## What is Kit Manager?

Kit Manager gives you full control of your Roland SPD-SX from your Mac or iPhone. Build kits, edit waves, wire up pads, put together setlists, and back up the whole device.

Connect the pad via USB and everything on it is right in front of you: kits, waves, chains, system settings. No menu-diving required.

Kits and pads

Create new kits or edit existing ones. Rename them, set tempo and output level, reorder slots, copy and paste to build variations. For each of the 25 pads you get the full parameter set: wave assignment, level, pan, play mode, MIDI output, pad linking. Everything the device supports, laid out so you can actually find it.

Wave library

Browse every wave on your SPD-SX, rename them to something you'll actually remember, and delete the ones taking up space. Export waves directly off the device when you need them elsewhere.

Kit chains

Build all 8 kit chains with up to 20 steps each. You see kit names instead of slot numbers, so building a setlist actually makes sense. Drag to reorder, add and remove steps, enable and activate chains on the fly.

Backup and restore

Back up your entire SPD-SX to a folder on your Mac or iPhone. Restore from any backup when you need to roll back or move your setup to another device. You can also open and edit a backup directly, so you can configure kits, chains, and system settings without the device in front of you, then restore when you are ready.

System settings

The SPD-SX has a lot of global settings buried across its menu system. Kit Manager puts them all on one screen: display, MIDI, audio output, foot switches, pad sensitivity, V-Link, metronome, master FX. Change what you need and move on.

Demo mode

Not near your SPD-SX? The app ships with sample data so you can explore everything before you plug in.

### 5/5 — Amazing app!

*2026-05-12*

This app is way better than the on-board menus and first-party app. I finally have the confidence to reliably manage kits and wave files on stage during sound check. Well-worth the price.

### 5/5 — Lightyears better than the stock SPD app

*2026-04-13*

This truly is the best companion app for the SPD. It makes uploading and managing your tracks so much easier and has a lot of good bulk management shortcuts. I wouldn’t use the SPD without it. Well worth the 5 bucks.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.9 — 2026-08-21

Wave tags are now editable. Rename any tag from the Change Tag sheet in the wave library, and your labels stay with that card — handy when the factory names don't match how you actually organize sounds. DEFAULT stays locked.

Also fixed on Mac: the wave library no longer breaks its layout when the detail sidebar opens, and Change Tag now renders its options properly.

### 1.0.8 — 2026-07-16

Connecting to your SPD-SX is now faster and more reliable:

• One-tap connect when your device is plugged in
• Smarter folder selection that finds the right data automatically
• iCloud backups now download automatically, with progress and a Cancel button
• Clearer, plain-English messages when a drive can't be read
• More reliable switching between drives and backups

### 1.0.7 — 2026-06-01

• New volume switcher in the sidebar — jump between recent SPD-SX cards instantly
• Improved card picker with a proper "Choose Another…" file dialog and backup reminders
• Fixed a bug where tag names weren't read correctly from the card

### 1.0.6 — 2026-05-27

Wave Library now supports multi-select. Pick multiple waves at once to change their tag, duplicate, repair, export to a folder, or delete — all in a single pass. On macOS, select with Cmd/Shift-click and right-click for the batch menu. On iOS, tap Select to enter multi-select mode.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-05-21

This update improves wave tag management on macOS.

• You can now rename wave tag categories from the Change Tag sheet
• Fixed the Change Tag UI so available tags are shown correctly
• Fixed a macOS issue where the wave table layout could break when opening wave details
