### 4/5 — Unique

*2017-11-29, version 1.6.2*

It's a game changer in many ways. Musical, accessible, usable even on a phone form factor, plays well with other apps and even hardware. The one missing item standing in the way of five glorious stars is a way to share surfaces *as files* to collaborators. Network feature is nice but global public sharing shouldn't be the only way to share or archive a project.

**Developer response:** Hi thanks for your feedback. You can share projects privately on the network, just turn toggle the visibility when you upload.

### 5/5 — Breakthrough - that keeps breaking through

*2017-07-25, version 1.6.0*

Best $ I've spent on a music app since 2010. And the brothers listen to the people and relentlessly update. The latest update added so much that it's as if an app was added to the app...

### 5/5 — Some of the best iOS software

*2017-06-30, version 1.5.0*

And getting better all the time!! Period. Take the time to learn it. It's worth it. And , yes, this is UNDERPRICED! It is a $10 app, at least. Charge IAP for MIDI functionality, other new functions, and create loops and sample packs as IAPs to create revenue.

This is a brilliant app and don't feel bad about getting paid for it.

### 5/5 — Buy it

*2017-06-18, version 1.5.0*

If you enjoy creating music on your iDevice, KRFT is a must have. There are a lot of apps that replicate the traditional DAW experience or emulate hardware synthesizers, but apps few offer a new way to interact with music that is only possible on the iOS platform. KRFT is one of those apps that will have you thinking about composition in a whole new way. This is what iOS music making is all about and why IMO it's the future of music production.

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2017-06-12, version 1.5.0*

If you've read the other reviews then you know how I feel about this app. It's simply great and a shining gem of what can be done on a iPad. If you're wondering if you should buy this, then you probably should.

### 5/5 — MIDI Add your Samples and more

*2017-06-08, version 1.5.0*

The update with MIDI support is awesome as you can now combine the synths and samples in KRFT with other apps. The morph cell is very useful for automating controls, for example, you can control synth parameters or controls in other apps and have them all be in sync with the tempo.

Audiobus 3 MIDI support is very useful as you can modify the output of KRFT with MIDI effects apps to effectively expand what you do with a playing surface in KRFT.

Being able to add labels including emoji icons to the controls of your surface along with the color coded channel approach allows you to create setups which make sense. You can easily copy/paste control cells or an entire surface to modify them which makes creating new surfaces much more straightforward.

The developer has been very active and has added significant features to the app since its release. You can now add your own samples, label your controls, there is Link, IAA support, and more.

Being able to use morph cells to control the playback of various synth, drum, and sample cells adds another dimension to playing the app.

What's in place in the app works well. You can create your own surfaces and all of the controls work as expected. You can easily export your recordings to other apps using open in. You can export your surface to another device or share with others as long as the surface doesn't include imported sounds. Once a surface is loaded, you can replace factory sample sounds with imported sounds.

The developer updated to support iPad too so landscape orientation works great.

### 5/5 — Ok, Folks... now we're going PRO! :)

*2017-06-08, version 1.5.0*

UPDATE2: This KRFT gem is the gift that just keeps on giving. I got on board early and loved it from launch, but it just keeps getting better and better. Now with a very fine implementation of midi out, this brilliantly designed Modular Instrument and custom controller for iOS apps and/or external hardware, as well as external DAWS... is clearly a unique beast that has landed squarely in professional music production territory.

Superb techical support as well!

UPDATE: It's astonishing how much this already brilliant app has evolved in such a short period of time. Taking it from very fun, intuitive audio composition tool, to legitimate professional software, while retaining core ease of use.

This app has struck such an incredible balance between sound quality, intuitive user interface, the latest tech, and ease of use.

The developers of this app are very active and obviously committed to taking this app to brand new territory.

I also think KRFT's piano roll is the best and most pleasurable to use of all the iOS sound apps I have. Bravo, and highly recommended!!!

### 5/5 — Absolutely fantastic and so liberating.

*2017-06-08, version 1.5.0*

I wrote a long gushing review for the previous version, which is gone?? Oh well, probably no on would have read it all anyway!

