They changed things again. They created their own menu but now I have to make my own layout to get what I used to get by default, or by checking a box. The earthquake layer now only has huge icons, making even tiny quakes (like 1.0 or smaller) look like they are really big. Seriously, put it back to the way things were. The only reason I even use this app is because they have the best radar. Otherwise, I would have scrapped it a long time ago. 2ND UPDATE: I absolutely hate how this app has no way to send feedback. They changed things again. They added an “improved” map menu but I really don’t like it. The play bar is too big and takes up way too much space, especially on my phone. But the worst thing is how it opens up with the view on Massachusetts. Why?? Then it rapidly shifts over to where I am located in Utah. Seriously, why? There is no logical reason for it to do this. I wish I had the option to send feedback. Leaving a review here is ok but I don’t know if the developers even read this. UPDATE: Zooming (very) quickly from the national view to the local view is not any better. It actually kinda makes me dizzy. Why can’t you put it back the way it was? Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a good way to submit feedback. I have used this app for many years, it’s the one I go to first when I want to know about local weather. However… this latest issue with the map ALWAYS opening up to the whole United States is more than a little annoying. When I open the app, Every. Single. Time. I have to go to the pull-down menu and reset the view to my location. Please fix this! It’s driving me nuts. ### 2/5 — The new map experience is bad *2026-03-12, version 6.1.301* I just updated the KSL Weather app, and the new map experience has one huge flaw. There doesn’t seem to be a way to minimize or just close all the new customization buttons. The play feature for seeing past weather and the future forecast is bigger than the old one. The result is that the bottom of the map is now very cluttered with a bigger play strip and all those customization buttons, especially if you don’t expand the map. Some of us still prefer a small phone, and there is way too much clutter now for a small phone screen. Even on a larger screen, there would still be too much clutter. The map is now, effectively, smaller than before because you can see around all those buttons at the bottom. To the developers: Those new customization buttons detract from the map experience rather than enhancing it. You need to make it possible to get all those buttons out of the way. Why not return to a less-obtrusive small button that brings up all the new options but that minimizes when we’re not actively customizing? Oh, and by the way, if there is a way to minimize customization options, you need to make it obvious or put instructions in the user guide because I can’t find it. ### 3/5 — Ad annoyance *2026-01-07, version 6.1.301* Why do you force us to see whipple for 5 seconds every time the ap is opened, even if you move away for 5 sec, whipple again!!!. Is the top bar ad not enough? I’ve checked my version, it is up to date. ### 2/5 — Rarely Works *2025-11-16, version 5.17.710* I try to watch the weather each night and when load the video, about 80% of the time the video freezes a minute into the video and won’t play the rest. They have no way of contacting them to let them know, so this is the only thing I could think to do. If it all worked, all the time, I’d give them a higher rating. ### 1/5 — So unreliable! *2025-09-07, version 5.17.710* I don’t know what happened, perhaps AI is involved, but the reliability of the weather is so bad. It’s very unreliable and what’s funny is that after the fact, meaning after actual weather has happened for the day, that days forecast then reflects what weather happens that day even though what it forecasted initially was so off. It’s like it tries to “save face” from its known unreliability. Don’t count on this at all! ### 1/5 — Please fix the freezing of the frames in the videos *2025-06-29, version 5.17.601* Almost every night we try to watch the weather forecast on the app, but the video freezes and never shows the rest of the forecast. Starting again does not work and trying another device does not work. Please fix this bug. ### 1/5 — Serious Privacy Issues *2025-01-04, version 5.17.509* So why a weather app needs to collect User Content, Contact Info, and such is beyond me. I do not recommend this app. ### 1/5 — You will have better luck with the default Apple weather app *2024-12-28, version 5.17.509* With the last major update to the KSL Weather app, it gave options for 6 and 24 hour forecast through the radar map. These maps show completely different weather patterns for the same time stamp. KSL, and Whipple Plumbing (app sponsor), this is a reputational hit. Fix it please. I wrote the first part of this review months ago. Nothing has improved. In fact, the radar maps are even worse than they were before. This has gone from being my go-to weather app, to no longer being an app on my phone. ### 3/5 — Widget needed *2024-08-28, version 5.15.407* Please add widget for Apple ### 1/5 — Why????? *2024-07-24, version 5.15.407* Why in the day to day view does it auto open todays date stuff? I don’t go to the 10 page to have it auto open it days details. If I want that I should have to click on it. It’s a stupid feature. If people ant it, it should be a setting. Not mandatory. ### 1/5 — Incredibly inaccurate *2024-07-02, version 5.15.407* I’m currently sitting on the water in 20-30mph winds. The forecast was light clouds and 5-10 for the wind. It still shows 8mph as the current wind and sunny as the forecast. I have gotten stuck too many times because this app is so far off on its forecasts. Do not use it to plan anything