## What is Knowingo?

Knowingo is a guided book reading app for busy readers. Start with a clear summary, follow the ideas that matter, and ask the book when something is unclear.

Explore nonfiction books through carefully prepared summaries. Each summary is organized into parts so you can follow the ideas, pause whenever you need to, and pick up where you left off.

When a question comes up as you read, ask the book. The answer is based on what the book says, so you can keep reading without searching elsewhere. Lost track of a name? Tap a person in the text to see who they are and where they have appeared so far. Look up unfamiliar words without leaving the page.

With Knowingo, you can:

• Browse and search books by topic
• Read a summary first, then follow its main ideas
• Ask the book a question while you read
• Tap a name to see who that person is
• Look up words as you read
• Resume what you were reading
• Explore available research paper explainers

Knowingo provides original summaries and reading guidance. It does not provide the full text of the original books. Available books, languages, questions and person cards depend on the editions published in the app.

New accounts can try the reading library for seven days. After the trial, a Knowingo Reading subscription is required to read full summaries. Monthly and annual plans are available. The price is shown before you confirm a purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.16 — 2026-10-25

Press and hold now selects one word first, a bar of choices sits over it, and your account is kept in order.

Select a word first
Press and hold a word in a summary and only that word is selected. Drag a handle to take a whole sentence. A bar of icons appears over your selection: Look up and Ask for a word, I don't understand, In the book and Share for a sentence.

Share
Make a card is now called Share. Pick a passage and send it as a card.

The book's language, by its title
On the Books tab the language sits beside the title. Tap it to switch. Each language keeps its own shelf and your place in it.

Signed in elsewhere
If you sign in on another device, this one tells you and signs out. Signing out now ends the session on our servers too, and sign in errors say whether the connection dropped or there were too many tries.

Also new
The first time you open the app, the short wait now has Marco reading the wordmark, and the Books tab is never blank. If the very first check of your membership was cancelled, the store is asked again.

### 1.15 — 2026-10-24

Knowingo now runs on iPad, a summary opens into the whole book, and the book you are reading follows you onto the Lock Screen.

On iPad
The same Knowingo, set in a calm reading column. Turn pages with the arrow keys or the space bar, jump between tabs with Command 1 and 2, and search with Command F.

Ask the whole book
Reading the whole book? Ask it a question at the foot of the page. The answer comes from the book itself, with the places it found.

Into the book
In a summary, spread two fingers on a paragraph or tap The whole book at the top, and you land where that paragraph comes from in the book. A line in the margin shows how far it runs. Tap the strip at the foot or pinch to return.

Your book on the Lock Screen
Add a Knowingo widget to the Lock Screen or the Home Screen to see the book in progress, a line from the part ahead and how far along you are. A tap opens it where you left off. Remove the widget any time.

A reminder when you stop halfway
Stop halfway through a book and Knowingo can send one line from the book in the evening. You choose whether to allow it, and can turn it off in Settings.

Turn a passage you love into a card and send it straight to Instagram, or to Facebook Stories, with one tap. The buttons appear only when those apps are on your phone.

Also new
Knowingo now speaks 繁體中文, 日本語 and 한국어. Illustrated books have their own shelf on the Books tab. For You starts from a book you read and says how each pick relates to it. Read lets you choose the summary or the whole book right where you tap it. Settings are grouped by what they control. Interests are learned from what you read, so signing up takes one step less. Knowingo has a new icon. Korean books have their own shelf, and each book language is named in its own script. When the app is in 日本語, the welcome screen shows Japanese books. Members are no longer sent to the subscription page while the app is still checking their membership, and long paragraphs in the whole book scroll smoothly.

### 1.14 — 2026-10-20

This update lets you read whole books in Knowingo, not just their key ideas.

Read the whole book
More than 1,600 titles can now be read cover to cover. Tap Read and choose the whole book or the summary; the book page shows how long each one takes. Whole books sit on Reading now with their own progress.

Stories in pictures
Shoe Dog, Bad Blood, Midnight in Chernobyl and more are now illustrated, with a short line under each picture. In these books, a person's card shows their face as you meet them. Prefer text only? Tap a picture to hide pictures in every book.

Ask without lifting a finger
Listening on a walk or a drive? Turn on the little ear next to the player and just ask. You can also say "pause" or "go back 30 seconds".

Stuck on a sentence?
Press and hold it, tap I don't understand, and get a plain explanation right where you are.

Also new
A light touch of haptics on tabs, playback and buttons, with a switch in Settings. Your place now follows you between the app and the web. New reading fonts in English and Chinese. A soft background sound under narrated books. And a round of fixes, including smoother purchases.

### 1.13 — 2026-10-15

A calmer reader. While you read, nothing sits on the page; tap once to bring up a quiet row for listening and asking. Listening now lives in one small capsule at the bottom: pause, ask, or swipe up for the full player with speed, accent and a new sleep timer. Ask the book out loud, while listening or just reading: tap the microphone and speak, and the answer is written into the page and read to you. Prefer typing? Tap the keyboard in the capsule, or choose Type a question from the more menu. Chinese answers have a new, warmer voice, and every answer speaks at a more natural pace. Related books open as a floating web, and the bookmark at the top of a book page saves it to Read later in the Me tab.

### 1.12 — 2026-10-12

• Books we are still making now show on the shelves with an hourglass on the cover. Tap I'm waiting too, and we will tell you when the book is out.
• Traditional Chinese books have a shelf of their own.
• Related books show before you finish a book, and each one says how it relates: it argues back, goes deeper, or puts the idea to work.
• Save any book's text to read with no connection. On cellular, you can save the text only and leave the audio for later.
• When you are offline, the app now says so plainly instead of saying your trial has ended.
• Rate Knowingo from Settings.
