### 2/5 — Terrible

*2026-08-07, version 6.18.1*

I was supposed to turn in the car and communication with them letting them the whole time I get kicked off the platform for being 1 hr late. After being told that it would be fine. Please don’t rent from them they don’t provide good service.

### 2/5 — Not worth it anymore

*2025-10-30, version 6.13.0*

Used to be a very good app to drive Uber with their cars. It’s become very expensive now. Unreliable booking. The car may not be in the location or even available after you book. The customer service is automated and asks very unhelpful questions if you are in a bind. “Can you send me photos that show the car is not there?” What? They refuse to come up with a system to let you use a key fob and Bluetooth to lock and unlock can be unreliable often too. Very sure that have stiffed me on returning the deposit for my last (absolutely will be my last) rental with them. They had no problem charging .79 for a late fee, but the remainder of what I’m owed for the deposit never arrived. Don’t use this app.

### 1/5 — Vehicle Wouldn’t start

*2025-09-28, version 6.8.1*

I contacted Kinto immediately via text and email since they don’t have a working number to speak to a human. 3 hours later I’m still in the parking lot of a store in Texas hot heat with no resolved. I asked for them to swamp me out with a similar vehicle and they refused insisted I end the reservation, knowing I would have to have another $200 for them to hold for a new reservation. They made no accommodation and I still paid for the 3 hours hours I was sitting in the parking lot. No new vehicle, no accommodations for the inconvenience and my current deposit is still being held. Now I’m missing work and have no vehicle and they do not care.

### 1/5 — Thieves

*2025-08-08, version 6.2.0*

Charged my card multiple times even after returning the car 2 months ago
Fuel was full still they charged $75, i never had parking ticket still charging me $110 plus $30 processing fee, over mile limit charges which nobody told and how you expect a uber driver to be mile limit
Lot of extra hidden charges
They will just loot you
Be aware

### 1/5 — Doesn’t Recognize Key - Doesn’t Unlock Both Doors

*2025-05-30, version 5.94.0*

This app is so incredibly inconsistent and frustrating- good concept but it needs work.
Connected to vehicle, but cars often don’t start because it doesn’t recognize the key. Checked for updates none for the app.

Close out app and try again same problem!!!

FIX this so we can drive the car

### 1/5 — Selfie with driver license

*2025-04-16, version 5.88.0*

I took 12 selfies with my driver's license in one day, but they rejected me 12 times. I think I've become a professional at taking selfies. I've tried them everywhere, in the light, in the dark, at home, outside. Am I really tired because I took selfies all day long? They weren't tired either, they refused all day long. I regret paying $35 for a background check.

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2025-04-05, version 5.86.0*

I paid $50 for the background check fee and I have literally uploaded a selfie of me with my drivers license 1000 times and they won’t accept and say that there is something wrong with the picture every single time. And it’s little things like my finger is covering part of the license information that is required.🙄”My actually face was not at the center of the selfie photo.” Rejected. “My full shoulder isn’t visible.” Rejected. “I can’t hold the license under my chin.” Rejected. This has been going on for 6 months now. Absolutely horrible.

### 5/5 — The Rev.

*2025-03-10, version 5.84.0*

I had a “No hassle,” experience with KINTO… once they verify you, you are good to go. Their customer service was always available and prompt in getting back with you. I 💕this company 😚

### 1/5 — Things to know before you pay their $35 sign-up fee..

*2025-03-01, version 5.82.0*

Buyer beware!

Things to know before you pay their $35 sign-up fee..

Unlike stated here, they have mileage limits! 1500/week for regular cars, 1750/week for EVs.. as a full-time Uber driver, I average 350 miles/day.. so this means a limit of 5 days per week of work, assuming ZERO personal use.

Oh, and on that note.. you won’t find any EVs available (at least in California).

Not trying to dissuade anyone, but you should know all the facts before paying your (non-refundable) sign-up fee.

Just got a car from AVIS for LESS than many of Kinto’s listings.. and that’s INCLUDING taxes and fees (which their listings do not).

### 1/5 — awesome but i dont recommend

*2025-01-29, version 5.78.0*

customer support is awesome and very responsive , you can only contact them via text message or email, and takes about 1-3 minutes for agent to respond via text.

i like everything about kinto , the app , big selection of vehicles to choose from .

but i will never use kinto again , doesnt matter what my circumstance is .

very expensive rental with limited mileage , only 1400k miles during the 7 day rental period and no option to purchase additional insurance coverage. anything can happen, someone breaks into your car , customer damages car , etc . then you are responsible for paying .

to make money with uber , you have to work the 12 hours permited from uber per day. minimum 300 miles you will put on the vehicle daily , with the limited mileage , it defeats the purpose of the rental .

i loved kinto but too expensive and they tried to charge me $1000 for worn out wiper blades and dirty damages that was already on the vehicle . they need to inspect vehicles bwfore renting them out , i received a vehicle with worn/torn out wiper blades and it started raining on the 6th day of rental . i reported issue when i dropped off and they tried to blame me . lol believe me , trust me , same price rent at hertz instead.

i spent $400 rental with taxes included .

$200 in gas , you must return vehicle full tank .