Suffice to say that I have bought just about every major music making app there is, and KRFT is definitely in the top 5 or 10. I completely love it! The only thing that has been limiting it from becoming my number one compositional and performance tool has been my reluctance to limit myself to the (admittedly good) internal instruments.

Now they've added Midi-out and Audiobus 3 support and the doors are flung wide open! I know already I'm going to be spending more time with KRFT for composing than any other tool. It's that good.

Top notch app and wonderful, responsive developers! :)

### 4/5 — Inspirational

*2017-06-03, version 1.4.0*

Very nice interface with some interesting features that inspire. Visually impressive and ability to build your own surface makes this something you will want to enjoy while creating your own beats and loops. Although given it's currently untapped potential, you will probably find yourself wishing it did more.

### 5/5 — Fun and surprisingly powerful

*2017-05-19, version 1.4.0*

This app is super-fun. Also, my son has become addicted to it, creating lots of cool tunes and beats.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Abandonware: Going to contact Apple for a refund

*2022-07-08, version 1.6.2*

Server is down. Website is down. Forum is down.

### 1/5 — doesn’t work

*2020-05-30, version 1.6.2*

don’t even bother. i paid for this app and it was not functional, to make matters worse, the developer is unreachable, no way to email or contact anyone....basically i just flushed my money down the toilet...wanted to give it no stars but wouldn’t allow me

### 1/5 — This app has become complete garbage

*2020-05-08, version 1.6.2*

This once worked but now has such horrible latency that it is unusable for any serious music maker. DO NOT PURCHASE. They haven’t updated it in over two years.

### 1/5 — ABANDONWEAR

*2020-01-30, version 1.6.2*

Don’t waste your money like I did, abandoned app. Has a server component that’s no longer live. Check last updated time.

### 1/5 — No support for iPhone X

*2019-06-04, version 1.6.2*

Unfortunately you cannot use the entire real estate on your iPhone X be prepared for black bars on top and bottom unfortunately.

### 2/5 — Is this now abandonware?

*2020-03-31, version 1.6.2*

This is a pretty cool app for composing and messing around with ideas. However you are no longer able to connect to the server to download other sets, you can’t backup your own, and you can’t transfer your sets to another device. I think this app has been abandoned by the developer. If you’re ok with doing all of your own sets and saving to just that device it’s a 5 star app. If you’re wanting the above that’s no longer in the cards apparently. That’s a shame.

### 2/5 — Error: Cannot reach KRFT server

*2019-12-03, version 1.6.2*

Had the app for a while. Upgraded to the newest iPhone only to not be able to login and recover my information due to this error. Solid app but what do I do now??

### 2/5 — Great for creativity when it works.

*2019-03-21, version 1.6.2*

It’s too bad. This is a 5-star app when it works, but when I can’t open up my own song — or even open a brand new one — because of network problems, all the connected sharing stuff doesn’t really seem like a benefit.

**Developer response:** Hey. Sorry you're having issues. The network seems to be working fine on my device, so I'm not sure what network issues you're having. Also they shouldn't effect creating or opening local files. I suggest privately sharing all your surfaces so they're backed up and then re-installing KRFT. If you need more support please email me alex@studioamplify.com

### 3/5 — Out of Business?

*2020-02-01, version 1.6.2*

404 error when going to support site, also - cannot connect to server.

### 4/5 — I love this app but there are some problems

*2018-02-03, version 1.6.2*

I absolutely love this app and use it to make music all the time, however, when ever I put the quantization on anything less than 1/38 the keys stick and continue making their sound. This can be very annoying when trying to make a song, if you were to fix this problem I would probably give five stars. One more thing I want is for you to add an actual piano or keyboard screen. The pads work okay but I think an actual piano would allow people to create much better music. Thank you.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Still my favorite!

*2021-12-24, version 1.6.2*

Each song is its own instrument that you create and perform on to bring your song to life. And with MIDI out, you can add your own hardware or software synths to the performance.

