Losses will slow you, but not severely. There are a few big issues however. Firstly, the grindstone mechanic is very tedious and to an extent throttles progression (not as severely as gold costs for revive second game though.) another issue is the paradox login seems to glitch after your first play, which makes it impossible to load if you start it online thereafter. However, if you load in airplane mode, then you can turn online back immediately after no problem or play offline. Ironically the second one is online only. A lot of people likely quit outright without knowing this workaround. I strongly suggest you patch it, the third issue is sliding spites on occasion and it’s not quite optimized for various screen sizes yet. These bugs however are surely fixable, which if done, would certainly give me reason to rate it higher. But I can’t give 4 or 5 rating to a game that’s good, but only works after you fiddle with settings. I may have the patience for that, but others won’t. Fix that, and I’ll rate it higher. ### 4/5 — It’s alright… also where’s 2? *2023-04-11* Lots of graphical bugs, but it’s pretty alright. There was the sequel on the AppStore a while back (I can still download it since I downloaded it before), but you guys unlisted it. Since you guys aren’t working on that, at LEAST give this game an update to fix it. ### 3/5 — I used to love this game... but.. *2023-01-05* I used to play this game all the time many years ago in hs. i downloaded it recently for nostalgia reasons, however right upon opening you can see they didn't even bother with fitting the game right on newer phones. it's way too big and there's not option to fix it. this gives issues with not seeing the coin number correctly, not seeing levels on the edges and struggles to pressing certain buttons which are out of screen or barely. sad, but i'm deleting this game. until they fix it or update it, i wouldn't pick up this game. TLDR: game buggy, don't bother ### 4/5 — Aspect ratios matter! Add option to adjust UI *2021-06-09* Not all iPhone users have the newest biggest screens, this once beautiful game used to run flawlessly aside from the minor glitch every now and then, but with this larger aspect ratio, I can’t conceivably play this. It’s not fun. Please fix this. I can’t see the full screen! I’m running an iPhone XR and this game is just disappointing. It feels like you broke it on purpose just so I would have to buy pen and paper 2, which is not cool guys. I paid money for the app, let me continue to enjoy it. ### 4/5 — Very fun but could use a touch up *2019-10-15, version 2.35* To be fair I have read recent reviews about how the screen doesn’t fit with the iPhone X series but playing in landscape mode is no problem. Either way, fun and enjoyable. ### 3/5 — Great game, weird bug *2017-09-22* It’s quite an enjoyable game however there is a really weird (and annoying) bug. The monsters and status effects slowly travel across the screen until they are completely out of view. All you see are their shadows. It doesn’t break the game, but it makes it really hard to keep track of status effects! Please fix, Paradox! ### 2/5 — Bugs, bugs, bugs *2017-07-17* As many people have mentioned, this game is riddled with bugs. The enemy sprites and status effect animations will move off screen to the right. I clicked out of the game thinking it would save automatically. It saved my characters' levels and my quest completion, but did not save the items I had bought or the level of my blacksmith. Like what? This is an old game, how could it be so broken? ### 3/5 — Just came back and... *2017-06-21* After have played through in the past I came back to try the DLC. On the IPhone 5S the monsters float and move to the right until there off screen. Then to attack them you have to click the shadow where they were. And for some reason the standard attack icons move down and to the right, dislocating from there squares. ### 4/5 — Beautiful buts guys c'mon =_= *2017-04-26* Would give this a five for various reasons people have already pointed out and while I can still enjoy the game these glitches people were talking about ... why are they still here ? Lol I assume these minor issues would've been fixed by now at least ... seriously ?? while minor it diminishes the play experience at times .... can you guys do something about the issues that people have been trying to get your attention on for what seems like eons please ? We spent money .... this game deserves a five, seriously guys fix it ... k thanks bye. ### 3/5 — What Happened? *2017-04-08* First off, I love this game. I put easily over 100 hours into it on multiple devices a couple of years ago. I decided to re-download it after I beat the second game. However, I want to know what happened. This game hasn't had an update since 2015 and there are still many graphical bugs. Almost anything that moves floats off screen, including (but not limited to): Enemies, Primary weapons in combat, pets (like the mana-steal robot), beds when resting, and sprites in the blacksmiths menu. It has been over 2 years. I'm disappointed that Paradox can't take the time to fix these simple bugs. If this were fixed, it would easily deserve more than 5 stars. If you can get past the bugs, it's still a great game. ### 4/5 — Decent little game for brief play *2017-04-01, version 2.32* Its a nice little game but the gameplay is repetitive and basically turns into a very very long grind at level 30. It has also taken to annoying the heck out of me at startup with trying to force logging in to Apple's GameCenter. I don't use GameCenter and I don't WANT to use GameCenter. ### 4/5 — A great game, but it needs some fixes. *2017-01-08* As a experienced player of P&P, i can say this is a very good game for those who want a D&D styled adventure. However, when i converted from using a iphone 4S to the 6S, i noticed an issue that causes the enemy and weapon sprites to move away from the screen. It would be better to play if the bug was patched. ### 2/5 — Great game but bugs *2016-12-16* Long time fan of this game, such a unique concept that I think is very well done especially for a mobile game, however after coming back to it after awhile, there's a bug that causes enemy sprites to slowly shift off screen as well as your melee attack icon, while far from game breaking it is very annoying as I have already mis-targeted enemies multiple times because of it, definitely 5 stars if fixed ### 4/5 — Fantastic game but glitches *2016-08-14, version 2.32* I love the game and I've spent countless hours on it but I just redownloaded it and there are some pretty gross glitches like the status effects slide off the screen same with the enemy models. The dragging Sprite isn't a terrible big issue but it would be nice if they could come back to this game to fix this issue. