Kodist is a point-and-shoot camera app that produces lifelike film photographs.

Kodist eschews all AI enhancements by processing data directly from the sensor:

- Your shots are never too evenly lit

Your shots are rendered with your choice of professional film color profiles. They deliver natural, balanced colors that make your photos stand out in a sea of phone photos.

◎ Photos in 1 step

Point and shoot, and that’s it: your photo is saved to your iOS Photo Library, and the camera gets out of your way. You can review your last photo and adjust for a different exposure or focus.

◎ Tap and swipe for focus/exposure

Tap the viewfinder to focus and expose on a point of interest. Tap and hold to lock it in.

After you tap to focus/expose:
- Swipe up/down to adjust exposure
- Swipe left/right to manually focus — a focus peaking overlay helps you identify the area in focus

I loved it, I had a challenge with “make a certain amount of shots to unlock new film filter”, it was a cool simple app until “pay to win” model kicked in. Now all the unlocked effects are off, my favourite Lomo is behind a paywall. The app is well-made, love everything about it but $7 is a little too steep for a nostalgic basic product. Especially when Huji exists, which does essentially the same thing. Shame but I choose to uninstall.

Replaced Zerocam with this because it’s free. I’d like to have manual focus control and some kind of exposure tool given this app tends to overexpose the photos

◎ Manual focus

After tapping to focus, you can now swipe left/right to adjust the focal distance. Zebra lines are overlaid to help you see where you are focused. We hope you like having manual focus control while keeping Kodist's lightweight camera experience.

◎ Technical improvements

* Your photos are now oriented more accurately and reliably, especially when you take portrait and landscape shots in quick succession.
* Photo orientations are locked when you press the capture button — the orientation won’t change if you move the device after capture.
* Photo timestamps are locked to the moment you pressed the shutter.
* When photographing a person, colors now subtly correct toward natural skin tones.
* Kodist now launches 50% faster — from 0.87s to 0.41s on an iPhone 15 Pro. Not huge, but we like it ;)

Hi there! This update brings Kodist to more people in their language, including Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean. We also updated the English variant for Australia.

Also, we re-branded some of the film emulations in the app, and made their parody names and background stories more on point in each localization. And we fixed some UI elements that weren't properly localized.

Last but not least, you can now open Kodist with Siri with a localized natural phrase, such as "Open Kodist".

This update also fixed some issues with the app:
* EV adjustments wouldn't work for the front-facing camera. Fixed.
* Film selection would reset to default after launching the camera from the Lock Screen. Fixed.
* In certain zoom levels, the image might have a hairline black strip on an edge. Fixed.
