### 2/5 — Straight up dumb & useless

*2026-09-07, version 5.4.22*

Hey if you’re going to have us pay a ridiculous amount at least fix the app!!!! This is why we need to lean more on free pdfs.

### 2/5 — Not what I was hoping for

*2026-09-03, version 5.4.22*

No continuous play. It stops at every page turn turn it takes 3 clicks to get it to continue to read it loud (that’s in page mode)

Continues mode is even worse. Why can’t this just act like a normal audio book? I paid $86 dollars for this book to specifically have it read pole an audio book and it doesn’t. Very frustrating

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2026-08-31, version 5.4.22*

Stuck in a login loop on iPhone app.

### 1/5 — Book Downloads

*2026-08-30, version 5.4.22*

I never seem to be able to download my books on the app. I’ve had this problem with multiple books over multiple semesters.

### 1/5 — Limited features

*2026-08-30, version 5.4.22*

I would not have used this app had I known the functional limitations. One- It doesn’t link all the accounts (app/desktop). Each device I have to “start over”. Two- the iPhone app doesn’t fit the pages so you are constantly resizing. Three- If you turn the phone to see more of the text the highlighting feature is a hassle, you cannot see the text on the iPhone at the same time you are highlighting. Four- the app does not remember where you left off. Five- The chapter outline is not linked so you have to scroll through the individual pages each time. Terrible for reading a course required textbook. Save your time and money buy elsewhere.

### 1/5 — No user friendly

*2026-08-29, version 5.4.22*

eTextbook limited printing copies ( 10 max per book). Difficult to navigate among pages. Terrible app

### 1/5 — Awful

*2026-08-29, version 5.4.22*

Clunky and awkward. Can’t scroll pages like in kindle. Have to tap the arrows. Doesn’t seem to save my place. If I accidentally close the app, I lose my place every time. It’s very stressful. I am using this app for a PhD course and I’m afraid I’m going to fall behind because I lose so much time fighting from this app.

### 2/5 — App struggles to save notes

*2026-08-28, version 5.4.22*

I’ll highlight text and attach a note to said highlights. However, whenever I reopen the app all of my notes are gone. The Highlighted text are still lit but then note associated with it are just gone.

### 3/5 — Lags a lot

*2026-08-28, version 5.4.22*

Started using Kortext for school and every time i try and use it I have to repeatedly close it out or shut it down since it won’t stop freezing or lagging

### 1/5 — Useless

*2026-08-28, version 5.4.22*

I had to buy an expensive textbook for a class, tried using the app to get full functions, and it has me going in circles to keep signing in. Can’t do anything on the app, without signing in to utilize the textbook. However, the app won’t sign you in.

### 2/5 — Bad read aloud

*2026-08-28, version 5.4.22*

I wish I could give this app a good rating because I really needed it to work well for school. I'm in online classes, a mother of two, and work full time. I needed a read aloud so I could listen on my 45 minute drive to work, because that's what work a best for me and my busy schedule. I was extremely disappointed when I heard the read aloud. They have a lot of “options” for read alouds, but they are all terrible AI voices. All of them. Not onesiundseven remotely close to a real humans voice. I can barely understand it and when it is reading aloud it make simple enunciation mistakes and punctuation mistakes.

### 1/5 — Kortext

*2026-08-27, version 5.4.22*

This app has a lot of bugs and is not efficient.

### 1/5 — Sign in

*2026-08-27, version 5.4.22*

I can’t even sing in it lets me use my email and password but then when I sign in it doesn’t work yall need to fix you app especially at this critical time with college

### 2/5 — Read Aloud Option

*2026-08-26, version 5.4.22*

Is the Read Aloud option supposed to be a joke? I have to use this site/app for a class and it is helpful to have the “read aloud” option available when life is busy. But if your app just does not have the capability to provide a decent option don’t make it available. There is a “bell” voice if you can call it a voice and the “good news” sounds like it is singing to you. I’m glad you all are having fun playing with the sounds over there but some people need real options to choose from. I only gave it two starts because I can read the material myself. Last semester, I re-purchased my book from another provider because the pages all merged together and the professor asked us to cite our work.

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2026-08-24, version 5.4.22*

This app is Super glitchy, the READ BACK mode is really slow and robotic sounding, you can’t even change the speed you get to listen to it in. I can’t believe this company has a contract with universities. It’s like a bad joke honestly. Do better KORTEXT put the money you’ve received back into the app and truly develop this software, or give us customers a DRM FREE PDF so we don’t have to stay on this platform and suffer the whole semester trying to read our books. Right now it’s false advertisement to claim a READ ALOUD function with variety.

### 1/5 — Sign-in error

*2026-08-24, version 5.4.22*

It never let me sign-in. I’ve tried several times but as soon as I signed in it showed the consent page again and again.

### 1/5 — Awful

*2026-08-24, version 5.4.22*

I’ve had an awful experience. I will ask
next time if my professor will use this because I’ll rent the physical book instead of using this ap. It doesn’t read the page you have to highlight what you want read everytime. McGraw has a way better platform.. I notice now that not all are the same. Get ready to read the whole book.