ever. ### 2/5 — Too slow to load *2024-04-07, version 5.13.801* I have used this app from about the time it was originally released (10 years ago?). It’s always been good and accurate data that I use many times every day. Lately, however, it has gotten to be just a giant KSL money grab from “Sponsored by” companies like Whipple Plumbing and RC Willey. If you open the app to look at something and then minimize it for a moment to answer a call or look at another app, it makes you wait for the long, annoying sponsor to show up on the startup page all over again. It’s like I had closed the app and restarted it. It lasts for about 5 seconds before useful information starts to load, but that is an eternity in the age of instant data. I just finally moved it off my Home Screen and buried it in a “References” folder on my third screen over. You know the spot. The one with cobwebs and the MySpace and Sears app. I’m just going to use Apple Weather for now and try other apps until I find one that doesn’t waste my time. I feel really bad for the hard working business owners and their employees that are spending a large amount of their advertising budget on this. Right now I have just been repeatedly seeing poor Whipple Plumbing while I’m mad for waiting to open an app that is already open. Sorry Whipple (and KSl). I’m associating your name with waiting in standstill traffic while there are quicker routes to take. ### 2/5 — Where did local section go. *2024-02-24, version 5.13.801* Good app. However, after last update the local section which I always used disappeared. What???? Bring it back please. ### 2/5 — I don’t think the forecast is EVER correct *2024-02-20, version 5.13.801* I usually only look 24 hours out on the forecast, and it’s generally been completely inaccurate. Forecasting rain when it’s snow, forecasting snow when there ends up being none, forecasting sunny and it’s rainy. I know weather forecasting isn’t an exact science, but this is pretty silly. ### 1/5 — Was my go to- no reliable radar now *2023-09-06, version 5.10.500* Had this app for at least 10 years. Now I watch local news and compare to my app and lately I intermittently don’t get any clouds or rain on my map even when I’m in clouds and rain. What happened? Can’t trust for travel planning anymore. Update: Now posting error message on GPS location regularly. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — What happened? - part II *2026-06-23, version 6.1.603* Just like the last poster stated, radar data quits working about one day after installing the app. If I delete the app and reinstall, it works for a bit longer. Then no radar data again. It doesn’t do this with the Android version. Too bad, it used to be a great app. One to the next weather app…. ### 1/5 — What has happened?! *2026-06-19, version 6.1.603* I have had KSL Weather for many, many years and have loved it and recommended it to others. However, in the last few weeks, the apparent changes made to the app have made it impossible to trust. I have deleted and then reloaded the app, and still the weather patterns, rain, clouds,etc are not visible at all, anywhere. After reloading, they showed up momentarily and then persisted in the same exact pattern into the next day when there was absolutely no clouds and no weather events. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s having this experience. Are the app developers aware of this? ### 1/5 — NO REAL-TIME RADAR! *2026-06-02, version 6.1.603* The latest update, 6.1.603, takes some major steps backwards. The “improved” menus are useful when you get used to them, but you may have to view different things on different custom saved maps. For instance Radar, Wind, Temps, Storm tracks, earthquakes, etc. will not all show on the same map, nor are they as easily toggled on/off. But the BIGGEST FAULT is that there is NO REAL-TIME RADAR. With the new configuration you must choose PAST or FUTURE, and the past radar ends 5min before the current time, while the future radar begins 5min in the future. There is therefore a 10min gap for the real-time radar which makes the KSL Weather app pretty useless for following weather. This is a MAJOR FLAW that earns 1 star for use as a weather app. ### 1/5 — Update is horrible. *2026-02-17, version 6.1.301* The new app design doesn’t hold the chosen location like the old app. Regardless of location settings always on, the location always starts from the east coast and then relocated to the pinned location every time the app is opened. The old design was much better. This app is now cumbersome and flawed to the point it’s not useful. Please fix this. ### 1/5 — 👎🏼 *2026-02-06, version 6.1.301* This has been my go-to weather app for YEARS, and now with the new update, I’m going to just delete it. Hate the ‘new’ customization. I can’t have my features all in one place like I used to. The “improved” menu is less user-friendly and causes the map area to be smaller. Additionally, the landscape view is useless. Update from 2 years ago. This app has not gotten any better. Video playback continues to be horrible. Videos often have issues by the ads they try to put on.. about 80% into videos it stops playing . I would like to suggest changing something back. When opening the weekly forecast, just show the week and do not open the current days forecast. We can see the details on another page. KSL has been the most accurate for local weather and I was hoping to toss my default weather widget in exchange for a KSL one. Unfortunately, they haven’t made a widget yet but I hope they’ll make one soon. Otherwise, I might just offload it and continue to use the internet browser to pull it up. Whatever this latest update is - defaulting to a National view of the radar when I have it set to “home” is infuriating. Make. It. Stop.
