### 2/5 — Not like the older version

*2026-06-05, version 3.0.20*

Which was intuitive, had tools you could customize. It was a joy to use.

Then you came out with this one. Not half as good as the original.

And, as I decided to bite the bullet and see if the benefits of the original were buried, I tried to import all the patterns I had in the original. No way to do that.

So I still use what you call legacy version, I call it perfection. The new one? Meh!

### 2/5 — Womp womp

*2026-05-20, version 3.0.20*

If you are a cross stitcher wanting to use this app to mark up your digital patterns, pass on this app. I can find no way to mark a single stitch. Groups of stitches- yes. Also, the app does not accurately identify symbols. I’ve spent hours researching and trying to get it to work properly. Support and tutorials are extremely lacking.

### 3/5 — Not bad but could use some improvement

*2026-03-12, version 3.0.20*

It’s nice but it’s not intuitive on how to reset the number on the side, or reset if you accidentally mark up the page. Except if I rotate it but then I think I loose all the marks I’ve made? Just some uxui/design stuff to hash out. Otherwise I am paying for the subscription so I’ll still use the app. &
$30 a year isn’t bad.

### 5/5 — Long time user and lover of kC!

*2026-01-28, version 3.0.20*

This app is everything a knitter needs for pattern management and keeping ones place in a chart and/or pattern esp if you have many instructions to follow at one time. I’m dyslexic and can have trouble tracking a line across a row so this app is a god send. Yes it does take time to learn ALL the in and outs of the app but that’s only because it offers so much. I use this app everyday.

### 5/5 — Russian language

*2026-01-23, version 3.0.20*

Добавьте пожалуйста русский язык! Нет смысла покупать подписку, потому что ничего непонятно.

### 5/5 — Perfection

*2026-01-21, version 3.0.20*

Before I found Knit Companion, I took pdfs of my patterns and marked them up on my iPad. I thought I was so smart. And I was. KC just happens to be genius. I was immediately addicted to how easy it was to use.

### 2/5 — If it works it works great!

*2026-01-20*

Sadly mine seems to freeze a lot. Specially if I want to exit my projects. Since I knit multiple projects at once I have to exit quite a lot, to get to the other projects. Also the loading times are really slow generally. Its not my internet other compatible apps work great.

### 5/5 — Love!

*2026-01-03, version 3.0.20*

Love this app! It has everything and is easy to use. There’s a lot of things I will probably use as I do more complicated things but even for simple patterns it’s got all you need!

### 3/5 — Pros and cons

*2025-12-29, version 3.0.20*

Lots of great tools. A bit tedious to learn to use them all, and I forgotten by the time I start my next project. The one thing that really counts down in stars is that this does not sink between devices. Why oh why does it not sync between devices. That would be a game changer.

### 3/5 — Scribble not working with Apple Pencil Pro

*2025-12-19, version 3.0.20*

All is well except when using my Apple Pencil Pro in a new iPad mini, it does not bring up the scribble options like my Apple Pencil does on my older iPad Pro. Please update.
Thanks

### 5/5 — So helpful!

*2025-12-18, version 3.0.20*

I absolutely love this app. It helps me keep track of all my patterns and helps my keep my place easily! My only complaint is I wish I could mark a project “complete”. I would love to have a running list of completed projects with the time it took to complete listed.

If that feature exists already, disregard. But I can’t find it

### 3/5 — Great but…

*2025-12-13, version 3.0.18*

On the whole a great app and works well. I especially like the fact I can highlight where I am and use the vertical line to score through the column I’m not using. But since the last update I seem to have my project listed over 100 times, and none of them will open so I’ve had to print the pattern and try and figure out where I am as I can’t access my project anymore.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Bait and switch

*2026-07-23, version 3.0.20*

So sad about this app, I paid for the lifetime version, and now they’ve made enough changes where that version isn’t available anymore. I was able to creat charts and change colors of my markers, flip designs and merge them together. I loved it, until they got my payment for a lifetime, then they made all the features only available if you pay a yearly subscription. So my PAID subscription now I get the FREE version that everyone can get, so what did I pay for??
I understand it’s the way of the world to make money, but how many people did they lie to about the lifetime version? I wouldn’t pay for this app again even if it did my knitting for me, burn me once, shame on you…I’m not getting burned again.

