### 2/5 — Stop exercise

*2026-07-03, version 1.5.202606*

You’ve probably received this comment dozens of times, but I just realized that I can’t stop a scheduled exercise that has already started. The cops were here and they wanted me to stop it. Embarrassing.

### 4/5 — App doesn’t work

*2026-03-02, version 1.2.13*

I have 2 of the same genny’s. One lets me change exercise times and the time of day. The other won’t let me adapt of change any of that. Not sure if it’s a firmware or older board (one is 2 years older). Please assist.

### 2/5 — Mediocre app at best

*2026-02-14, version 1.2.12*

This app is not great at all. The invite user link does not work and when you select to send feedback, the app brings you to a Microsoft page that says the form does not exist.

Additionally, there is not a practical way to have a user login because while I have the generator serial number, I don’t have a PIN. Even the installer struggled with this and had to basically reinstall the generator.

### 3/5 — Several functions do not work

*2026-02-05, version 1.2.12*

The app has several flaws.
1) Under the exercise menu it shows that you can edit the date and time of the exercise program. It does not work. It says it’s saving the changes but it simply does not.
2) Under the controller menu it shows you can edit the date and time. I’m away from home and due to daylight saving I tried to charge the time to correct it. But it won’t save the corrected time.
3) Another big issue is due to the extreme cold weather the generator failed to start for the weekly exercise and sent an error code. The app will not allow to clear the error. I had to bother a family member to go to my house and manually access the generator to clear the error. I find not being able to clear an error remotely very disappointing, disruptive and rendered the generator useless.

### 3/5 — Improving

*2026-01-11, version 1.2.12*

I used the OnCue app for about 10 years and found it adequate. The early version of KEM didn’t seem to have full functionality. I still don’t see where I can add people to get notifications without giving them full control via “location users”…and the location users functionality doesn’t work. I can invite people, but their invitation link doesn’t work. Then when I try to delete their invitation and add a new user, the old pending invitation pops back up. I also don’t see an obvious way to provide feedback on the application in the app. It needs a lot of work.

### 3/5 — Not an improvement over the previous app

*2026-01-07, version 1.2.12*

This app moves backwards with communication capabilities over the previous. When we lose power in our area, we also lose internet service. When the power is restored and internet is restored, it’s a guess whether connection with the OnCue server will also be restored. Twice now after power / internet service was down and restored, the connection with the server was not restored. Even after multiple attempts at completely shutting down and restarting the network, no success. To restore the connection, I have to perform a “pretend” firmware update on the generator and both times, that process restored the connection. I never had to do this with the old OnCue app.

### 1/5 — So many promises not done

*2025-12-24, version 1.2.12*

I’am not able to connect either, and I see this problem from last April, a bit long, isn’t it! Not very useful, please do an effort. Energy management is very important in winter, like now that we have no electricity since 6 hours…

### 1/5 — No longer useful

*2025-12-04, version 1.2.11*

Didn’t work for a month! Then you now can’t schedule maintenance runs! Called for assistance and was told that feature is no longer available.

### 1/5 — App is terrible except for newest units, ignore basic functions

*2025-12-02, version 1.2.11*

This app, developed after a PE company took over the generator unit is a disaster. For all but the newest generators you can no longer edit the exercise time and they still refuse to enable a simple daylight savings time code update. The only way to use this app for older generators is to is to buy an $1100 updated card, no wonder people hate PE takeovers.

### 1/5 — NOT reliable. Generator<—>Kohler loses connection requiring generator reboot

*2025-11-27, version 1.2.11*

After 4 months of frustration after a new generator I've determined this to be a complete failure (1 star). See latest edit (#3). Read through to the updates below. Note that my generator is connected to the internet via a WIRED connection — NOT via WiFi or cellular. Therefore, comments stating that it is a WiFi, or other connectivity issue is incorrect. In summary it is NOT reliable. When it works it’s fine. However, when it doesn’t you’re “in the dark” and WILL require a visit to the generator to fix the problem. Details: In the two months since I’ve had a NEW generator installed, 3 times (about once every two weeks) the APP says that it cannot communicate with the generator and retrieve current status or issue “alerts”. I.e. the generator is reported as “offline”. This is NOT a local network issue with my LAN/internet as 1.) the APP can communicate with Kohler (or whatever the app communicates with), and 2.) the generator can talk with my LAN/internet (verified via IP address). A reboot of my internet service doesn’t fix the issue — i.e. having the generator re-establishing a connection to the internet/Kohler. In both instances, only a reboot of the generator via the “reboot” option immediately fixes the problem. So if you rely on this APP and its infrastructure to monitor your generator, you’ll be disappointed.

