However, it seems I’m not connected at times even though my settings are correct. My driving looks good in the app. ### 3/5 — Speeding is not me *2024-04-13, version 2.7.4* Any time I’m near bridges the app lags or something and ends up flagging me for speeding. ### 3/5 — Useful, but not perfect *2024-03-19* I appreciate the ability to gain a discount based on driving and to see how you drive, including the counter on distraction-free driving to give incentive to not use your phone while driving. However, I’d say the app is not perfect. Some issues I’ve noticed: 1. The Projected Policy Discount has never worked (at least for me). It has always said “Calculating…” and I’ve used this app for well over a year. This is the main issue that is consistent and a bit frustrating. 2. When recording drives, I notice that it shows that I have frequent hard breaking. Now, I know that there are times that hard breaking does occur, but the frequency of them seems too often to be considered true. As a result, the hard breaking category is a much lower score than others, affecting the overall discount. 3. I know it’s not necessarily the app’s fault, but a lot of the recorded trips are all pieces of whole trip or, it’s only recorded near the end of a trip, when I’ve already driven miles beforehand. In short, the inaccuracy of the app makes it hard to gain any more than a 10% policy discount, which is a bit disappointing when you’re trying to be a mindful driver and save some money. **Developer response:** We appreciate your feedback about Know Your Drive app. We'll be sure to share your experience with our team. Kind of creepy that they always need to know where you are and why you aren’t driving. This needs to be fixed ### 2/5 — This App Is A Big Come-On… *2024-02-14* The app is very arbitrary- and frustrating! I actually tried to stop using it since it is so annoying and I am not really comfortable being tracked ALL the time, but I CONTINUALLY got messages informing me that they could no longer track my drives, etc. and to do this and do that to fix it, even though I deleted the app! I tried again because I decided I wanted the discount (AmFam ain’t cheap); almost immediately my discount went from 20% to 10%, no explanation. It has not been restored. Today I noticed that once again my distraction-free driving was dinged, with an explanation of phone use in the car. I NEVER use my phone in the car…EVER! I was up to 183 distraction-free trips when suddenly—bam! Many trips are not recorded, or I am marked as the passenger even though I was the driver, and vice versa. What a scam—I don’t believe ANYBODY really gets a good discount for long, because the app is set up to make sure that never happens. It is simply an excuse to operate a tracking device and that makes me kind of nervous. It is a real pain. I’m thinking about canceling again. **Developer response:** Hi there. Thanks for reaching out! ### 2/5 — Very inaccurate *2024-02-08, version 2.7.4* I suspect that this app just randomly assigns distraction and hard braking determinations. It seems there is no relationship to those assignments and the actual driving. ### 1/5 — Hate this app. *2024-01-28, version 2.7.2* I absolutely hate this app. It keeps telling me that my phone is not communicating with Amfam. It tells me to erase and reload this app at least twice a year. I do not drive due to health reasons but do maintain my drivers license if nothing else for my ID and also veterans discounts at the stores. It does show me as driving and sometimes also my wife and me both driving at the same time on the same route in the same vehicle. She always complains about having to take my phone and enter me as the passenger. My wife and I are considering dropping Amfam simply because of trying to maintain this app. ### 2/5 — Not great *2024-01-25, version 2.7.2* The app can’t tell when you are a passenger 50% of the time, so if you don’t check it basically every day to remove the trips that weren’t you behind the wheel, you get docked for other people’s bad driving. Not a great solution for tracking good/bad driving behaviors. ### 1/5 — Terrible (and a scam) App *2024-01-20, version 2.7.2* This stupid app continues to show that I was driving distracted while my phone is stowed. Whether the phone is in a bag, a pocket, it doesn’t matter. Then, after you get to where you are going, don’t touch your phone for at least 10 minutes, or the freaking app will also mark you as driving distracted. I don’t know what incompetent group of people set up the algorithms for this app, but obviously it’s a scam for AmFam to say you could get a 20% discount based on your driving using this app. Total garbage. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Always Driving but I’m not *2024-12-28, version 2.7.5* Always records me as the driver even when I’m not driving. No help from the online help in resolving the issue. Driving my prices higher when it shouldn’t be. Horrible app. ### 1/5 — Completely useless and inaccurate *2024-07-11, version 2.7.5* This app records phone use even if the phone screen is off. It records speeding if you are transitioning from say a 50mph zone to a 40 mph zone even if you are in the process of slowing down during that transition. It records hard braking even if you are not braking hard. This app is wildly inaccurate and will never get you to a worthwhile discount on your policy. ### 1/5 — Bad data collection… *2024-03-28, version 2.7.4* This app just logged my last three trips as distracted before I left my driveway. I really don’t like an app that repeatedly says things about my driving that just are not true. ### 1/5 — Not an accurate app *2024-03-16, version 2.7.4* While flying in an aircraft my phone constantly said I was hard breaking. How can this correctly give or collect data if it can’t even detect when I’m not on the planet…….Even when I am driving my car it’s says I’m distracted when I’m just using maps to get to and from work… I don’t brake hard beyond always stay two car lengths away and I don’t want to replace brakes so I always take my time and drive under speed limit….. ### 1/5 — Can not use gps *2024-03-08, version 2.7.4* I drive a lot for my job and every time I use gps it counts against me. I’ve contacted support their answer is simply don’t use gps. 🤷🏻‍♀️ When i get to my destination it says I’m still driving. It is not fast enough for being an app. I’m always on the go I do not have time to wait until the app decides I’m not driving anymore 10 minutes after i get to my destination. Hopefully it saves someone money. ### 1/5 — Too intrusive and needs attention all the time *2024-02-28, version 2.7.4* Won’t work on older IPhones, too intrusive and requires too much maintenance. If I’m a passenger and playing on my phone, I need to remember to open the app and remove the drive or it’ll ding my discount. I’d rather have a device that I can install in my car that talks only to my home WiFi. They say you can save up to 20%, with at least a 2% savings regardless of driving habits. But is that worth your privacy and sanity? Not for me. ### 1/5 — Frustrating *2024-02-23, version 2.7.4* These apps are never accurate about speed, braking, etc. Your discount is based on inaccurate data. Plus these companies make money selling the anonymized data they collect about drivers. It’s not worth the frustration. ### 1/5 — Ugh *2024-02-13, version 2.7.4* If you work where you are in a vehicle off road or in emergency situations it counts as a drive. Even on places there are no roads or as a passenger. Dream on if you think you will get 20% or better rebate even if all your driving is in the green. ### 1/5 — It’s basically a scam *2024-02-12* When signing up for AmFam I did so because the rates were lower than what I was paying from another company. The thing is when talking to an agent or rep I wasn’t told after a year regardless of what my driving showed in the “Know Your Drive” app my rates were going to go up and that I wasn’t going to continue receiving that discount rate from the app for having a god driving record. So I went from a 10% discount to a 5% discount now to a 2% discount and I’m now paying more with AmFam than I was with the company I left them for!!! I don’t feel the “KYD” app serves any purpose because there isn’t a benefit to having it. The app doesn’t keep accurate data anyway it would reset just because you wouldn’t have to touch it but they say you can go into the app and delete a drive but if you know you haven’t done anything why do I need to check the app after every drive. It got to more more frustrating to have the app than not!!! **Developer response:** Hi there. The thing is I don’t drive somewhere daily. I am retired and stay home a lot. Why does it tell me every other day I haven’t installed this. Tempted to just pitch the app. !!!!!!