### 1/5 — knitCompanion

*2026-07-01, version 3.0.20*

I cannot get my patterns moved from the older app..to the newer app…I do not have Ravelry and only a few patterns were in Drop Box..they did move..all the others are just in the previous app on my previous Ipad.

### 1/5 — Awful UX

*2026-06-26, version 3.0.20*

I found this one of the most complex apps I have ever encountered. There is nothing intuitive about it whatsoever. So many places to go and look for tutorials on their website but even there it's confusing. It should be renamed knit confusion.

### 1/5 — Awful UX design m, better options out there

*2026-05-19, version 3.0.20*

The app feels clunky and unintuitive, and the overall UX design is honestly very outdated compared to what you’d expect from a paid tool today. Navigation isn’t smooth, and simple tasks take way more tapping and figuring out than they should.

For something that’s positioned as a premium knitting companion tool, it feels like it hasn’t kept up with modern app standards. There are plenty of other knitting apps out there that are easier to use, more polished, and frankly, cost less.

At this price point, I expected something much more streamlined and user-friendly. I wouldn’t recommend spending the money on this one when better options exist.

### 1/5 — Deleting

*2026-01-28, version 3.0.20*

-10 out of 10 stars. Do not recommend.

### 1/5 — This Sucks

*2026-01-26, version 3.0.20*

This is not intuitive at all. I have watched videos over and over and checked out the Knit Companion Ravelry group and googled. Every answer in Ravelry is that KC will “ open a ticket”. This is unacceptable. I would like to use magic markers feature to change colors in a chart. I am paying for the yearly subscription so this feature is in my plan. I have been trying to go this for several days to no avail. This is a WASTE OF MY MONEY.

### 1/5 — Charged twice for app

*2026-01-22, version 3.0.20*

I downloaded this app from the App Store on January 1, 2026 and was charged $32.69 then I was charged the same amount again on January 19, 2026.

### 1/5 — Don’t pay for full version if you want to keep using it!

*2026-01-12, version 3.0.21*

Just paid for full version and now it won’t do anything at all! Won’t even let me change the page on my pattern and won’t let me close the App down and can’t even restart my computer. Also doesn’t synch up from computer to phone app, if you mark something on one it doesn’t show on the other so your progress can’t be tracked. But that was when it was actually working, now it’s not doing anything at all so guess that doesn’t matter anymore.

### 1/5 — Rude and horrible

*2025-11-07, version 3.0.12*

This app keeps crashing, saves 100 files of the same file and I am not even able to open any of them. If the app crashes it takes me back to their Home Screen and I’m not able to open the file at all. So I need to remember where I was in the chart and download a new file and start again.

I contacted there customer service because I wanted them to have a chance to fix it, and they were rude, and talked to me like I’m an idiot. They tried tellling me it was because there app needs to create a folder in iCloud and not on my device which I tried to tell them it was on iCloud but they won’t listen and keep proceeding to be rude and talk down to me.

$60 a year and this is how I’m treated I’m appalled because $60 for this kind of thing is a lot of money. If only they were polite and actually tired to help I would not be writing this review. Because they have been rude and won’t listen to how my files are (I’m technically advanced so I know how to changed my files around, which I have and lots of people have trouble on my device because I have it set up for me and what works for me, so I get this is confusing for people not used to it) but I know my device so they should listen and be respectful.

