Kotoba Puzzle is a simple yet deep word game: guess a 4- or 5-character Japanese hiragana word within 6 tries. The puzzle itself works offline — no account, no sign-up. A connection is used only to load ads. Perfect for a quick brain workout anywhere. HOW IT WORKS Type any hiragana word of the right length and submit. Each tile is then colored: - Green: right letter, right position - Yellow: the letter is in the word, but in a different spot - Gray: the letter is not in the word Use these three colors to narrow down the answer within six tries. WORD OF THE DAY A new word is served every day, derived from the date itself — so players all over the world face the very same puzzle, with no server needed. One daily word each for 4- and 5-character modes. Come back tomorrow for a fresh one. ENDLESS PRACTICE Want more? Practice mode serves unlimited puzzles so you can keep playing as long as you like. SHARE AS COLOR TILES Copy your result as a spoiler-free pattern of colored tiles and show friends how few tries you needed — without revealing the answer. SMART KANA KEYBOARD A fifty-sounds hiragana keyboard plus dakuten (゛), handakuten (゜) and small-kana (小) conversion keys. Type が, ぱ, っ or ゃ by converting the last character with a single tap. Discovered letters are reflected in the keyboard colors. TRACK YOUR STATS Play counts, win rate, daily streaks and a guess distribution chart — all stored only on your device. You can buy it in Settings, and the Restore button is on the same screen. - Fixed small issues around ads. ### 1.3 — 2026-07-31 The app can now let you know inside the app when a new version is available on the App Store. Choosing "Later" hides it for a week. We also corrected the store description to match how the app actually works. The puzzle still runs offline, but a connection is used to load ads. The previous text said "no network access", which was not accurate. We are sorry about that. Puzzles, letter checking and the keyboard all behave exactly as before. ### 1.2 — 2026-07-30 We switched to a different ad provider, so ads are less likely to stutter while you are working on a puzzle. They are kept modest (a bottom banner plus one full-screen ad every few clears) and designed not to interrupt your play. - For privacy, the app now shows an App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt on first launch, and a consent form in applicable regions.
