## What is Kitchen Table Setback?

Kitchen Table Setback is the card game your family grew up playing, also known as Pitch or High Low Jack. Play against the computer, take turns on your own iPhones from anywhere, or pass one phone around the table.

HIGH, LOW, JACK, GAME
Bid 2, 3, 4 or Smudge. Lead your best suit to name trump, then take the points: High, Low, the Jack of trump, and Game. Make your bid or get set back. First to 21 wins.

PLAY THE COMPUTER
Choose Easy, Normal or Hard. Computer players bid, follow suit, protect their points and feed their partner. Play as partners with a computer teammate, or every player for themselves.

PLAY TOGETHER FROM ANYWHERE
Start a game, invite family and friends through Game Center, and take your turn whenever you're ready. You get a notice when it's your turn. Computer players can fill any empty seats, and if someone has to leave, the computer takes their seat so the game goes on.

OR PASS ONE PHONE AROUND
Pass and play needs no sign-in. Before each person's turn the cards are covered, so nobody peeks.

YOUR HOUSE RULES
- Play to 11, 15, 21, 31 or 52
- Low goes to whoever takes it, or whoever played it
- Stuck dealer, or throw the hand in
- Dealer can take the bid by matching it
- Trump anytime, or only when you can't follow suit
- Smudge on or off, and whether a Smudge wins the game
- Bidder goes out first

MADE FOR FAMILY GAME NIGHT
- Big, easy-to-read cards on a felt table in six colors
- Partners or cutthroat for 2, 3 or 4 players
- Hand-by-hand scoreboard and a summary of who took each point
- Wins, losses, bids made, and your record with each person you play
- Works on iPhone and iPad, in light and dark mode

No accounts, no tracking. Your stats stay on your device. Free with a small home-screen banner and a short ad after each finished game, never during play. A one-time purchase removes all ads.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-10-28

• Online games stay in step: an open game now checks for everyone's moves every few seconds and as soon as you come back to the app, so it never sits waiting on a turn that's already been played.

### 1.1 — 2026-10-25

• One tap back: the arrow at the top left takes you straight back to your games. Your game is always saved.

• Ending a game moved to Table options (the slider button), away from the back button, and it always asks first.

• Quick reactions in online games: tap the smiley at the top of the table to send “That was MY trick!”, “I hate you (lovingly)” and more. They turn on once everyone in the game has this version.

• Nudge: waiting on someone? Tap Nudge under “Waiting for” (or press and hold the game in your list) to send them a reminder that it's their turn. Once per turn, so nobody gets spammed.

• When someone else deals the next hand, the summary says the game isn't over, and the button reads Back to my games.

• Whoever started an online game can cancel it with no winner. Nobody wins or loses, and it doesn't count in anyone's stats. Anyone can still forfeit.

• Tap the scores at the table to see the full scoreboard.

• A shorter home screen: it lists only the games still going. Tap Finished games at the bottom to see the rest, tagged Won, Lost, Cancelled or Forfeited.

• Hints: when you play the computer, tap Hint for a suggested bid or card. Hints never appear in games with other people.

• Table options: the slider button turns hints and Show hands you missed on or off.

• What's new shows once after each update, and Settings has the notes for every version.