Be wary of them and find another app otherwise you’ll be like me and lose $60

### 1/5 — Clunky and overpriced

*2025-11-06, version 3.0.12*

Difficult to use and limited compared to others. Way overpriced. Look elsewhere.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I rely on this app

*2026-08-26, version 3.0.20*

I upload all my patterns to KnitCompanion. I used to use post-its on paper to keep track of my progress, but my post-its would lose their sticky and fall off, and I’ve knit and purchased so many patterns over the years, I’d need some big old binders to keep them all. I much prefer the app. I think it’s brilliant, and I happily pay the annual subscription for access to all the bells and whistles, which I use regularly.

### 5/5 — So Useful

*2026-07-16, version 3.0.20*

Since downloading and purchasing the paid for version, I’ve only used this app for my knitting. It is especially useful for charts, be it cabling charts or colour charts - or both together.
It’s quite complicated at first because it is so comprehensive in its features and I’m still nowhere near as proficient as I’d like to be. It took me quite some time to unravel how to add my extensive library of magazine patterns. I ended up downloading VFlat scanner and from its ‘share’ I can now directly choose knitCompanion.

### 5/5 — Great for knitting

*2026-07-06*

I started using the paid version on a complicated cable pattern. It's takes a bit of time to get the charts set up, mostly because there is a learning curve. It is definitely worth the effort. The videos and resource guides are great and the customer service is really fantastic. There are so many helpful options in the paid version, such as easily keeping track of a certain number of increases after a number of rows. I combined the cable charts so everything is on one page. I've added reminders at certain points. I can easily jump between pages of the pattern as well as between patterns. I highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Game changer!

*2026-06-18, version 3.0.20*

This app has helped me be so much better organized and saved paper! I love it!

### 5/5 — Game changer

*2026-04-21, version 3.0.20*

I’ve been using knitCompanion for almost 3 years now, and knitting has never been as good as it is now. I can have multiple projects and work on whatever I want that date by picking up my knitCompanion and I know exactly where I am and what I need to do. I love it

I wish we could just buy it once rather than one semi annual renewal. I think that’s a bit steep.

### 5/5 — Easy to use but a few small bugs

*2026-04-13, version 3.0.20*

I’m currently using KnitCompanion for the first time, to make an overlay mosaic afghan, and for the most part it’s great - much, much better than printing charts on paper. The Magic Marker feature that counts the stitches is the best…when it works. Sometimes the counts are missing or incorrect, so I have to do a quick check before I start each row to make sure. When that happens, deleting the Magic Markers and re-creating them sometimes fixes the issue, and sometimes it doesn’t.

It’s still worth the subscription price, but would be nice if the counts were 100% accurate.

### 5/5 — WOW!

*2026-03-31, version 3.0.20*

I’m a fairly new crocheter. I was looking around for some good apps to mainly use as counters - I was using the files app to read my PDF, and an ancient row counting tool that just didn’t work too well on my iPad. I looked around the app store and everything is so outdated or just lacking any user friendly interface or real functionality. I started considering buying a mac so I could make my own app! (I’m a developer) So color me surprised when I found out about this app - it does everything all in one, and is pretty customizable! I’m able to easily track my stitch count, rounds, and have my PDF open for the pattern! Not to mention all the other features like leaving comments and being able to mark the page. I was fully prepared to build out my own custom tool, and I am so happy someone tech savvy who loves yarn arts did what I would have done! Great app.

### 5/5 — Best Knitting Helper

*2026-03-26, version 3.0.21*

I just love how this program grows along with me. In the beginning I just used the counting features but now love being able to move the pattern instructions around so that I don’t have to keep flipping back and forth And when I work with charts I know right where I am. Fabulous program and I have so many beautiful hand knits to prove it. Sewdelighted

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2026-02-22, version 3.0.20*

This app has been so helpful in keeping track of rows, zooming in on charts and taking the stress out of following a pattern or where you stopped. I love it and would definitely recommend!

### 5/5 — Learning To Navigate

*2026-02-10, version 3.0.20*

I like the app but having some difficulty learning how to use and navigate.