Truly amazing and inspiring. My songwriting has reached new levels with KRFT.

If I could change it, I would add:

* MIDI in so I could use a keyboard to play the KRFT synths and record sequences
* the ability to send CCs via the MIDI out sequencer and the option to interpolate CC values between steps

Those are the only things keeping it from being the heart of everything I do. But even without those options, it’s still my favorite by far. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Blown away!

*2020-10-10, version 1.6.2*

Amazed that I just found this app for the very first time. This thing rocks! So well though out and it even sounds good!

Devs, please keep this alive, this is such an impressive tool on iOS.

### 5/5 — Essential iOS production tool

*2018-10-29, version 1.6.2*

I don’t even use the included sound engine that much and this is still one of my top three iOS music production apps. Krft is my main sequencer/arranger on the iPad. I’ve had sync issues with AUM but have found that changing sample rate to 48k in AUM causes perfect long term sync. I hope a fix is possible to improve 441k sample rate sync but until then it’s a minor issue I can work with.
The two main reasons krft shines over other midi sequencers for me:
The piano roll/step sequencer layout is just perfect. It’s not fiddly, there aren’t excessive menus and options, and most importantly there’s no zooming in and out and trying to input notes into tiny squares. It’s better than any other iOS sequencer in this regard.
Second is the key pads for playing notes. They’re so elegantly and simply laid out. I swear iOS devs love making their apps ugly and unnecessarily unique. This is exactly how they should be laid out.
My only complaint is that if left unused it often freezes in the background and needs to be restarted. And midi note velocity going to 127 would be nice as well.
Krft devs, please don’t abandon this app, it along with AUM is the center of my iOS production setup. You’ve created something great.

### 5/5 — Stunning.

*2018-08-25, version 1.6.2*

I own every major music making app for the iPhone, and this easily tops them all. It’s easy and fun to use and is a great sketch pad OR even a great tool for creating complete pieces!

### 5/5 — Great sequencer

*2018-07-22, version 1.6.2*

I was initially put off by the interface and it took me a good year to look at the more in depth reviews (Jakob Haq). I'm sorry I took so long. This is the best iOS sequencer I've used. For me, it's a brilliant melding of a performance environment and "arrangement environment" using pattern sequencing. I've used a bunch of sequencers and DAWs, going back to DOS. Most recently I've used an Electribe 2, but KRFT will take its place. It's really quick and immediate, but also gives you the ability to manipulate note data on the fly. By the way, I use this on an iPhone 6 and it will easily control multiple MIDI channels of outboard hardware. I had a multitrack sequence driving my Yamaha A4000 through a Novation Remote 49SL controller. Now to upgrade to an iPad.

### 5/5 — Absolutely amazing! Please add a way to directly upload recording to Soundcloud. Thank you!

*2018-04-14, version 1.6.2*

👍👍👍

### 5/5 — great app for music creation!

*2018-04-13, version 1.6.2*

I have tried a lot of ipad music apps and this one is hands down the coolest and most intuitive one to use live.

### 5/5 — You can make a thing!

*2018-02-18, version 1.6.2*

The app allows you to essentially build your own thing, but this has a lot more to offer! If you want more than three colors of shapes, add or change channels. I just wish we could have a toggle mode and no sync for the white squares so I could instantly play chords. And it could use a bigger surface area. For $5, you have hours of creating an instrument interface, beat machine, or more! Try it out!

### 5/5 — Lit!!!

*2017-09-05, version 1.6.0*

Its pretty lit if your creative.

### 5/5 — Finally

*2017-07-29, version 1.6.0*

It's 2017 and somebody finally comes up with a playable iPad/iPhone music surface thingy that doesn't require imported samples, midi, or purchased sound packs! That, and it's so versatile too. Easy to get carried away on the included tidbits alone. I keep finding myself playing the same "surface" in a quintillion different ways.
In the future:
Would like to see more FX and synth parameters. More flexibility all around is always welcome. Looking foreword for more juicy updates.
