It’s so informative & quick & easy to use. We normally carry so many different identification & map books. The photos are all fantastic & it makes identifying birds so much as easier as it only shows birds in KNP. I 100% recommend Kruger explore! ### 5/5 — We couldn’t have done Kruger without it *2022-09-15* This was our first trip to Kruger NP and I couldn’t imagine our trip without this app. Highly, highly recommend. It’s worth the $12 for the high resolution and easy to use maps section alone! We loved the sightings tracker and made a routine of logging our daily sightings over dinner each night. The Kruger Park must be the best place to see all the fascinating African animals. This app provides all the information one needs to make this an unforgettable tour. High res photos of the animals enhances the experience and learning. Loved the Afrikaans bird names- hope you are planning to add the Zulu name too at some future date. Fairly priced considering the work and development for this premium quality app. Will never have to buy a paper map of the park again. Yay for me and yay for the environment. Sightings record a lovely add-on. Constructive criticism for updates as I believe you will continue to improve the app. Would love to have bird sounds, photos of the juvenile birds and if we could have the option t date sightings. So you can have a record of sightings for a particular KNP trip. Very happy with my purchase. **Developer response:** Hi Candoit SA, thank you so much for such a superb review! It is such an easy to use and extremely informative app. From finding the best routes to identifying the smallest bird you have it all right in the palm of your hand! We have found out so many interesting things - like your Vagrant Bird information. At night, around the braii, we discuss our days sightings, and inevitably the Kruger Explorer App comes out to clarify or inform. For me, it also comes in so handy when I’m sadly not in Kruger. I look up sighting locations, read up on mammals and birds, read distance charts and gate times to help plan our next trip, and many other ways. Except here you pay $12 + for paragraph upon paragraph upon paragraph. An app that needs a paragraph of “how to use” for every landing page is not a user friendly app. I still don’t know where to find the elephant spots or lion spots or the best times. Which time of year which animal migrates to. I guess I have to read this novel of an app first. Something I could have continued to do on Google for free. Don’t recommend. Sorry to hear you haven't enjoyed the app but I'm afraid much of your feedback is not fair or accurate - Kruger National Park is the size of a small country (and larger than several US States) so it is natural that a guide to the park that is unprecedented in its scope contains lots of information along with guidance on how to get the most out of it. Apple themselves kindly featured us as 'App of the Day' commenting on how user-friendly and informative the app is. Google categorically does not give anyone access to our years of first-hand experience in the park that we share in this app. Regarding the best lion spots, you can just search for 'Lion' and scroll down to 'Where to find them' in a couple of seconds and find a bullet point list alongside more detailed commentary. While we do not expect the app or even Kruger to be for everyone, this is a serious guide with information about all 3,500km of road, every waterhole and region of the park, every mammal and bird (including migration patterns) ever recorded in the park with thousands of stunning photographic images and bird audio files, and lots of other detail that helps people plan a trip that will deliver memories that last for a lifetime. We do hope you are able to find some enjoyment in the app and your Kruger experience. Dont waste your money on this! ### 2/5 — Great When It Works *2024-06-13* While it worked, this app was great - it was useful for route guidance, maps, animal info, and tracking sightings; however, it started crashing right after opening the app halfway through my trip and was unusable. I tried restarting my phone, force quitting the app, etc, but nothing worked. There also was not enough cell service or wifi in the middle of the park to try deleting and reinstalling the app, so overall I can’t recommend it or say it’s worth the money. ### 3/5 — OK *2019-12-29* Ganz nett , wäre schön wenn es verschiedene Sprachen zu Auswahl gäbe. Wondering if road closures in Kruger are noted anywhere in the app? ### 4/5 — Great App, Lot’s of potential, don’t blindly follow routes *2022-03-26* Great app, which improved our self drive safari experience a lot! We stayed in three different camps and did four days of driving in the park. We are first time visitors. Pros: - sighting logging is lots of fun - animal fact cheats are great - routes and descriptions are great App Improvements: - home button would be nice, too much clicking “back” - seasonal information would be great. We made the experience that not all routes are the same during summer and winter season. Adjust routes or select month of travel? - sort animals by most common, park region would be great - sighting logging was lots of fun, maybe introduce a scoreboard based on rarity - maybe also introduce a geographic sight logging based on GPS data User recommendations: - don’t blindly follow the route described.m, but include the sighting boards in your decision for the roads. The combination of both worked the best for us. Sometimes we followed the recommended route but the river it followed along was currently dry because of the season and therefore spotting a were minimal. All in all, we enjoyed the app a lot and think in its current state it is already worth its money and we recommend everyone to use it! **Developer response:** Hi Jucca, many thanks for the very detailed review. Just on a couple of your items, we have a new update coming over the next couple of months that will add a Home button like you suggest - this wasn't needed when we first launched but the app has grown so much since then that it is definitely a good idea now! :-) Sorting species by regions within the park wouldn't work very well as most mammals and birds can be found throughout the park, with only some birding rarities and one mammal limited to the far north. Each profile references hotspots for sightings or any localised presence so you can quickly exclude species when trying to ID birds, while the Routes are extremely detailed in explaining what is potentially more common along any single road. Regarding the Routes, you've used them exactly as we suggest in the 'How to Use the Routes section' page. Sightings and even localised weather changes minute to minute in the park, so users should adapt routes to take into account of local information from other visitors they have spoken with or section rangers they might meet, because it is not possible for us to have live info on every part of Kruger (which is the size of Israel) every single day. We constantly update the routes with more permanent changes. Also, every river mentioned in the Routes states whether it is seasonal or perennial, which should also help you. I found this app really useful for navigating the loop roads (I downloaded the live location map before we left). The loop roads can be quite confusing when using the park maps, but this app made it so easy. I also loved how it gave more detailed descriptions of the camps and accommodation- much more detail than on the San Parks website. Recently we had some trouble with the app, reached out and got a quick response. Our issue had nothing to do with the app, instead it was a technology issue. The dedicated team at Kruger Explorer understood our problem and walked us through the solution even though it had nothing to do with them or their product. If you are thinking of a visit to South Africa you could not do better than this informative and easy to navigate app. ### 5/5 — Virtual Safari Guide! *2023-01-11* Whether it’s your first safari or you’re returning to Kruger National Park for another visit, the Kruger Explorer app will take a lot of the guesswork out of planning your safari and function as your virtual guide throughout your adventure! The content is superb and easy to navigate. I appreciate the bottom-up approach to first understanding the land and how a particular habitat supports wildlife. The content is what one would expect from a professional wildlife guide including tons of fun facts and information on which routes in Kruger will improve the likelihood of viewing a given species. I’ve enjoyed referencing the animal profiles to learn more about the species I photographed during my first visit to Kruger in May 2019 and found the app invaluable in planning a 39-day, self-guided safari in October 2019.
