I’ve only used the boroscope maybe 10 times and it’s never gotten better. It freezes up constantly and I have deleted…reload and erased from my phone. Makes no difference it still freezes up. If you turn your phone sideways the app malfunctions…you close and reopen the app to begin again. The equipment could be better and the app definitely needs a overhaul. I use Klein hand tools every day and they work great but this is a understatement for Klein to sell something so glitchy. It. makes you wonder why they would make such a product that doesn’t represent the company and quality that electrician’s have come to depend on and use around the world. I wouldn’t put my name (Klein) on the product if I knew it was second rate at best. Maybe this might inspire the company to take a look at what it’s selling and care to correct this product. You can do better. I rated this app/boroscope for what you sold. Something as simple as rotating the screen breaks the app. Zooming and panning is completely broken, quite a feat as the default implementation of the gesture handler in iOS does the right thing. The rest of the interface design is also embarrassingly bad. Sometimes loads up quick, sometimes not so much, and sometimes never quits loading. Extremely frustrating. I was wrong. 👎🏻 ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Planned obsolescence *2026-05-06, version 1.9.1* I bought my Klein ET16 borescope less than a year ago and it is now useless because Klein no longer supports it although I have used this app with it as long as I have owned it and now Klein is forcing me to buy their new WiFi borescope because they decided to not support the ET16 on iOS any longer. ### 1/5 — Fails to Save *2026-04-20, version 1.9.1* This is the worse app ever. The app fails to save video to the iPhone photo app. When saving the videos all the photos app plays back is a totally blurred video. When forwarding a video from the app to iMessage the video attachment is only a blurred image with no way to play the video. ### 1/5 — Unsupported app *2026-03-08, version 1.9.1* App no longer works. The scope might be decent, however I am unable to stay connected long enough to see if it’s a quality device or not. This app is absolute garbage. I will be returning it as soon as the retailer opens today. I would also advise anyone considering purchasing this tool to strongly reconsider. If I could rate it 0 out of 5, I would. ### 1/5 — Returned the tool for refund *2025-02-14, version 1.9.1* The concept is great. Use your phone/tablet as a display. The software is utter garbage. It is so bad I recommend buying the tool and looking at the software as a lesson on how much software developers can hate you. Klein developers are lazy. There was no effort to test the software in the real world. There was no effort to QA this software because the devs saw QA on the release schedule, didn’t know what it meant, so they skipped it. This software is so bad Apple should revoke Klein’s publishing cert and delete the app from everyone’s devices as an apology for doing this to us. Oh, and Home Depot, you’re just as much to blame here. How are you going to come out with tools that are dependent on an app and then not keep up with it? Tried reaching out to your horrible customer service for advice and Gee what do you know… Never heard back… your hand tools are awesome but your electronics are just not there, especially when the app is needed. Today my boss wanted to see how the scope/app performed . He was prepared to buy 12 for our work trucks. The app performed so badly that it made me look stupid for even suggesting it. Constantly crashing. The video lag, when it did work, was something I haven’t seen since early 2000’s dial up internet. I use Klein tools daily and have never been let down by your product this badly. Just installed so haven’t had much use yet, but all functions work and the picture is fine. ### 4/5 — Great Live Feed Video *2026-07-06, version 1.9.1* This app is rated low for its ability to share and view recorded videos, and that is fair. I can't speak on this as I didn't buy the tool for this purpose. For the singular purpose of providing live feed video to identify problems, the tool performs as expected. I was able to go deep into my engine bay and grab a bolt that slipped out of reach/sight. The flashlight feature with variable illumination is useful and rarely does the video lag. If you buy this tool and use the app, expect this tool to function well under these conditions. ### 4/5 — Works so far (day 1) *2025-08-07, version 1.9.1* I needed a long borescope ASAP to solve a customers problem. The first thing I saved to my phone was a picture, and after that any video I downloaded would have a picture as the first frame and show a black screen the rest of the duration. Deleted the app, redownloaded, saved a video before any photos, and now the videos play like normal. Downloaded a picture then another video and all came out normal. My biggest complaint is not towards klein but that the only supply house in town that had a borescope in stock charged me double the msrp. Took me 4 tries & a lot of frustration to get the app to show images from the boroscope… Nowhere does it tell you that, after installing the app, you have to go into the Settings > Klein Scope app and manually turn on “Local Network” access for the app to be able to load the ET20’s video despite being connected to the device-generated WiFi (“KT-Boroscope”) iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 17.2.1 ### 2/5 — Could be much better *2025-01-31* Tool itself seems ok. Software is what earns two stars. Send the intern that wrote this app to some training. Changing the orientation of the phone puts the controls off screen. ### 2/5 — What are they waiting for? *2023-12-09, version 1.9.1* As stated so many times. Great hardware, terrible app. Please update. I only got this a few months ago and the app worked well twice. I tried to use it yesterday but after 5min of fiddling-couldn’t waste any time on this. I switched to my (competitor) backup which works reliably but is cumbersome and isn’t made nearly as well, especially the snake. Klein is a good tool company I can’t understand letting this tool languish because of a lack of app update. ### 2/5 — Can’t tell the charge level *2021-11-29, version 1.8* The app is very basic but at least it serves the 2 most basic requirements I was looking for. 1) it shows an image on my phone so I don’t have to look at the device. 2) I can capture images and videos on my phone. On the down side there I have a few complaints. 1) It’s very basic, as in there are only two features, rotate 90 degrees and capture images. 2) picture quality is poor and no features to enhance it. 3)There’s no way to tell when it’s charged without unplugging the power. It’s not a deal breaker but it’s a terrible user experience. ### 2/5 — Can’t upload pictures *2021-11-13, version 1.8* Once you take a picture and try to hit the send button the whole app just shuts down.
