But the most annoying thing is you have to put in your VIN every single time you want to look at your car’s manual. Why have a registration process and a Garage allowing you to save your vehicles if you can’t also save the VIN. Seems like it only covers this modern junk, no actual VWs.... ### 1/5 — Have to put in VIN repeatedly? *2021-04-09, version 3.1* Thought this would help since the 2018 I bought was missing all the manuals and I really don’t want to spend $50 for something that should be with the car. I added my car to my garage and put in my VIN #. Surprise! You have to log in every time (no touch or Face ID!) AND. you have to put in VIN # EVERY time. Garage doesn’t save it. Love the car, hate the app. I need an app that informs me about the car, not an app that allows VW to collect data on me. Waste of time ### 1/5 — Great Idea Poorly Executed *2020-01-21, version 3.0* Very limited models available. At the very least make interactive owners manuals available for the last say 5 years or more and the data be will naturally grow. Focus on videos for new models, the owners manual database is far easier, important, and useful anyway. As large as VAG is, this is ridiculously small amount of effort to fix. The app is glitchy, tried to make a new account, the “accept our terms” checkbox was out of view. So I had to create an account on my iPhone to login on my iPad. The whole thing is a nightmare. ### 1/5 — The idea is great, but the app is useless *2019-10-14, version 3.0* Having an interactive digital owner’s manual is a great idea. Sadly this app gets everything wrong. The app asks your vin, but seems to only use that as a security check to make sure you’re entitled to view the copyrighted manual. It doesn’t make a tailored experience to show you the specific features of your vehicle’s trim. The app also seems to need your vin every time you use it. It doesn’t remember your car. Any time an app needs you to log in with more than touchID on a regular basis that’s a complete failure to begin with. Not remembering your car is the same as other apps not remembering your user Id. Also there aren’t many videos - it’s like they abandoned the effort after launching. It’s a great idea VW. Please invest in this app and make it flawless and useful. It’ll probably pay for itself in your CSR’s time alone. ### 1/5 — Nice idea.... but problematic *2019-08-07, version 3.0* As my Arteon Owner Manual will not fit in the glove compartment (I know! WTH?!) I installed the app for easy reference. Unfortunately it requires the VIN to be entered with every search or use which gets old quickly. Other option is the Quick Start guide which would be AWESOME if you could zoom on the images. As is it is nearly impossible to read the info provided. ### 2/5 — Why is VW so out of the loop? *2019-07-26, version 3.0* 1. PDF versions of owners manuals should be available online. Period. End of story. 2. Since VW doesn’t get the logic of #1, at least allow the VIN of car(s) added to my garage to be saved. You’d think the powers that be would want to make it as easy as possible for owners to learn about all the cool features of their cars! ### 2/5 — Hope it gets improvements *2019-05-28, version 3.0* I can’t believe you have to enter your VIN# every time you want to view the owners manual info! When you add a car to your garage you should enter the VIN and then it should be remembered when accessing information dependent on a vin. Also, it would be nice to be able to download the manual so you can view it even when you have no data connection on your phone. ### 2/5 — Confusing user interface *2019-05-17, version 3.0* Why does it encourage me to add new car to garage every time. Once I’ve added my first car (statistically most people will only own one VW) the. The UI should default to showing me info about my car, not make it hard to find that info. I must have a lower end of the car and much of what they described on these videos does not exist in my car. They should have an option of choosing which level you have also ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Useless app *2025-01-03* This is nothing more than a glorified shortcut to the VW web page, which has an unbelievably bad UX… on par with the late VW interior designs. ### 1/5 — Golf 2017 Sportwagen *2024-07-07* I love my car so much except one thing. It’s that nightmare infotainment system that lasts only 1 year, then when it’s updated, navigation stops working and I have to take it to the dealership where they charge me over $1000 for the whole panel to be replaced inside the glove box. Just why?! I’ve done that twice already and have been living without navigation for years now because I am not gonna pay for the infotainment system “repair” year after year. First one was covered by the factory warranty, but the second time, I had to pay out of pocket because it was a legit repair according to the dealership. Why is it a repair? I didn’t break anything! it’s just a map update! I am the victim of this faulty, update system of Volkswagen company because after paying for the car, why do the customers have to pay for the software updates? Raise your hand if you own an iPhone. Do you pay Apple company every time your iPhone updates? You already paid any future software updates when you purchased the phone, right? I don’t wanna replace my car because I love my Golf Sportwagen so much because of the color because of the decor I put in because of the power of its engine because of the cute spacious hatchback! Volkswagen company owes me a brand new infotainment system that I never ever have to pay for any more stupid yearly updates! I have never owned a car newer than 2002 so although I knew about all the great features and technology I was not used to having them in the car with me. This app has everything I needed to get used to having all the features I’ve never had. I tell ya ) Anyways, being a young whipper snapper, I told her "Mom, I got this!" BAM! Shot down. I was wrong. My mother then remembered "some site" that provides assistance. Since I have an iPad basically glued to my hand day and night, I thought I'd do some searching when all the sudden I saw Knowing Your Volkswagen on the App Store. I shared what I discovered with my mom and she said, "Ah Ha! Knowing Your VW ...that's it" I decided to download and check it out to see if I could find any help in relation to the RNS 315 Audio. I did. The video tutorial was great help. Way jazzy. This thing is awesome. When I finally sell my 2001 Pontiac Grand AM, I am getting a VW and since this app will forever be on my iPad, I will use it. Will also inform all my friends of this App who own VW.
