## What is Knit The Chart?

Knit The Chart brings together everything you need when knitting from a chart: following your pattern, making your own charts, and keeping track of your own changes. All in one calm app, with nothing to distract you.

COUNTING WITHOUT LOSING YOUR PLACE
The app holds your place, so you can focus on your knitting. The active row is clearly marked and the app dims the rest for you. You count row by row with a large minus and plus button, and you never lose count. Put your work down, and when you pick it up you are exactly where you left off.

DRAW YOUR OWN CHARTS
The full version includes the creator: draw your own charts with colours, stitch symbols and your own legend. Start with an empty grid, or import a photo or PDF as your base. Fill in square by square, draw straight lines, fill areas in one go, and rotate, copy or mirror whole sections. Pick up colours with the eyedropper, swap two colours throughout your drawing, and save your favourites. Add note lines and text to your drawing to mark sizes. And enter your gauge from your swatch, so your drawing takes on the proportions of your real knitting instead of square boxes. You keep your drawing in your library and use it like any other chart, or print it to PDF.

SEVERAL CHARTS IN STUDIO
Does your pattern consist of more than one chart? In Studio you bring them together in the right knitting order. For each chart you set the knitting direction, the repeats, the stitch counting and the display. While knitting you swipe from one to the next.

STRAIGHTFORWARD, EVEN IF YOU KNIT FROM PAPER
Do you normally work from a paper pattern? Knit The Chart is built to be easy to start with. Ten tutorials take you through it step by step, and on every screen the question mark gives you an explanation that fits what you are doing at that moment.

ALWAYS WITH YOU
The app works on iPad and iPhone, with clear screens. That way your knitting goes everywhere with you.

WHAT THE APP DOES FOR YOU
Creator - draw your own charts, with colours, stitch symbols and your own legend
PDF and photo - add your pattern as a PDF or as a photo of a paper chart
PDF reader - read your pattern in a built-in PDF reader, make annotations, use a reading ruler and add counters
Automatic stitch recognition - the app recognises the stitches in your chart and counts the runs for you
Row by row counting - a large minus and plus button, and the app marks your active row
Repeats - set a repeat area and the app counts the repeats for you
Separate row counters - add extra counters that follow your chart or stand on their own
Reminders - set a reminder in a counter, so you never miss a step
Markers - place your own markers and colours on the spots you want to remember
Straightening - rotate a crooked photo until it sits square, accurate to 0.1 degree
Gauge - enter what you counted on your swatch, and your drawing takes on the proportions of your real knitting
Notes - separate notes per project, and note lines with text on the chart itself
Pan through wide patterns with the scroll buttons
Available in Dutch and English

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.5 — 2026-07-22

This update is all about the creator, where you make and edit your own charts. The creator is part of the full version.

New in the creator:
• Notes. Put lines and text on your drawing, for example to mark sizes. You can show and hide them.
• Colour tools. Pick up a colour with the eyedropper, swap two colours throughout your drawing, and save your favourite colours.
• Gauge from your swatch. Enter what you counted on your swatch, in centimetres or inches, and your drawing gets the right proportions.
• Back to how I opened it. A safety net for when an edit turns out not to be what you wanted.
• Mirror a selection, and drag individual stitches.

Also:
• On the start screen your projects and your charts now have separate tabs.
• When you create a new chart you choose whether to start blank or use an image.
• Rename by tapping the name.

And clearer to use:
• The explanations behind the question mark are now complete, in the Studio, in the creator, and when framing and gridding.
• The button that turns a photo into a real chart is now called exactly that, and you get a message at the moment it matters.
• Error messages appear next to the field where the mistake is, in red, instead of at the bottom of your screen

### 1.0.4 — 2026-07-15

This update makes Knit The Chart more complete and easier to use:
New: the creator to draw your own charts, with colours, stitch symbols and their own legend. You can also import an image and use it as a base for the creator.
Edit chain is now called Studio: everything for a pattern with several charts in one place, with the knitting order, repeats and the display per chart. For each chart you can add settings: repeats, and let the app count the runs.
Ten tutorials to guide you step by step, now also reachable from within the app itself.
Help that fits: on every screen the question mark gives you help for what you're doing right then.
Several improvements to the PDF reader that make it even easier to add notes, use a ruler or create extra counters.
Plus many improvements to the phone and tablet layout that let you move through the screens even more smoothly.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-06-23

The frame around your chart is now thicker and easier to grab, so you can position the edges more quickly.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-06-21

New: floating counters in knitting mode. Drag them anywhere across the full height of your screen, and pick a size per counter.
New: extra large tile size (XL) in the PDF reader.
Stitch counting: you can now select a single stitch.
The free version now supports PDF import. Importing photos and images is part of the full version.
Various small improvements and better landscape behavior.