### 1/5 — The whole app is trash

*2026-08-22, version 5.4.22*

The entire app is trash. You can’t change the size of the font, there’s only set zoom options, all the narrators sound like robots or some weird sound. Did nobody do any QA on this app before it was released? I even tried from the website and it doesn’t work any better. It actually skips reading or just stops for no reason

### 2/5 — Not very good

*2026-08-22, version 5.4.22*

This app is very clunky, especially on an iPad. The highlighting option requires 4 steps and then it doesn’t save. You have to take notes on a separate page from the book’s text. This is really disappointing after paying $130

### 1/5 — sucks

*2026-08-20, version 5.4.22*

Read aloud feature can only read one page? Why doesn’t it read continuously?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — This app sucks

*2026-09-08, version 5.4.22*

I cannot sign in on this app, I have signed in numerous times and it will not sign me in DO NOT GET THIS STUPID BUGGY APP

### 1/5 — Worst app I've ever used

*2026-09-05, version 5.4.22*

For the past hour or so, I have been trying to access the textbooks online that I have already PAID for. The app keeps having me sign up only to bring me back to the exact same screen saying I don't have any textbooks. This is extremely disappointing and frustrating to deal with. On top of this, every single time I return to the home page NOT signed in, I always get the pop outs of the "tour" and having to press the "finish tour" button. I believe the app developers should focus more on how to actually let the users sign in properly rather than designing a tour of the app where we can't even access our textbooks.

### 1/5 — Buns

*2026-09-04, version 5.4.22*

How am I gonna pay damn near 60 for a textbook just for it to not open half the time when using this app on my iPad. It works fine online to access it but then lags on the app version, or doesn’t even open.

### 1/5 — Missing textbook information

*2026-09-04, version 5.4.22*

For some reason the app version of Kortext cannot display chunks of my Genki textbook. The computer version works fine, but I’m getting nothing but blank pages with the iOS version of Kortext. I have deleted and redownloading the textbook and the app as a whole, to no avail.

Avoid this app

### 1/5 — Can’t Even Login.

*2026-09-02, version 5.4.22*

Don’t even bother with this app, you won’t be able to login to your account to even access any of the books. I wanted to try this app because of how bad it feels to read an ebook on a laptop, but looks like I’ll have to stick with that regardless.

### 1/5 — Easier on mobile browser

*2026-09-01, version 5.4.22*

App has fewer features than the mobile browser which is more easy to use. Pen still works there… and you can navigate by page number. Never thought I’d take something simple like c that for granted. Also, on the app, when you are making an “inking” 🐙.. the highlight or writing doesn’t stay on the text? Defeats the purpose to have to go searching for it.

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2026-09-01, version 5.4.22*

The buttons barely work (especially the back button) and it doesn’t let you see the textbooks you downloaded on your computer. I’d use vitalsource or anything else if possible

### 1/5 — Genuinely vibe coded garbage

*2026-09-01, version 5.4.22*

Syncing between the mobile and web app is non existent

### 1/5 — I can't even log into the app

*2026-08-31, version 5.4.22*

I like reading textbooks on my iPad and to see it offline requires the app. I've tried to log in 10+ times and it brings me to a browser within the app and doesn't even log me in. I have no way of accessing my textbook offline now and I already paid for it.

### 1/5 — One of the worst apps for books.

*2026-08-31, version 5.4.22*

Kortext support does not respond, and the “read aloud” option /audio stops every 2 seconds. Wasted like $400 on books in this app just for it to be useless.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

*2026-07-27, version 5.4.22*

### 5/5 — The most efficient revision app!!

*2026-01-30, version 5.2.20*

I have been using Kortext for the last three years of my study and degree at uni; it has yet to fail me. The functions are perfect for a revision session, I can review my books, highlight/make notes, then test myself with flashcards too. Seriously a game changer as an educational app. Will be using until my degree is complete!

### 5/5 — Read Aloud Update Needed

*2026-01-26, version 5.2.20*

Not a bad app. Read aloud can definitely use a HUGE upgrade.

### 5/5 — Really useful for students!

*2026-01-19, version 5.2.20*

As a student, this app makes studying so much easier. Having all my textbooks in one place with highlighting and notes is really helpful, especially during revision. Definitely recommend it!

### 5/5 — MUST-Use for University Students!

*2026-01-10, version 5.2.15*

I’m currently in my final year of university and have been using Kortext for some time now. I personally like the mobile app as it’s easily accessible and navigation is pretty straightforward (as seen from the clean interface). It aids in my learning with tools like highlighting (for key parts to look back on), Flashcards/Q&A (to test my knowledge) as well as referencing/citation tool (to reference in Harvard style and straight from the source instantly). Kortext has let me do my reading and assignment work more efficiently, while helping me stay productive.

I absolutely recommend using the Kortext App as it makes reading less daunting because you can read books on the go with your phone. Also your university will allow you to have free access to the incredible features on it!

### 5/5 — Options de couleurs

*2025-09-22, version 5.0.18*

Il serait bien d’avoir des options de couleurs de fond - noir, ou beige pour une meilleure lecture - plus douce pour certains.
