## What is Kizamu?

Kizamu does something no other metronome app does: it tells you when to trust it.

Kizamu is both a metronome and a real-time tempo detector. Point the mic at a drummer, a rehearsal, or a recording and Kizamu detects the tempo as it plays, from solo instruments to full bands, showing exactly how confident it is so you always know whether to follow it or wait. Once locked, it also settles on a meter feel such as 4/4, 3/4, or 6/8.

THREE CONFIDENCE STATES
Gray means Kizamu is still listening. Yellow means it has a candidate but wants a few more bars. Green means it is locked, and it stays locked through tempo drift, drum fills, and brief silences.

A STANDARD METRONOME
No frills, just an accurate metronome when all you need is a steady click.

TAP TEMPO
Tap along to anything and Kizamu finds your tempo.

ANALYZE AN AUDIO FILE (PRO)
Point the mic at the room, or hand Kizamu a file. Pick a track, drag the bar to the section you care about, and Kizamu reads it the same way it reads a live room, with the same confidence states and meter feel. No microphone permission needed. Protected tracks, like Apple Music downloads, cannot be read: play those out loud and use the mic.

GROOVE SEQUENCER
Tap the dots to shape the click pattern. Each step can play, accent, or rest. Build a shuffle, a triplet feel, or a syncopated groove in a few taps. Patterns span up to five bars.

MIXED METERS AND ODD TIME SIGNATURES
Any time signature from 2 to 16 beats per bar: 3/4 waltz, 5/4, 6/8, 7/8, and beyond. Each bar of a groove can have its own meter: drop a 3/4 bar into a 4/4 groove and the sequencer, accents, and click follow.

SET LIST
Save a groove once, with its tempo, time signatures, subdivision, pattern, and ramp settings, and stop rebuilding it at every rehearsal. Organize grooves into named sets, one per gig, band, or student, and tap any groove to set the whole metronome.

TEMPO RAMP
Set a start, a goal, and how many bars to get there. Use a smooth ramp, or steps that hold each tempo for a set number of bars. Kizamu can play a cue at each change, and Practice Mode can wait until you hold each step on target.

MIDI IN AND CLOCK OUT (PRO)
Plug in any MIDI instrument and Kizamu reads the notes themselves: no microphone, headphones on, and the metronome can click along. Going out, Kizamu sends 24 PPQN clock with Start and Stop over USB or Bluetooth to more than one destination at once, and a tempo ramp carries your gear with it.

PRACTICE MODE
Set a target tempo and hit Start. Kizamu plays the click and listens to your instrument at the same time, reporting in real time whether you are on target, rushing, or dragging. When you stop, you get a score and a full breakdown: on-target percentage, mean tempo, standard deviation, and your largest excursion. With MIDI as the source, Practice reads your instrument directly: the click stays out loud and no microphone is needed.

SESSION HISTORY
Practice and detection sessions of 20 seconds or more are saved automatically. Review when you played, for how long, and the key statistics.

KIZZY, YOUR STAGE BUDDY (PRO)
Turn the header mark into Kizzy, a character who plays along. Pick the body, eyes, instrument, color, and motion. Kizzy moves with your groove, hitting bigger on an accent and staying still on a rest.

FREE TO TRY, PRO FOR KEEPS
Three detections and three Practice sessions are free. One of each refills every three days, capped at one. No account required. Tempo Ramp, mixed meters, History, and 10 Set List grooves are included. If Kizamu earns its place, a single purchase unlocks unlimited detections, unlimited practice sessions, unlimited Set List saves, audio file analysis, MIDI in and clock out, Lab view, extended meters, Kizzy, session timelines, custom names, CSV or PNG export, and more.

LIVE ANALYSIS (PRO)
The Lab view shows the detection engine's internal state in real time: what Kizamu hears, and how the lock forms.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.6 — 2026-09-04

Kizamu now speaks MIDI, both ways. Plug in any MIDI instrument and Kizamu reads the notes themselves: no microphone, headphones on, the metronome clicking along if you like, and a Note Monitor in the Lab showing every hit. Practice Mode works over MIDI too: play your e-kit, pads or keyboard while the click stays out loud. Going out, turn MIDI Clock on in the metronome and Kizamu sends 24 PPQN clock with Start and Stop over USB, Bluetooth, or network MIDI, to more than one destination at once. A tempo ramp carries your gear with it, an offset lines the timing up, and the clock can keep running while the metronome is stopped. MIDI is part of Kizamu Pro. The app also gets a calmer look: refreshed accent colors, cleaner labels, and new Kizzy colors. Plus fixes and improvements.

### 2.5 — 2026-09-01

Kizamu can now read an audio file, not just the room. Pick a track, drag the bar to the section you want, and get the same tempo and meter you would from the mic. No microphone permission needed. Free users also get one detection and one Practice session back every three days after their three starters; refills do not stack. Detection now always uses Full Mix, so the Drums & Beats mode and its bands are gone; Full Mix read drums more reliably anyway. Kizamu Pro can now sync session history and Set Lists across your devices through iCloud; it stays off until you turn it on. Plus fixes, including launch during a call.

### 2.4 — 2026-08-28

Kizzy now moves with your groove, hitting bigger on an accent and staying still on a rest. The tempo carousel can show a slower and a faster alternative at the same time, instead of one at a time. Plus fixes and improvements.

### 2.3 — 2026-08-26

Meter feel is more accurate and settles on a specific feel more often. Kizamu Pro adds 9/8, 11/8, and 13/8. Plus fixes and improvements.

### 2.2 — 2026-08-18

Mixed meter for grooves and set lists with built in grooves.
