to pay just to watch a few YouTube videos ### 1/5 — Paywalls *2025-04-07, version 1.2.9* The way this app is advertised on social media fails to highlight the premium membership requirement. While there is a wealth of content available on the app it is almost entirely locked behind a paywall. For example without a premium account you are only able to save 20 techniques total but have unlimited access with a premium account. And while the premium account is priced reasonably it is done so in a way that strongly encourages you to buy for a year which is $60 or a lifetime which is $100. This is in contrast to the monthly premium fee of $12. This style of marketing aims to trap the user into a larger single time payment. All in all a great concept and if you have an extra $100 lying around and are really serious about BJJ a great find. If you’re not planning on shilling out it’s simply not worth it. ### 1/5 — Anything is better *2024-12-26, version 1.2.6* The only thing this app beats out notes app is in terms of compiling notes and video even then the most basic features are locked behind a paywall, don’t waste your money just use a pen and paper or the notes app ### 1/5 — scam *2024-12-19, version 1.2.5* why do i have to pay for absolutely everything ### 1/5 — Save your money *2024-12-09* This app is just links to YouTube videos, don’t pay. YouTube is free and you can just look up all the techniques yourself. Also the creator of the app makes sever posts in BJJ Facebook groups, always throwing in that he “found” this cool app, lying and pretending to be a random consumer to shamelessly promote it. The app is entirely free to use and has a freemium model. The app has only been live for less than 2 months, and our team is trying our best to deliver the best experience possible to a community we love. ### 2/5 — Great app - to a point *2025-05-01* When I first started using Kimura, I really enjoyed it and I felt like it helped me out a lot. I still enjoy it and it still helps me, but there’s one limiting thing that I dislike about the app. I get that you have to make money and have a pro version, but limiting us to only 20 techniques? In one week of bjj I learn more than 20 moves so this kind of forces me to pay. I would be fine with this if it was say maximum $5 dollars a month, but at $8 a month for an app for Brazilian jiu jitsu is a stretch. I support your idea and your app, and would give 5 stars if we could just have more or even unlimited techniques with the free version. It looks like the videos on the paid versions are nice and the other bonuses you get with it, but you shouldn’t just basically not let us use the app after we have 20 techniques. ### 3/5 — My two cents *2025-08-16* This app has a great idea to it and a surplus of info about Brazilian juijistu but, users must pay for a “pro” subscription to access pretty much 90 percent of the apps moves, lessons, and submission’s. The reason this is such an issue is because in a bjj class a practitioner could learn double of the about of stuff in 5 days than 2 weeks on the free version of this app. **Developer response:** Thanks! We do agree with you that going to classes is always better than using an app. Kimura is meant to be a complement, not a supplament for Jiu Jitsu classes. ### 3/5 — Decent App *2024-12-13* This app is somewhat helpful for organizing your own notes. My main gripe is that I can’t upload any videos I take in class to my notes. Filming a technique in class then uploading it to my notes would boost my rating up. **Developer response:** We built it! Even supports google for auth so it was nice not having to create a new account manually. Takes a bit to get it set up, I would like if there was a list of techniques to start from where I could choose my favourites . ### 5/5 — Great app! Is really useful to track your progress and have a mental schema of what do you know and how do you want to play your game in your next bjj session. Would like to see a search bar in each Moves section, so I don’t have to scroll down to look for an specific technique. Will continue using it, I really like it!
