## What is Kinetics?

Open the app, press start, and do the workout in front of you. The exercise, the sets, the weight, and the rest timer are already decided. When the timer ends, the next set is queued. Your whole job is to lift.

Kinetics writes that workout for the gym you train in, then runs the program in blocks so it has a shape. Phases, the same main lifts week to week, and a split that matches how often you get in.

YOUR GYM, YOUR PLATES
Tell it what you have once. A commercial gym, a rack and a few plates in the garage, or a pair of dumbbells. It only programs what you can load, and it will never give you a weight you don't own the plates for. Save more than one gym and switch when you travel.

THE PROGRAM
Every week has an overhead pull, a row and a hamstring movement in it. The app checks before it hands you the week. Main lifts stay put through a block so you can see whether they moved. Rest between sets comes from the phase you're in.

Ask for 45 minutes and the session is 45 minutes, warm-up and rest between sets included.

What you lifted, how hard the sessions were, the lifts you rated up or down and the weight bumps you approved all go into the brief for next week. A lift that has stopped moving gets flagged and pushed toward a change. Your equipment, your session length and anything you've cut are enforced afterwards, whatever else happens.

IN THE SESSION
One exercise at a time, with the weight, reps and rest already filled in. Your last numbers for that lift are on screen. The rest timer keeps running when you switch apps, stays on your Lock Screen and your wrist, and queues the next set when it ends. The phone stays in your pocket. The plate calculator tells you what to put on the bar.

Change things while you're training. Ask the coach to swap a lift when the rack is busy, drop the weight, or turn it into a timed set. Tell it you're done with an exercise for good and it comes out of every session already on your schedule.

AFTER THE SESSION
Total volume, intensity, which muscles took the work, and any personal records with the estimated 1RM behind them. Volume and strength trends over weeks. Thumbs up or down on any lift, and two thumbs down retires it.

If you wear an Apple Watch, the session shows up in Apple Health and your heart rate goes into the report. Sleep and resting heart rate from Health build a readiness score you can look at before you decide how hard to go.

YOUR DATA STAYS ON YOUR PHONE
No account and no sign-up. Your training history and profile live on the device. Generating a workout and talking to the coach send that request to Google's Gemini API to be processed, and nothing is kept there.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0 — 2026-10-13

Kinetics 2.0. Every screen is redesigned, and Coach K now demonstrates the moves himself.

• Coach K shows you the move: 281 exercise demos, built into the app so they play instantly, even offline.
• Supersets that fit your gear. Muscle days pair lifts that don't compete, and a pair never needs one bar or one adjustable dumbbell at two weights. No re-plating, no re-dialing.
• The rest screen plays Coach K's demo of the lift coming up, and names both lifts of the next pair and their weights, so you can set up both before the round starts.
• Your streak is a flame on Home. It grows from Cool to Unstoppable, counts sessions in a row, and a planned rest day or travel day never breaks it.
• Your path: new moves open as your lifts hit real numbers, and nothing your program needs is ever locked. Sandbox mode opens every move from day one.
• Coach K understands make-up days. He knows what day it is and which of this week's sessions are still open, so a change you ask for on yesterday's workout lands on the session you're about to do. A made-up session counts as done and stops that evening's reminder.
• The how-to screen now shows your history on that lift: top sets from your last five sessions, newest first, and your best.
• Apple Watch, redone. The weight comes first, one key stays in the same place (SET DONE, START for a timed set, FINISH on the last), and rest shows what's coming up. The Skip key that logged the set anyway is gone.
• A best counts only what you actually lifted. A weight on the plan you never hit is no longer a record.

### 1.4 — 2026-09-01

This update is about the coach getting things right.

• Calorie and macro targets are now calculated from your body, activity and goal instead of one-size-fits-all numbers. If your weight changes enough to matter, the app shows you the new numbers before anything moves.
• Workout generation is faster and far more reliable. A session that can't be built no longer takes the rest of your week with it.
• Short sessions got smarter: tighter default warmup and cooldown mean more actual training in a 30-minute workout, and Settings now shows exactly where your minutes go.
• The workout report charts each lift across your recent sessions, not just today.
• Head-nod set completion no longer triggers during bouncy exercises like butt kicks.
• Travel workouts respect your excluded exercises.
• Plus duplicate exercises merged, clearer error messages, and many smaller fixes.

### 1.3 — 2026-08-28

Exercise demos. 34 movements now have real video, filmed in a real gym, playing full screen while you lift.

The workout screen was rebuilt around them, with last session's weight and reps on screen while you work.

Fixes from training on it:

Lifts that stalled now get the next increase. It was handing every increase to the same few exercises and leaving the rest flat.

Bodyweight movements no longer come up with weight attached.

Swapping an exercise works out the new weight instead of carrying the old one across.

Dumbbell Clean & Press explains the movement properly now.

### 1.2 — 2026-08-09

A fresh look and a sharper coach:

 • New design language — refreshed typography across the entire app
 • Redesigned This Week view — see your whole week at a glance on the home screen, tap any day to jump to your calendar
 • Timed exercises fixed — planks and holds now always run as countdown timers, and you can ask Coach K to convert any exercise to timed mid-workout
 • Coach K's post-workout texts got personal — he references where your lifts were weeks ago, and he doesn't repeat himself
 • Steadier progression — weight suggestions now only cover lifts you're actively training, and increases arrive a couple small steps at a time, never across the board
 • Contact support & suggest a feature — right from Settings
 • Accuracy fixes — set logging no longer double-counts, workout history reflects exactly what you did

### 1.1 — 2026-07-02

Coach K can now talk back in real time — chat replies stream in as he types, and he can swap exercises mid-workout on command. Plus:
• Audio cues — Coach K announces your next exercise, weight, and reps as each rest starts, so you can set up without touching your phone (Settings → Audio Cues)
• Hands-free set logging — double-nod with your AirPods to complete a set (Settings → Hands-Free)
• Coach K's Read — an AI take on your last 8 weeks of training, with tappable deep-dives into every metric
• Plateau Breaker — spots lifts you're stuck on and suggests a one-tap fix
• Manual "Replace Exercise" — swap any lift for a same-muscle alternative you have gear for
• Specific gym machines in Equipment (Lat Pulldown, Leg Press, Rower…) in tidy groups
• Smarter workout generation — more of your familiar lifts, realistic rep/weight schemes
• Calendar & Home now show your past completed workouts
• Live Activity / Dynamic Island while you train — with a rest countdown that ticks in real time
• Your spoken pre-workout intro now references what you're actually working on
• Travel mode pauses your streak instead of breaking it
• Apple Watch reliability overhaul — stays on your workout instead of dropping to the watch face, and set completions sync even with a weak connection
• Coach K is more dependable mid-workout, and tells you exactly what's wrong on the rare miss
• Much faster launch and tab switching, plus a pile of bug fixes (no more phantom "Resume Workout?", disappearing calendar history, or stuck first-exercise timer)