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — I bought items in KoPaP2 *2022-11-06, version 2.35* I had bought the Necromancy class along with the Druid in Knights of Pen and Paper 2. Suddenly I can’t find it on the App Store and it won’t play anymore when I download it from my previous purchases. Why is the 2nd edition of this game gone when I spend real money on the game? ### 1/5 — Unplayable on newer phones *2022-06-08, version 2.35* Just paid $4.99 to install this game on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and the game display is stretched past my screen edge, making the game unplayable. I was also unable to create a Paradox account because the register button wouldn’t click. It was also requesting birth date again, but over where you’d select your location. Very fun on the Nintendo Switch, but I’ll be requesting a refund for this app. ### 1/5 — Not so free anymore *2019-01-02* I downloaded this and unlocked everything and now I come back and there is a new “diamond” currency that you need to unlock the furniture and characters I already had. I click restore purchases but the extra dlc stories and classes I already had don’t come back. The best part about this game was that gold could be used to purchase almost everything. Not money is needed even if I had already paid to unlock it. It’s sad. This was a fun game too. ### 1/5 — Beware! iPhone XS Max users! *2018-10-12, version 2.35* Let me start with that I really enjoyed this game when I had it on my iPhone 6. I owned this on another Apple account, so I recently repurchased it and to my dismay the game is totally unplayable on the XS Max. It’a extremely zoomed and unplayable. Heck, I can’t even log into the game because of it. I feel like the game’s aspect ratio was never updated to newer devices. I had to go through 3 live chat supports to get a refund because it wouldn’t let me do it manually. TL;DR DON’T BUY IT IF YOU OWN AN IPHONE XS OR XS MAX. ### 1/5 — A great game that Behold now neglects *2018-07-12* I am a big fan of Behold Studios’ games. They have made some of my favorite experiences on this device. That being said, once they release a game they tend to move on too quickly. If you have a newer device, do not expect it to work well with this game. My iPhone X doesn’t crop this game well in portrait mode. This has only gotten worse over the life of my phone and the most recent update was just too much. It wasn’t great before but now it is too far to be enjoyable to play. And I don’t even know if they ever fixed the bug where the sprites would drift to the right. I just dealt with that for years thinking “oh they’ll fix it eventually”. Don’t hold your breath. ### 1/5 — What's up pen and paper? *2017-05-09, version 2.32* What was the best game out there just became the worst, bought pen and paper 1 and two, two has just been removed from the App Store completely, I woke to some vague message ( capitalist intrigue to be sure) from paradox in regards to some kind of compensation, don't buy this game,, when someone hits the mark unfortunately corruption is trailing fast behind, nothing last forever folks :) ### 1/5 — Seriously? *2017-05-06* Aside from the annoying glitch where your enemies drift off screen slowly, this game's characters are awful. Like just pointless sexism over and over again. Ugh. A dungeons and dragons game where they make jokes about how women are dumb and their only character trait is caring about their looks? Real classy you guys. This could be a cool game if the developers wanted to make it relatable to all players (and women are play phone games the most you know), instead of white guys who have nice guy complex and cry while swiping through tinder. ### 1/5 — A lot of glitches *2016-12-24, version 2.32* Please update this game, there's way too many glitches. Enemies and DOTs moving off screen, enemies going invisible (it's not an enemy ability, they're glitching and disappearing with only their health bar showing). The player attack icon on the fighting menu moves off screen. Just so many glitches. If you're going to keep your game on the App Store and, more importantly, if you're going to CHARGE MONEY for a game and have in-app purchases in that game, you HAVE TO issue updates to fix things like this. Both of the Knights of Pen & Paper games are full of glitches and bugs (the second game crashes CONSTANTLY) and the lack of updates is disappointing because they're both incredibly fun games. Please devs, fix your games! ### 1/5 — A wonderfully fun game utterly broken *2016-07-25* I'm a long time fan of this game and have enjoyed off and on for well over a year. Normally I have no problems with giving a game like this 4-5 stars, but several glitches exist in the iOS version that range from annoying to completely unfair. If the sprites aren't moving off of the screen (enemies and status effects included), then the definite lack of grindstones is the most annoying, which prevents you from upgrading the blacksmith early in the game without spending all of your hard earned gold. Even late-game, you'll grind gold and drops just for those stones in order to not waste time or money on failed upgrades. This is a great game and under normal circumstances, I'd recommend it, but without a fix of some sort, I can't give it more than it deserves. ### 1/5 — Fun game but bugs they won't fix *2016-04-13, version 2.32* Playing on iPhone 6+. The enemies move off the screen to the right as you attack them. Their shadow stays in place still. The attack button also is not shown correctly. Some levels this gets rather annoying. You can play it for hours or just do a couple quick quests on your lunch break. Love the unlockable classes. Highly recommend to anyone who loves a good old fashioned RPG with D&D rules and environment. There's a lot of great pop culture references in there also. Great game!