EDIT #1: after the 3rd “connection loss” in the 2 months since the generator was installed I’ve given up rebooting the generator. Just watching to see when it is restored. Generator is fine — does its exercises, etc. Downgrading by 1 star. EDIT #2: after nearly 30 days being offline I decided to do my own [networking] “problem determination”. a.) First, I noticed that the generator “hangs on” to its last DNS assigned IP address. Common usage with certain devices. The downside is that upon a network/router reboot, the generator isn’t obtaining a NEW IP address and the current one it has is/probably invalid. Solution: assign a “static” (DNS reservation) IP address to the generator’s MAC address in the router. Reboot both and the generator will always be assigned that address. Work’s fine. However, it will still lose connection hours, days, etc. later. b.) computer devices will generally reconnect when the internet connection is lost and then restored. E.g. unplugging the wire or rebooting the router. The generator will not do this unless it is given a “hard” reboot — when it is “forced” to reconnect. Therefore, in my opinion, the fault lies in the firmware (currently V3.04) within the generator that is maintaining the connection. The APP is fine — as long as the generator’s connection is maintained. Kohler Home Energy has been contacted, and detailed information provided, as per their “Developer Response” to assist in solving this problem. Edit #3 (27-Nov): I finally determined the source of _my_ "offline" issues. The Kohler app infrastructure (i.e. servers) continually _updates_ the _generator's controller_ to communicate with a _different_ [OnCue] server IP, which is then also recorded in the database that the app communicates with. Once they go out of sync, you're DOA and will require a reboot of the generator to get them back into sync. This was determined by monitoring the IP addresses in both the generator (OnCue server) and what the app reports (Connected IP address) for over a week. I found that (in my case) four (4) different server IPs (x.x.55.225, x.x.152.229, x.x.147.23, x.x.40.191) were used. Think of it as telephone numbers between you and another person that keep changing. The updating occurred at varying intervals ranging from several times a day to at least daily. It was OK for about a week and then when they went out of sync, I got a hard "offline", which never recovered. Note: the above observation(s) have been provided to Kohler support. So when you get the "Offline" status check _both_ (generator and app) IP addresses. If they are different, that's the problem.

### 1/5 — First Kohler, then OKTA, now Rehlco

*2025-11-23, version 1.2.11*

Make up your mind! Kohler keeps changing the sign in requirements. Ever since they switched to Rehlko or whatever it’s called, I’ve been logged off my generator via the Kohler Energy Management app! That has been since Oct 21, 2025! Calls to customer service are ZERO help - the individuals I have spoken to - after 45 minutes on hold, know nothing about how to get connected. All they know how to do is insinuate that it’s something I’m doing wrong. The app worked at first. Then they started using OKTA for sign in. That took a few days to figure out but it worked. Since Oct 21, nothing.

### 1/5 — Connected but NOT CONNECTED!

*2025-11-20, version 1.2.11*

Ever since I updated to latest version the app shows connected but the alert shows disconnected even though my generator says oncue connected!
I tried everything from disconnecting n reconnecting battery, multiple reboots of my router and still not connected! I wish I could revert back as that version worked with no issues! So I now have no control of my generator. This new version is trash!

### 1/5 — Worthless

*2025-11-09, version 1.2.11*

App keeps losing the connection for days at a time for no apparent reason.

### 1/5 — Now they discontinued support for older generators .

*2025-11-06, version 1.2.11*

This upgrade is awful. Buy a generac

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Shame app

*2026-07-26, version 1.5.202606*

If you forgot your password you have to call for support.

### 1/5 — Web site will not come up.

*2026-07-22, version 1.5.202606*

I just paid almost $16,000.00 for this unit and I cannot get the website to download on my phone I do not know what I’m doing or not doing. I’ve downloaded many websites in my day and I’ve never EVER had one not respond like this isn’t. I trust that generator works better.
My dealer was absolutely outstanding.
Todd and Phil are outstanding men.

### 1/5 — HORRIBLE APP

*2026-07-19, version 1.5.202606*

Someone needs to be fired. For sure the person whose idea it was to switch from a functional app to a TOTAL NON FUNCTIONAL APP. Same username, same password of always used. Cannot sign in. This is the hardest app I’ve ever had to deal with. It’s total garbage. Hard to navigate. PLEASE GO BACKTO THE PREVIOUS APP.

### 1/5 — Offline

*2026-06-25, version 1.5.202605*

Offline over a day

### 1/5 — Great when it works but lacks features

*2026-03-31, version 1.2.13*

Scheduling doesn’t work half the time. Never updates. Easier to just go out and do it yourself at the controller. Server doesn’t respond over half the time. This app/server needs work. Cellular connection always drops.

