Kinfolk AR is and will be a true game changer in the education sector. The application combines interactivity and accurate information for a fresh outlook on Black education.

### 5/5 — Exciting AR experience

*2021-02-25*

I took this app out for a test run in Manhattan and made Ida B Wells as big as the Empire State. Cool experience, and fun to use, not to mention informative!

### 5/5 — Great new way to learn history, fun!

*2021-02-25*

I really like using this app, it’s a fun and educational tool that opens up a new world of interactive learning about black and brown history in a visual & artistic way. Love the sound interaction and option to record my thoughts on each monument. It even has an option for you to record and your own video narrative to friends& family. Definitely has so many possibilities and is easy to use.

### 5/5 — AR + History makes learning so much more exciting

This is such an immersive experience to have history come alive right in front of your eyes. I wish I was in school to experience this! 10/10 recommend

### 5/5 — Use this app!

*2021-02-24*

Intuitive, informative, and entertaining, what’s not to love about this app? The AR monuments are incredibly detailed and beautiful, and the information is jam packed with historically relevant information.

### 5/5 — Very well done!

*2021-02-24*

This app is beautifully done. I love the background visuals as well as the monuments. I think this is an excellent way to teach black and brown history in a fun and innovative way. I love the style and simplistic style of the app and hope to see it in schools soon. I think teachers and students will love it a lot. Beautiful way to teach, and amazing illustrations.

### 5/5 — Holograms > History Books

*2021-02-23, version 1.0*

Amazing concept! The animations ans music in this app are top notch and so is the curriculum.Very intuitive to use and the design is really beautiful. Incredible to think about how much more I would have been engaged in school if I had this growing up

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Boring

*2026-06-20, version 4.5.7*

Very boring and so it’s not for me

### 1/5 — Why is everyone building apps that require camera permissions

*2025-06-19*

It seems to me that people really just want to be right up in your business 24 hours a day seven days a week. Those of us that work in the privatized industry, that I've signed NDA that have specific clauses in them can't use apps like this. You might want to rethink what you're doing here.

### 1/5 — Shouldn’t this start in Africa?

*2025-02-12, version 3.2.15*

What’s going on here

### 1/5 — Fake made up history 100% garbage.

*2024-02-13*

This app is nothing but complete fake made up history. Events that never happened, people who never existed or just flat out lies. Taking inventors who are white and race swapping them and pretending that blacks did what the actual historical white did. It is the most evil, disgusting mentally insane app that exists on the App Store to date. The developers should be sued. It’s literally fake made up stories and it’s claim of “re writing history” is correct. Making it completely fake made up history stealing the accomplishments of whites and simply claiming it’s blacks because they have no real history to speak of.

This app should be banned.

### 1/5 — Made my Booty Hole bleed

*2024-02-07*

I cannot even begin to express how disappointed and horrified I am by my experience with the Kinfolk app. Not only did it make my "booty hole" bleed, but it also gave me nightmares about crawdads.
But what truly takes the cake is the fact that it somehow managed to steal my "no no card." I have no idea how this app could have possibly gained access to such sensitive information, but I am beyond furious.
I strongly advise against downloading the Kinfolk app, unless of course you enjoy pain, bizarre dreams, and having your personal information stolen. Trust me, it's not worth it. 0/10, would not recommend.

### 1/5 — Re-imagined

*2024-02-01*

Re-imagined….not accurate history. How come no info on Africans enslaving Africans for thousands of years and not stopping until whites forced Africans to stop enslaving kinfolk. Too historically accurate to be included?

### 2/5 — Ok

*2025-09-09, version 4.1.0*

I like the idea but there are no monuments anywhere near me :(

### 3/5 — No AR

*2025-08-20*

I love the idea of the app. Growing up and learning more about real history- stuff that was hidden from me as a kid, makes me wanna like the app. I want to learn more about stuff that actually happened. Not just fluffed up stuff that uplifts the worlds oppressors. However, i hate the AR aspect. I’m in my room and can’t find any open space. I just wanna learn about the history. I don’t care about putting it in my living room. This kept me from using the app. I didn’t even get to learn what I wanted to because I didn’t have the proper space. Also can’t use it when it’s dark out.

### 3/5 — Promising but needs work

*2025-06-23*

It’s impossible to use. It makes no sense. The whole downloading stuff just doesn’t work and is super outdated. Needs to be more user friendly. The map should just show all the different things automatically and let users put their own pins etc but it just doesn’t live up to the concept.

### 5/5 — This App Feels like Life is Strange

*2025-03-07*

This app gives ( Life is Strange ) vibes, the animations, graphics, colours, music.., I am so amazed !!

## Most praised reviews (9 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — James Baldwin

*2025-02-25, version 3.2.15*

Y’all should add James Baldwin. He deserves his flowers too. 💐

### 5/5 — Educational Inspiring

*2024-02-03*

I love the aesthetics and how the app is styled from colors to voices and music. This is a great idea to teach especially the younger gen who learns through interacting with technology.

I hope this app expands to Civil Rights history throughout the world in places like the Caribbean and Brazil.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2024-02-01*

Love learning about our black history for the month…. So sweet 💜💗💗💗❤️💜💗

### 5/5 — Great app!

### 5/5 — Very cool app!

*2021-03-22*

Beautiful art work and stunning application! This is such a great way for kids to learn! Every school needs to have access to it so that the next generation will have the rest of the story!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2021-03-03*

Lots of great information with a very interactive way to learn. Why did I not have this in middle school

### 5/5 — Fighting the erasure of Black Excellence

*2021-03-02*

This app is a fantastic and engaging way to learn about American heroes who have largely been overlooked or intentionally not mentioned in school curricula. This gives flowers and more to many unsung champions for equality. Plus it’s fun having a giant Frederick Douglass in my living room!

### 5/5 — Amazing App

*2021-02-28, version 1.0.1*

Very creative, a great learning tool, a must have for a growing mind.

### 5/5 — Enlightening

*2021-02-28*

What an awesome way to highlight buried perspective and heroes. This could change the way we think about history.