$60 uber to get and back from rental .

$$45 in tolls

i made $1150.00 in five days , 54 total hours worked.

profit approximately $650.

that is before tax , which will be much less . not worth the rental .

its worth it unless it was unlimited mileage plus option to purchase additional insurance coverage

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Unlimited miles

*2026-07-28, version 6.18.1*

Unlimited miles is a lie (BIG LIE)

### 1/5 — La peor compañía

*2026-06-17, version 6.17.3*

Mala atención,mucha diplomacia y jamás te solucionan el regreso de los depósito,no quieren dar comprobante de las milllas que supuestamente te pasas.!!
Sinceramente son abusivos y se roban tu dinero

### 1/5 — Held Reliable and OverCharged for Faulty Equipment

*2026-05-17, version 6.16.4*

The tire blew and the spare tire was busted. I wanted to return the car but since the spare was busted they advised me their team needs to tow. Which was going to be $250- out of my pocket + they keep the entire $200- deposit for the new tire.

I was told I was responsible for a new tire. I bought a new tire and put it on the car and they still kept my $200- deposit.

Racking my bill up for the rental to $1600-

That’s also just because I have AAA and had to order 2 tow trucks myself and they also informed me I can’t have my own tow truck return the vehicle.

I’m really upset working with this company.

### 1/5 — Incomplete Submission Process

*2026-04-09, version 6.16.0*

I need to resubmit my driver’s license but the interface does seem to have a way for me to do that.

### 1/5 — SCAM

*2026-02-25, version 6.15.1*

I rented a car from them and everything turned out fine in the beginning. The car interior was a bit dirty and it already had a smell that I couldn’t get rid of. It was my first and going to be the last time I’ll use them. Prior to end of my reservation, I cleaned the car fully and they proceed to file hidden charges that I was not aware of. I waited 5 business days for them to refund me on their mistake and then they gave me a run around answer.

I advise you to use a different rental company. Hertz is a better option than this company.

### 1/5 — Poor Vehicles and Predatory Practices for Rideshare Drivers

*2025-12-21, version 6.14.0*

As a rideshare driver, this is by far the worst rental experience I’ve had compared to Hertz or Avis. Kinto’s vehicles are high mileage, older than advertised, poorly maintained, and visibly worn or dirty inside. Like disgustingly dirty inside. Basic maintenance items like tires and wipers are neglected. Despite this, Kinto charges more than competitors that provide newer, safer vehicles, unlimited miles, and simple maintenance through vouchers at places like Jiffy Lube.

Kinto places a 1,400-mile weekly cap which makes it virtually impossible to earn a living. Any full-time driver is going to exceed that limit and be significantly overcharged. And unlike Hertz or Avis, Kinto forces drivers to return vehicles every 28 days instead of allowing automatic renewals, which creates unnecessary downtime and lost income.

The vehicles are operated through a mobile app that controls locking, unlocking, and starting the car which is extremely glitchy and frustrating. There have been times where I could not get in the car I rented and had to be switched to another car I did not want.

Given the condition of the vehicles and the frequent app problems, you will need to contact support, and when you do, be warned that there is absolutely no common sense whatsoever. Kinto’s biggest issue is their mindset, which becomes obvious the moment you interact with customer service. The company behaves as if it’s doing drivers a favor rather than recognizing that drivers are paying customers and that Kinto’s whole business model relies on these customers. Anyone considering renting should read the other reviews here and on Google before making that mistake.

Previous renters reading this should file complaints with Uber as well as the California Department of Consumer Affairs and the California Attorney General’s Office to review Kinto’s advertising claims and business practices. The fact that this program is associated with Toyota is just downright shocking.

### 1/5 — car rental

*2025-12-15, version 6.14.0*

the app really sucks and i haven’t even gotten to rent my car yet. i’ve taken a dozen photos with my driver license and my shoulders in the frame to make sure it’s me that is renting the car, but every photo has been rejected. this app is so stupid. i’ve even had someone take it for me and it’s still rejected. i really don’t think this app is worth it, at this point id rather rent through enterprise.

### 1/5 — Over charge

*2025-11-06, version 6.13.0*

They keep trying to find any little reason to charge me extra money, also want to charge me for a new tire due to the tire popping from normal wear and tear

### 1/5 — One of the worst rental companies

*2025-10-28, version 6.13.0*

Rented a car for 2 days and all they had was an electric that could only go 150 miles. Car had low air in one tire already, woke up next day to it being completely flat. They charged me $160 for a flat tire that was not my fault and they charged me a late fee returning the car because I had to get it towed. No human to speak to, can only contact them thru text. Never renting from them again.

### 1/5 — Unsafe Cars, Poor Policies, and Terrible Support - Shocked This Is Backed by Toyota

*2025-10-28, version 6.13.0*

I’ve rented from Kinto multiple times, and the experience has been consistently disappointing. On one occasion, I had a blown tire on the freeway. Instead of helping me go a mile down the road to a Toyota dealership for a replacement, Kinto decided to tow the vehicle 200 miles away and left me and my passengers stranded on the side of the road.

Across multiple rentals, the same issues repeat: bald tires, worn wipers, and vehicles with expired registration or outdated insurance that require me to call customer service every time. The cars often feel unsafe and completely unfit for rideshare use. A problem echoed in many other reviews here. It is only a matter of time before one of these vehicles causes an injury or death.

Unlike Hertz or Avis, which offer automatic long-term renewals and vouchers for maintenance, Kinto forces you to return the car every four weeks to start a new rental which is a huge inconvenience for working drivers. They also have mileage caps that make it costly for full-time rideshare use (expect around $250 more per week), and now they’ve added an up-front deposit on top of recent price hikes, all while driver pay has gone down.

For a program backed by Toyota, this level of neglect and poor policy design is astonishing. After years of personally owning Toyotas and Lexus, this experience has absolutely made me reconsider ever buying from the brand again.