### 1/5 — Still Disappointed After 10 Months

*2026-03-06, version 1.2.13*

Last year, I had written a previous review regarding this app along with an update of my ongoing experience. Neither was complimentary and oddly enough that original review appears to have been deleted. In any event, after having converted to this app from OnCue last year, my experience with this app has been nothing short of maddening. It is not hyperbole when I state that this app spends more time offline than being accessible. I receive multiple daily notifications advising it is offline, then back online, then back to offline, back to online, so forth and so on. Never, ever experienced these connectivity issues with OnCue over the course of the two prior years we had the generator installed. I’ve had conversations with Kohler support which proved to be fruitless (sorry guys, but it is NOT an internet issue). I’ve been thru several firmware updates that seemingly fix the problem for a week or two only to have things revert back to intermittent connectivity issues. So, my original one star rating from 10 months ago remains unchanged. The generator itself is fantastic; unfortunately, the app is utterly craptastic.

### 1/5 — Remote fault Clearing

*2026-03-03, version 1.2.13*

It would be very useful if I can clear the faults on the app. The generator is located on an off grid cottage and some times is shuts down because it’s cold. Any update? When are you going to add this? Give us the same access that pro has.

### 1/5 — Remote fault cleaning

*2026-01-19, version 1.2.12*

It would be very useful if I can clear the faults on the app. The generator is located on an off grid cottage and some times is shuts down because it’s cold

### 1/5 — Terrible app, disconnected from the generator and won’t reconnect

*2025-12-31, version 1.2.12*

The Kohler Energy Management app is a terrible replacement for the prior app, On Cue. This app disconnected from our generator, and there is no way we can figure out to reconnect it. Our contractor says to contact Kohler, and Kohler says to contact the contractor. Very frustrating.

### 1/5 — Unable to update Controller Time

*2025-12-26, version 1.2.12*

Personally I found the old OnCue app more reliable/stable from reading parameter info to performing change requests to generator.
This app has improved over the last year but one issue I still have is submitting a time change request. Twice a year I have to manually adjust the time on the generator (RES20A-installed 2016) due to DST. Request either time outs after 3-5 minutes or simply returns to main screen with the time set to what it was prior (no change). Frustrating.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Manager on my phone

*2026-07-24, version 1.5.202606*

Kohler’s Energy Management System is the best, it lets me know what is happening with my energy system wherever I am I can control it from my phone!

### 5/5 — Koehler app

*2026-06-17, version 1.5.202605*

Great app keep you informed

### 5/5 — Installation

*2026-05-15, version 1.5.202604*

Two days ago I purchased my generator … Today is Friday, Both Technicians showed up before the scheduled time, we talked about exhaust diffusion should be out of the back. We talked about the propane tank placement. And next thing you know, the propane tank was delivered while the generator was being installed. After the installation, they ran the generator auto start test, I signed off on the documents and downloaded the App . I’m So Pleased with the outstanding service.

### 5/5 — Good functioning app

*2026-04-22, version 1.5.202604*

I’ve been using this app for 1 year now, and I must say it has operated and functioned very reliably. No lag, functions work as described, no glitches, no offline time. I have a top tier residential HVAC system, and that company’s app is totally terrible. Kohler energy management app is reliable. Thanks for the great end user experience!!

### 5/5 — A very good App

*2026-01-07, version 1.2.12*

The On-cue system was a complete joke and never connected. I found the new app to be very helpful —all the information that people have complained about not being there is in the app. I have instant update status of generator running whether I’m home or not. Online time is pretty near 100%. I have a direct wire from the router to the controller board.

### 5/5 — Good app.

*2025-12-13, version 1.2.12*

Excellent generator. Good app.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2025-10-07, version 1.2.10*

I have had a great experience with the app, it has worked perfectly for the past year and half. And they update the app regularly fixing bugs every now and then.
The people that are complaining are most likely having internet and WiFi problems. I live way out in the country and have Starlink and everything works fine.
I never used OnCue so I can’t speak for it, but this app works great.

### 5/5 — Kohler Generator

*2025-08-25, version 1.2.10*

Just bought a Kohler backup generator and had it installed. Had a few minor hiccups, installed the app, had to call and the customer service representative was very helpful. Walked me thru the entire setup and it works as it should. Very pleased.

### 5/5 — Good functional app!

*2025-08-14, version 1.2.9*

The app is functional and helpful. Not sure where the low ratings come into play. Good user-ability, no lag, does what it says it should, reliable. Never had an issue. Ever.

### 5/5 — Online connectivity

*2025-05-25, version 1.2.8*

Have had several issues with app not be able to connect with unit. Did not experience this with. Prior app.
