## What is Kord?

You can't play a wrong note.

That's the whole idea. Tap a pad and you get a full chord, not a note. Every pad
on screen belongs to the key you picked, so there isn't a wrong one to hit. You
literally cannot mess it up.

I built this because I kept getting ideas in my head with no way to get them
out. Learning piano to test a four chord loop is ridiculous. So is opening a DAW
and staring at an empty grid.

WHAT IT DOES

Tap chords with one finger. Pick a genre and the pads become a progression that
already works together. Play a melody or a bassline over it and those snap to
the right notes too. Record it, layer up to four tracks, drop in a beat, and
export a WAV when you're happy.

The chords aren't generated on the fly. They're hand voiced sets, the kind you
find in a hardware chord box, so a Cmaj9 is voiced the way a keyboard player
would actually reach for it instead of stacked up mechanically from the root. I
went through every set note by note against the source tables. Found five that
had been typed in wrong. Fixed them.

GENRE LAB

Pick a mood and a style and Kord invents a set of chords you've never heard,
voiced properly, playable straight away. Roll it again if you don't like it.
This is the part I use most.

42 INSTRUMENTS

Grand and upright pianos, electric pianos, organs, pads, analog and FM synths,
basses, plucks. All levelled so they sit in a mix instead of fighting each
other.

FREE AND PRO

Free is a real instrument: chords in any key, genres to play through, a two
track looper, beats, reverb and delay. Pro opens all 42 instruments, every
genre, the four track looper, the full effects rack, unlimited Genre Lab, and
WAV export. Subscribe or pay once for Lifetime.

If you've ever hummed something and wished you could play it, this is for you.

## Version history (last 2 releases)

### 1.1 — 2026-08-23

Genre Lab, rebuilt.

Generated genres now sound like something a player would actually put their
hands on, and every existing preset was rebuilt to match. You can also start a
generation straight from the LAB list instead of backing out to find the button.

Better chords.

Pop, Jazz, Blues and Gospel sound noticeably better across the pads, and a few
wrong notes are gone.

Velvet EP is now free.

The free instrument set is Grand Piano, Chorus Pad and Velvet EP.

The arpeggiator works properly.

Style and Time are separate controls now, and Time drives the strum family too.
Named patterns live in one flat picker. Random is genuinely random. Swing
actually swings. Missing shapes are back, and controls that would do nothing are
visibly disabled instead of quietly ignoring you.

Effects that move evenly.

The FX faders change the sound in even steps from 0 to 100 instead of doing
almost everything in the last third of the throw.

Audio that behaves.

Kord takes priority over other apps now and reclaims the audio session when you
come back, so it no longer returns silent after a call or a switch away.

Drum loop levels.

Boom and Dust are level matched with the rest of the library.

Full screen.

The status bar is hidden, so the instrument gets the whole display.
